Preseason Game 2

Postby RiverDog » Fri Aug 15, 2014 3:36 pm

Like many others, during regular season games, I have a habit of watching the ball as the center of my focus as a cameraman would, look at details on the replays. But in preseason games, I don't care nearly as much about the final outcome so I usually concentrate on watching specific areas as its shown live.

The starting OL for tonight: LT Bailey, LG Carpenter, C Unger, RG Sweezy, RT Britt. It's the first action of the season for Carpenter and Unger. I'll be watching closely to see if Carpenter looks any different after having come to camp in the best shape he's been in since he's been with us. I'll also be watching Britt. I was a bit surprised to see him get the starting nod again.

San Diego's DL doesn't contain a lot of scary pass rushers, plus we're at home, so maybe we'll get to see a semi stationary Russell Wilson instead of the run for your life Russell.

It sounds like Bobby Wagner is still out, so we can expect to see more of Brock Coyle. He didn't play too badly last week, seemed to be in the right place, got up off the bottom of the pile a lot. Cassius Marsh's MRI came back negative and they say that he might see some action tonight.

I want to see more of Christine Michael, if his blocking is going to be good enough to earn him more PT this season.

Hello Seahawk fans we have a hard road ahead to repeat as Superbowl champs. Last week is over it's time to concentrate on our Quarterback play ......hmmmmm maybe thats what they should have done with the 1st preseason game. It turned out to be a close one , because the Broncos have a defense now. Really tough game it was in Denver too. am expecting Russell Wilson God bless him to have a trouble free game maybe he will break out for several TD's right away. This game is nothing like the Denver game was it's still preseason , it would be nice to win but it depends on what the coaches want to do with it. I am looking for Wilson God bless him to run for a couple throw for a couple energize our offense.

Oh BTW ............................ It's very nice to be back on my favorite forum you guys are real great. It's always hard to win a Superbowl this this ladies and gentleman we will not surprise anyone from preseason on. Those Broncos must have thought they won the Superbowl very tough........expect more this season will have a nice ring to it if we do win it this way with everyone gunning for us.

POLITICAL FOOTBALL IS BACK WITH ALL MY ENTHUSIASM ROOTING WITH ALL MY HEART WIN OR LOSE.

I am predicting a 12-4 record with us winning over the Patriots in a close one.

They finally switch over from the f@#$ing Patriots game just in time to see Hkick making it 10-0 ... now I've probably missed all of our 1st team's action!

They're actually showing it live in Hawaii... good chance to see the team and they look real good right now.

So far with the first team's in, how 'bout that OLine dominating in the run game so far. It's early, but they look a lot better than last week.

And, yes, I saw the RT get beat a couple of times, but he IS a rookie. He WILL get better. And no Okung.

AFter watching Pryor play QB again this week.. I wonder if Tavaris is worth anything in a trade. He's better than 1/2 the b/u's and a couple of starters, but may be #3 this year on the Hawks.

Game two is under wraps a 41-14 win, bring on Chicago. Lots of good things are happening with this team. Each game sheads new light on weather we will repeat as champs or not. I'm very interested in the battle for back ups RB QB. Still can't believe we are SB champs , our team played like champions out there this evening. I can feel the electricty in the air. Christine Michael Terrell Pryor are great wonderful don't stop the energy coming I know I won't. All my Christian friends really respect Russell Wilson he has an outstanding additude. He deserves a break today. His family is overjoyed i'm sure , when are we going to relax, whew! I think it's tonight preseason is half over now September comes fast. Wow first game for when it counts is soon, another SB win would just double my happiness. I'm in love with Christine Michael, Terrell Pryor, Carpenter, Scofield with his two sacks.Everyone who had a part in this win. We are proud of our starters. I want to lose weight then jump in the ocean catch a few waves! To celebrate when the season starts. When we play our first regular season match up I know those who are going to become starters who will have playing time will have earned it. I go home now goodnight.

