Second time around

Postby Hawktawk » Thu Dec 26, 2019 9:59 am

I read an article this morning discussing the Seahawks record meeting teams for the second time in the same season. In the last 2 seasons they are 1 -7 in second meetings including getting stuffed in Dallas in the WC. They typically win the first meeting . The only divisional opponent they swept in that time was AZ last year. The only team to sweep them was the Rams last year. So now they see SF again on the heels of being pounded by two division teams in the second game.

Beyond that they have played every playoff team except Green Bay this year already.

I just thought that was an alarming stat. Is Seattle not modifying their game plan? Coincidence ? Injury, fatigue? Anyway I sure hope they can buck the trend or its 2 more ugly losses and a long offseason.

I've always felt that in a two game series and all other factors being equal, that the losing team of the first meeting has an advantage in the 2nd meeting as they have more mistakes to learn from and correct while the winning team is affected by overconfidence and unrecognized flaws.

Over confidence and unrecognized flaws shouldn’t be a problem for the Hawks if they spent anytime looking at game film from the Rams or Cards games. Those were about as ugly as it gets. Hopefully the Hawks learned a little from that film ,players and coaches included. I’m expecting a loss and 5th seed in the playoffs, but praying for victory and a bye. Hopefully there is some plan to try to get the short to intermediate pass game going and just maybe beast can plant an few Niners on their ass to fire up the team and crowd. The only chance the hawks have is to come out with a lot of new unseen wrinkles on both sides of the ball and the hope the backups can execute. Not looking good but there is always hope. Gonna take a lot of prayers to pull this one off.

I almost always go into NFL weekends these last 10 years (or so) with a sense of cautious optimism. Last weekend, I braced my little hawk-loving 11 year old pal for a possible upset. I didn’t predict getting our arses handed to us, being completely over-played in the trenches, being incapable of scoring against one of the league’s worst Ds, and I certainly didn’t guess the glut of injuries. This is as negatively as I’ve felt about the chances for an upcoming Hawk’s victory as I can remember in this time period. I would love to win (duh) and would be happy with a close scoring game w/ no major injuries. I just don’t see a way that this iteration of our beloved team has what it takes personnel wise outside a few players. There are a few intangibles that may come to save the day, but I’m not counting on it.

And, if I could choose just one or two of all our injured players to come back (including Britt & Dissly), I’d probably go with Duane and Quandray. And as much as I ove my fatties, if given only 1 choice, I’d take the latter. Our D got better when he came to town and it hasn’t been the same since his ankle sprain.

Yea, I'm pretty down on our chances, too, and not just due to our injury situation. Our home field advantage isn't nearly the advantage it used to be. It hasn't been the same as it was prior to 2015 or so. Hopefully having Beast back in the lineup will give our fans a much needed kick in the pants.

On the other hand, having lowered expectations has its advantages. If we lose, it won't be the downer it would be if I were anticipating a win, and if we win, I'll be even more excited than I would have if victory was expected.

And to The Pope, I agree, we're going to need to solicit some divine intervention. The return of Beast Mode is a pure Hail Mary move if I've ever seen one and has very little chance of success. But then again, we've all seen successful Hail Mary's so who knows.

I’m with sista on this . I’m usually pessimistic as any good outcome is a pleasant surprise but I never pick my team to lose.

I’m going to say 9ers 31 Hawks 19. We didn’t face Kittle round one. We are missing numerous players and none more than Carson and for that matter Penney who made us a different team. The injuries on a defense that hadn’t been dominant when healthy are just another reason for pessimism.

Russ says Lynch is in shape and looks quick. I think beast will make some plays although if I’m schotty the first call is play action and go up top for lock or DK. Turbo is a career 3.1 ypc back who I expect very little from.

Regardless I don’t think it will be enough . My prediction is we are in Philly a week from Sunday. We’re in the tournament but this just isn’t the team it was a month ago . I have zero expectations .

I think Lynch and maybe Turbin will see some spot action on Sunday to spell Homer. I see their main contribution to be in pass protection and perhaps as receivers.

I agree completely on the pass protection thing. They have both blocked for Wilson many times.

Make that three of us. It wouldn't be wise to ask a quarterback and running back to get used to read option handoffs after just a couple of practice sessions. The running back's role in pass blocking schemes is a little more universal from team to team and less riskier than it is in other aspects of the offense.

Maybe true, but no use worrying about it. No one thinks we'll do much including our fans. Might as well hope for the best and have fun with it. Maybe Beastmode got one last Beastquake in him.

It sounds like a lot of guys are getting back on D not to mention SF lost another guy in their D line rotation to injury. With all the doom and gloom I try to remember that this 9ers team managed to lose to Atlanta at home. Then again they beat the Saints on the road so who knows. Lets get it on. GAMEDAY!!!GO HAWKS!!!!

Yea, Clowney said earlier this week that there was no way he was missing this game. If him and Ziggy are both at full strength, that could make a huge difference.

Diggs is questionable with an ankle injury and will be a game time decision, as will be Luke Willson, who practiced all week. Duane Brown and Malik Turner are both out.

At this point this game don't matter much. I'd almost rather use it as a bye week. Philly on the road or Minnesota at home about the same. We on the road likely the rest of the playoffs. Might as well rest as many as we can and prepare for a long road stay if we want a real shot at the Super Bowl.

I'm sure Pete wants to win the division and see if the team can step up.

We lose this game and we'll have lost 3 of our last 4. That's not a good way to enter the playoffs. Plus there's always the chance that the Packers could lose their divisional round playoff game, especially the way they looked today. IMO it justifies our going all out to win this one.

I don't think there's any restrictions on pants, but teams are limited to using an alternate jersey to 3 games per season. Not sure how many times we've worn the nuclear puke green/wolf gray jerseys.

Ok,I also read where Niners are wearing their throwback all white, so was hoping for something other then all blue.. I guess really doesn’t matter, tho

The only time I think it really matters is when there's a problem with low visibility, such as a snow storm or fog. I distinctly remember a game 12 or so years ago when Matt Hasselbeck had an uncharacteristic off night vs. the Packers when Green Bay was wearing white jerseys in near blizzard conditions. I swore that he couldn't see Packer defenders and tossed a couple of INT's. In that case, our glow-in-the-dark, nuclear-puke green jerseys would definitely be a factor.
