OT Chad Wheeler arrested on DV, assault charges

Postby c_hawkbob » Tue Jan 26, 2021 2:35 pm

Get the hell rid of this POS, bipolar is no excuse for this!

Wheeler is accused of throwing the woman on the bed and strangling her until she lost consciousness. When she awoke, Wheeler allegedly said “Wow you’re alive?”

If true, we don't have to worry about him getting cut as he'll be in jail.

Right! Assuming this is even remotely true, jail time seems likely. Either way, get him out of a Hawks uniform.

He's a FA so they just won't re-sign him.
He'll never play in the NFL again, I think.

Yeah the team just released a statement that he is no longer part of the team and that "Our thoughts and support are with the victim". Merely a formality signaling our definite intent not to exercise our option to tender him as a RFA, but still something that needed to be said.

Never heard of this guy. Was he on the practice squad? Did he ever play in a regular season game?

Obviously this guy is mentally ill and society needs to be protected from him. He released a statement via social media:

"Events happened over the weekend that transpired from a manic episode. I am deeply sorry for the pain and suffering that I have caused to Alleah and her family. I apologize profusely for the turmoil that I have caused to my family, teammates, fans and those closest to me. The most important thing right now is that Alleah gets the care she needs and I get help. Both are happening. ... It is time for me to walk away from football and get the help I need to never again pose a threat to another. I cannot express my sorrow or remorse enough. I am truly ashamed."

I hadn’t read the whole article. WOW! That is horrible in too many ways to count. I hope she is ok, and that Wheeler gets help and some time away. What a sad story.

There's a lot of crazy stuff going on in the country today. Although this guy obviously didn't get into the condition he's in overnight, I can't help but wonder of this pandemic and associated lockdowns might have been a contributing factor causing him to snap.

They say that the first step in any rehab is acceptance of a problem, and Wheeler seems to have taken that big first step. He needs help but society needs to be protected, too.