So wait TP was 1-4 and your excited? wow I mean great he can run but last I check you have to throw to be a QB and for the 2nd straight game TP in under 60%.

So lets see to date he is 10-20 50% complt, 147 yards, 1 int 0 tds, 49 qb rating and you think that is good? WOW , I mean that is horrible. HE can run, but he cannot pass, and that is want QBs do.

I seriously doubt it. The Bills only forked over a 7th rounder for him two years ago, and I hardly think that his stock has risen above that since then.

I haven't watched the game yet as the wife and I took the grandkids out to the baseball game last night. But the score and some of the comments from guys like ObS are encouraging.

Old but Slow wrote:This game renews my faith in Carroll and this team. They ran the ball wonderfully, and played much better in critical areas. Russell actually had some pocket time in this game. Not every play, but enough to give him some looks. Carpenter looked much better. He whiffed on his first pass protection play, but turned it around quickly, and played pretty well. Sweezy looked great. I will need to look at some replays, but he did not seem to make mistakes.

The backups made a few blunders, like losing Keenan Allen in the back of the end zone, but they certainly played better in this game than they did against Denver. And I can't help wondering if the NYGiants are regretting refusing OB Schofield over his physical. He looked like a game changer, tonight.

It becomes increasingly interesting whether they will keep 3 QBs. Pryor is a special athlete. His naked bootleg was awesome. One of the last defensive players had an angle on him, and then he didn't….

Turbin seems to have solidified his advantage over Michael, tonight. Michael's fumble came when a defensive player put a shoulder on the ball, so it is not terrible, and his quick reflexes to get the ball back was remarkable, but, in general, Turbin looked like a complete back. He blocks well on passing plays, and has enough burst and strength to contribute.

I mentioned Schofield, but Avril seemed to have a special pass to the QB (right this way Mr Avril, we are honored to have you in our backfield). Our pass rush is getting better and better, and we didn't have Michael Bennett (whose name should be uttered in hushed tones). My concerns about losing Clemons are fading.

The young Simon may be able to play corner. The penalty that nullified his touchdown return will not be called in the regular season. Interestingly, the official in perfect position to make the call, didn't, and the flag came from deep in the end zone from an angle that would have made it difficult to make the call. Bogus, I say, bogus. But, he showed us a preview of what he can do, and it is exciting. Although, he needs to get his weight going forward when he throws a punch.

Fun game. Comforting, in a way. The boys will be alright.

Nice synopsis old man, I agree on all the bullet points. I liked Mayowa too ... we may have to find room for both he and Mr Schofield.

I liked how the OL played. It relieved a lot of angst following the Denver game.
If Bailey gets more time against top players, he could be serviceable as Okung's backup.
Britt played pretty well, too considering it's only his second game against NFL calibre players.
The Guards were solid and Carpenter looked a lot better. I even saw him getting to the 2nd level a couple of times - can't say I've seen that much previously.
Harvin looked explosive and Wilson was sharp. I would like to see Richardson get more time with the 1's.

They missed Bennett on Defense, but Mebane played like it was mid season. Marsh has some serious quickness - he's far more advanced at rushing the passer than Irvin was at this point.
Coyle was pretty good again filling in for Wagner, but there is a noticeable dropoff. I wonder if they keep him over Farwell. Maybe it depends on contract and ST.
Simon is a keeper. He looks and plays the part well. If there were no numbers, I could be fooled into thinking he was a 1st year Richard Sherman. He just looks like him on the field.
The rest of the backups in the secondary were somewhat disappointing. They're still young and the coaches are seeing a lot more than me so it will be interesting who they keep.

North is pretty spot on. Britt had a play that made him look like a rookie ( when the DE deposited at Wilson's feet) but as a whole that line looked good, solid, and kept the pocket clean for the most part. Looking forward to seeing the actual starting five against a better pass rushing team.

