The Hawks do NOT get blown out

Postby Stream Hawk » Sun Nov 30, 2014 4:40 am

Depending on the accepted term for a blow out, it has been quite a long time since this team has got their a##es beat. If we are talking greater than 10 points for a blowout, then it was mid-2011. In 2011, Cinci ran up the score in and won 34-12. I remember hoping that Charlie Whitehurst (sp, seriously?) would kill it that day and take off from there; that should tell you enough about the time lapse.

We do not get blown out. End of story. That is obviously Pete Carroll's way, but either way it is pretty freaking cool. And obviously Russell seems to always out us in a position to win. What we have is rare.

Anyways, this HAS to mean something for our team's remaining playoff push in relation to the competition. Honestly, how many of the playoff contenders have been blown out THIS YEAR? Answer: all of them.

This is an amazing feat. We will all look back on this with the utmost admiration.

Prior to this season, the last time we lost a game by more than one score was in 2011. This season, we lost by 9 to the Chargers even though it was essentially a one score game.

So your statement is correct. That's what good defense does for you, it keeps scoring low so that you're in every game.

Being "blown out" means having the game put out of reach, if you're still within 2 scores you're still in the game till quite late in it. I've always thought of anything more than 2 TD's as a blow out.

No, we don't get blown out much anymore, which is easily my favorite thing about watching us play nowadays.

I attended the Cincy game in 2011 which was the red rocket AD and AJ Green coming out party. Whitehurst started and was yanked trailing 7-3 after a couple of uninspiring drives. T Jack got the Hawks actually fairly close in the second half and threw for a lot of yards. The final score was a byproduct of a late pick 6 and punt return TD. If I recall Carroll had what he termed a "hormonal moment" going for it on 4th down and failing. In Carolls first season Seattle either won or got sandblasted, the win over the Saints in the wildcard being the exception.Early returns weren't promising and I was a critic entering the 2012 season.

But lately they are the toughest of outs. The D is a major component of that and also having a QB who creates offense at critical times while generally avoiding giving the ball to the opponent and a back who wears down defenses. Its a team effort for the Hawks, a uniquely old school team built for January. We've come a long way........

It's obviously because of the Defense. If the other team has to work hard to score, the game should be close.

It obviously is due mainly to our tenacious Defense, although as you said, RW, & other factors are at play in this tendency. Remember the road game in Chicago 3 seasons ago? We came from behind to win it due to timely interceptions, Russell's amazing scrambling, buying time, & converting 3rd & long scenarios to force OT in which we won. That game to me symbolizes the turning point from the old Seahawks to the new & improved. It sure is mind numbing to see, (relatively), how far we've come so fast. The Seahawks are respected nationwide, & after so many years of mediocrity, (the Holmgren years notwithstanding, of course), it is very refreshing. Given the fact that the current roster of Seahawks is young, & the ownership & management are firmly rooted & stable, I look for this trend to continue for a long time to come. It's a strange but good feeling I am still getting used to, even after 3 seasons. How many more Lombardi trophies are in our future? I tell you, it's not far reaching to say that we may have an overcrowded trophy case in Seattle 10 years from now. GO HAWKS!!

To me there were 2 signature games in 2012, the year that RW arrived and it all came together. 1 was the Bears and the other was the Patriots. Then of course the 5 game win streak that was a signature statement all in itself. The 2012 draft bringing Wags and RW was the piece that put it all together.
