I don't know WTF to make of carp. He can be so beast-like one play & bring back a TD on the next. Even w/ those issues, our offense is far from our biggest issue.
The lack of a pass rush (and the turnovers that pressure creates) strikes me as the biggest current issue. Ealier I mentioned that our record last year at this point coul have very easily been 3-3. Our o-line was a mess but our Dline was getting after it. This year, we have 7 sacks after 6 games. SEVEN !!!! That's VS.16 at this point last year. There is a big gap in take-aways from last year to this year at common points. There is such an obvious link to pressure and take-aways. In fact, all due respect to Malcolm Smith, Avril's pressure on Mr. Manning gave him my nod for MVP of the SB. Every beautiful turn over was the result of relentless sexy pressure.
The lack of pressure & depth (as I keep saying) on D are the key differences this year. Even the lapses on ST are related to our lack of depth.
These are the issues that plague the Lombardi trophy winners year in and year out. While all 32 teams are an ACL away from real trouble, we are still in this thing, we are not done by any stretch. We've gotta reel off some Ws here pretty quick though. Starting w/ the panthers.
