The thread about which player from any team we would like got me to thinking ahead to the Draft at the end of April and who we might consider.
Here are a few that have caught my eye.
At DT, there are a number of players we would want, but how the Draft falls obviously determines who we can choose.
One guy who should be around whenever we pick is DT Michael Bennett of Ohio St. Too bad that name is already taken, but it would be fun to listen to the announcers trying to differentiate our two DL if they should combine to make a tackle. Coincidentally there is a WR named Michael Bennett that should still be there late for us, too.
Bennett is one of those guys who penetrates. Last year he was playing a 3 technique where his quickness permitted him to penetrate into the backfield. This year they have asked him to play mostly 1 tech which means he has to often take on two blockers. He's only 6-2, 288 lbs so this year he is getting overwhelmed as his game is quickness and speed. He sounds a lot like our own Michael Bennett.
Danny Shelton. Washington probably won't be there when we pick, but he is a run stuffer that can also collapse the pocket.
WR
A number of players might fit here.
I doubt Amari Cooper lasts until our pick, so the next guy on our radar might be either DeVante Parker of Louisville 6-2, 209, or Kevin White, West Virginia 6-3, 209.
If as expected Devin Funchess enters the Draft, he has what this team is missing - size at 6-5, 235.
The last guy on my list for an early WR is Jaelen Strong from Arizona St. 6-4, 205 He has been described by some as being a Kenny Britt type of WR.
Others:
Sammie Coates. Auburn 6-2, 200 with legitimate 4.3/4.4 speed that Pete would love. I think he goes higher than our pick.
Dorial Green-Beckham, Oklahoma 6-6, 225 but with off field issues - his personality might not fit here.
OL
I don't think we go OL in the first round as that doesn't fit the pattern after selecting Okung. It seems we would trade into the 2nd and select an OL there.
One guy who might fit here is Cameron Erving Florida St. 6-5, 304. He has played LT, RT, G, and moved to C part way through this year and played well at all positions and was voted the ACC most outstanding blocker this year.
That's the type Cable likes as he also played on the DL in 2011. He might be there mid to late 2nd round.
