What happened to your #1 offense? - Goff and that kid... you know Gurley was going to be the next Eric Dickerson. How many sacks did Suh and the DTackle who is Defensive Player of the Year get? Zero? Good game, guys. And I was rooting for you, too. Didn't want the Patriots to win again, but noooo, you let us down. Sad.

That game was a solid argument for turning each round of the playoffs into best of 3.

I was just going to say that this game was a result of the two best teams NOT advancing and being forced to settle for the 2nd best in each conference, but even that is being far too generous. I've watched all 53 SB's, and a fair number of pre-SB league championship games, and that game was BY FAR the worst performance I've ever witnessed.

This is a nightmare scenario for the league. Both lead-up games, more so in the NFC, was marred by horrid officiating, they advance one team, the Rams, with one of the lamest fan bases in the country and another that nearly everyone is more tired of seeing than a rerun of "The Beverly Hillbillies", the "bad guy", ie Brady, ended up winning, the popularity of the game itself has peaked, and now both teams turn in a performance that was less exciting than a preseason game.

Considering the bad press involved in the Kapernick controversy, the ugly divorce in Oakland, the bad taste left in fans in St. Louis and San Diego, the failure of their 2nd largest market to embrace two very good teams, and now the events of the past two weeks, this has to be the worst season for the league in quite some time.

Edit: I just saw the best one so far: The two teams played like the winner was going to the White House. That will be the next migraine for the league.

"I'm petty, but I’m hoping for the worst-played SB in history. The ideal outcome is one where, years from now, people will say that whichever team one was the least deserving winner since the XL debacle that will forever be marked with an asterisk."

I got my wish! The Hawks' SB hangover lasted two years, and they actually played well. I'm super excited to see this Rams team struggle through next season.

I seriously haven't felt this good the day after a SB since the Hawks' win.

We didn't watch the halftime show as the entertainers were complete unknowns to any of us and that we had nothing at all in common with, but I'm hearing lots of people say that it was just as horrible as the game, not to mention the fact that a number of entertainers stated that out of protest over the Kaepernick thing, would refuse an invitation to perform.

It will be a day or two before the TV ratings are out, but I'm betting that this SB, despite featuring two large market teams, will register as the least watched SB in this decades.

You would like to think so but we were too injured to make it to this game and if we had, we wouldn't have faired very well IMO. (and most of you know I never predict a loss before the game is played). Playoffs are largely about who is healthiest.

Any of this year's playoff teams, indeed several that missed the playoffs, could have won that game had they gone up against the effort those two teams put out. Although he was under more duress than Brady was, Goff wasn't subjected to all that much pressure, wasn't managing the pocket, and wasn't finding open receivers. He was really apprehensive, didn't take very many shots to allow his receivers a chance to make a play. If I were a Rams fan, Goff's play would have been the biggest disappointment for me.

There's lots of discussion as to why Gurley wasn't utilized more. The conventional wisdom is that his knee is worse than what the Rams were letting on, but it was the Super Bowl, for crying out loud, and might be his only one in his career and the Rams might not get back to another one. I don't understand why they didn't pull out all the stops. And the odd thing is that Gurley doesn't seem all that bothered by his non participation, seems indifferent to the situation.

Ironic that a secondary receiver won the MVP instead of a QB, RB, #1 receiver, or pass rushing DE, but he was the only logical choice available.

Worst SB in history, including the 40+ point blowouts the Bills gave up in the 90’s. Can’t wait for the Rams to hit salary cap hell, it’s coming. They will have 40% or more of the cap tied up in 2 players. This is gonna be fun in the coming years. Hawk s reloading and the lambs will be dumping talent off the roster to pay the 2 superstars that took a dump on the bid stage. Gotta love it. Looks like a bad case of premature ejaculation, something I’m sure your familiar with.

CBS announced 100.7 million "total"viewers and it includes just over 2 million 'on-line' all platforms of internet paid legal content providers, so the actual TV audience was just under 100 million.

