Thanks IG.
Tough to compare from previous years. Writer did a great job though.

Great article Master Chief, well researched and loaded with all the appropriate disclaimers about comparing across eras, an inteligent, fun look at the great defensive backfields of the NFL then and now.

And yeah, while it's impossible to be definitive about a specific "best ever" there's no doubt the LOB belongs in the discussion.

Old but Slow wrote:Nice read, thanks, Greg. However, all of the all-time best lists are problematic. Rules changes, changes in the way the game is played, the increased size and conditioning of modern athletes, and so on make comparisons difficult. Can you imagine what the Legion of Boom could have done with the old rules on contact? Night Train Lane made a reputation for clothesline tackles, for instance. I remember when I was in college (early 60s), a 300 pound pro football player was considered huge. Most centers weighed around 260. Now on O lineman under 300 is suspect. I did appreciate that this writer made appropriate caveats in his judgements.

No kidding. Load these guys up with Stick-em and allow them to knock WRs off of their patterns all over the field and it would be difficult for any team to pass for more than 100 yards on them.