He had several really excellent blocks, and as a whole had a "plus" night, I was just pointing out a play that showed he was indeed a rookie. It did appear that he is a quick learner in regards to mistakes he has made, which IMHO is a BIG deal, and is something that has held back a couple of our lineman in the past ( Carpenter comes to mind immediately).

What made the Turbin run wasn't so much Britt's block as it was Miller's. But I do agree that Britt looked a lot better last night than he did last week, as did the whole offense. Russell looked to be in mid season form, only mis-fired once, excellent decision making. I was surprised to see him run as much as he did. Turbin looked great, I can't see Michael leap frogging him on the depth chart.

I feel a lot better about our O tonight than I did earlier. If Harvin can stay healthy, we're going to put some points on the board.

Ain't that a scary thought? For other teams, that is. Hope it continues into the third preseason game.

Bad choice, faded toward Harvin and left Miller wide open. This is the kind of effect that Harvin can have for the offense, even if he is not being thrown at. Hopefully, Richardson can bring the same kind of influence to the passing attack.

Speed on the outside can effect everything. World peace, third world hunger, internet security, and maybe even turnovers. When defensive players are pulled away from the LOS, the running game thrives. If Harvin or Richardson can pull even one defender away from the middle, our running game will take advantage. And the short passing game, as well. I like the plan, as it develops.

The scenario has been that the SuperBowl winner falls apart with contract issues, complacency, and desertions. I don't see that happening with this team. Rather than being satisfied, they seem to want to be even better. Better and better. Always compete. Not a bad mantra.

What I liked was the quick hitters, and safety valves they had today something they did not due a lot of last year till the SB. The bad past was if the safety did not fade towards Harvin and instead stayed middle then Harvin was wide open, pick your poison.

What will be scary is if you put Richardson and Harvin on the outside with Kearse and Baldwin inside and MIller. to much speed in Harvin and Richardson, to much highflying in Kearse, to much hardnose in Baldwin and MIller. Then add in what I am hoping will be Norwood, and either Bates, Lockett, or Matthews and with the TEs all being 6-5 we have redzone targets galore.

Anthony, I'm sorry I didn't explain myself. When Terrell entered the game, we were up by 21 or so... so I wouldn't expect him to come out passing, would you?

What I liked was for him to manage field position and run the clock... we had no punts and lots of first downs and nice runs. Manage the game... we had no turnovers. Manage personel and the calls.. .we had limited penalties that I remember.
Amazing, but that's exactly what I would of expected from Russell and we got it from Terrell.

OK, he was 1-4 for not much yeads. I did not go back and look at those plays so I can't determine if it was him, the defense or the receiver's fault. At the end of the game, that wasn't what I was seeing.

Pryor's style is much more conducive to continuing continuity in the offense of a run first team and he adds another dimension with his speed.

I saw that, too. The safety was caught in No Man's Land. Thing of it was that I don't think he was in a good position to help on either one. The solution would be for the corner to back off Harvin so he doesn't require help, but then that gives him the quick stuff, bubble screens, etc. But it all starts up front.

What I really liked was Russell's decision making, but that's become so much of an expectation that we tend to overlook it when it happens. Last season, I thought that there were times he held onto the ball waiting for a receiver to get open when he could have easily ran for a first down. Last night, every decision was the correct one, he ran a lot but only when it was his best option.

That happened last season in the Minnesota game as well, it's difficult for a safety to make that choice and "stretches" the defense in ways that creates issues across the board. Get used to seeing it, most safeties do not have the speed or ability that they do in say Seattle, and it is going to help is a TON of ways.

Exactly what was it that caused you to lose faith in them in the first place??? I have read your posts for more than a decade going back to the old P-I Forum and I have usually agreed with your posts. In fact, except for this quote I agree with the bulk of the rest of your post.

Surely you had not lost faith just because they lost an exhibition game to the Broncos? The game they played before that was a win in the Super Bowl, was not a World Championship enough to have faith in our Seahawks and HC????