I doubt many people watching, most of which 'planned' for the Super Bowl as an 'event', including going to or having parties, buying food/spirits, etc would leave because it's a bad game, nor are the primary TV's channels changed. My take is LA just isn't a popular choice, so there wasn't a ratings 'bounce' in LA the way it would be in Seattle if the Seahawks make it (#1 rated all time SB viewership) and New England is now boring, so a lot of people didn't watch it. Did something else. I lost some of the wives after 1/2 time sucked. We watched it to the end.

In the stadium, New England had the same advantage in the audience that we did against Denver. You could hear it on our soundsystem how many more fans traveled down from New England vs the laid backers from LA.

I had a similar experience. I, too, normally enjoy a game dominated by defense, but the two D's surrendered too much yardage to be considered a shut down, terrorizing type of D like we fielded in XXVIII. There wasn't sustained pass pressure that affected the offenses. Goff was sacked 4 times, but most of those were coverage type sacks much of which was created by his own indecision, like the one that took the Rams out of a makeable FG position. Brady was sacked just once, and for the most part, had sufficient time. DPOY Aaron Donald was for the most part a non factor, not registering any sacks or TOL's.

Even though there were situations where a fake punt might be in order, neither team attempted one. No trick plays like we saw in last year's SB. It seemed like both teams were playing not to lose. It can be argued that both QB's played their worst games of the season as Brady's QBR was 25.1, Goff's 13.4. Todd Gurley's under utilization continues to be a mystery.

The good news is that the Rams look very much like a one year wonder, and the fact that we went toe-to-toe with them when they were playing at their peak bodes well us for 2019.

The sentiment has already been stated on this board, but Wingo is seriously disregarding that this is typically an event for a lot of people. I know where I was the game was essentially back ground noise. We were busy eating and drinking well and conversing while keep an ear out for anything exciting in the game. Never really happened. I thought the game was largely poorly called by the coaches and full of underwhelming performances save Edelman. Sorry Wingo, you have some misplaced anger on this one.

It seems it was like it was about 10 years ago when a lot of the SB's were boring.
This one was a real let down, but I have to admit I didn't watch a lot of it, rather I popped in to see what had happened
then skipped back to another channel after watching the commercials.

Speaking for myself, it was because it didn't come across so much as a good defensive game as it did two inept offenses.

I've never seen so many poorly thrown balls in a Superbowl as I did Sunday. I even remarked about it to my buddies.

Did Wingo think it was announced at halftime the game was going to be a dud (well, beyond Maroon 5 mailing it in) so everyone who was going to be disappointed should have turned it off then?

The reason SB's that you are referring to (and you're getting old, it was more like 20 years ago) were considered boring was because most were essentially over by halftime. This one was a one score game for all but the last minute yet it was still boring.

As far as play calling being the issue with the offensive productivity, it's impossible to tell. IMO neither QB, more so Goff than Brady, were taking any chances by throwing 50/50 passes and giving their guy a chance to make a play, and you can't blame the OC for that. Their reluctance and indecision could be due to the fact that the game was close and as such they were aware that close games are frequently decided by a critical turnover, and no one wants to be the butthead that lost the Super Bowl for their team.

The other factor no one has talked about is that we've been treated to a lot of high scoring games, and these two teams were ranked 2nd and 4th in the league in scoring. The game was like waiting for a 4th of July celebration to start that ended up getting canceled.

Screw Wingo (and usually I kinda like him), what the hell right does he have get so mad at people for not having the same opinion he has? The game sucked. Yes there were some nice defensive plays and some decent hits but there was a lot of poor blocking, poor passing and poor decision making (on both sides, but more so from the Rams.

There was no drama, no ebb and flown, no excitement. The game was a dud no matter what Wingo says. I'm not going to 'shut up' cause he pitches a fit.

That was a big part of it for me, too. Due to the way they were officiated, the conference championships left a very sour taste in my mouth and left me with this feeling that the SB was illegitimate. I wasn't the least bit excited about watching it, and indeed, allowed my buddy record it and skip through the commercials. It was anti climatic.

I didn't watch it. As far as I was concerned for the Seahawks to win, both teams needed to lose. Both of their fan bases are annoying as all get up and I didn't want to see either one become more inflated. Only reason Pats winning was slightly better was so Rams fans like Ram-blow won't become more of a jackass.
