2015 NFL Draft

Postby NorthHawk » Sat Dec 06, 2014 11:31 am

The thread about which player from any team we would like got me to thinking ahead to the Draft at the end of April and who we might consider.
Here are a few that have caught my eye.

At DT, there are a number of players we would want, but how the Draft falls obviously determines who we can choose.
One guy who should be around whenever we pick is DT Michael Bennett of Ohio St. Too bad that name is already taken, but it would be fun to listen to the announcers trying to differentiate our two DL if they should combine to make a tackle. Coincidentally there is a WR named Michael Bennett that should still be there late for us, too.

Bennett is one of those guys who penetrates. Last year he was playing a 3 technique where his quickness permitted him to penetrate into the backfield. This year they have asked him to play mostly 1 tech which means he has to often take on two blockers. He's only 6-2, 288 lbs so this year he is getting overwhelmed as his game is quickness and speed. He sounds a lot like our own Michael Bennett.

Danny Shelton. Washington probably won't be there when we pick, but he is a run stuffer that can also collapse the pocket.

WR
A number of players might fit here.
I doubt Amari Cooper lasts until our pick, so the next guy on our radar might be either DeVante Parker of Louisville 6-2, 209, or Kevin White, West Virginia 6-3, 209.
If as expected Devin Funchess enters the Draft, he has what this team is missing - size at 6-5, 235.
The last guy on my list for an early WR is Jaelen Strong from Arizona St. 6-4, 205 He has been described by some as being a Kenny Britt type of WR.
Others:
Sammie Coates. Auburn 6-2, 200 with legitimate 4.3/4.4 speed that Pete would love. I think he goes higher than our pick.
Dorial Green-Beckham, Oklahoma 6-6, 225 but with off field issues - his personality might not fit here.

OL
I don't think we go OL in the first round as that doesn't fit the pattern after selecting Okung. It seems we would trade into the 2nd and select an OL there.
One guy who might fit here is Cameron Erving Florida St. 6-5, 304. He has played LT, RT, G, and moved to C part way through this year and played well at all positions and was voted the ACC most outstanding blocker this year.
That's the type Cable likes as he also played on the DL in 2011. He might be there mid to late 2nd round.

ANY of the first team all pack 12 Huskies would be a wonderful addition to the Seahawks ( especially Shelton) but ultimately, I could see the Hawks going super heavy on the offense in the early rounds this season. Reciever, O-line and TE are all positions I could see getting picked, maybe even RB depending on how they feel about what Lynch wants next year, and are not happy with either Turbin or Micheal as the "primary" back moving forward....

Ultimately, if one of those Husky studs are there, they should indeed take them, IMHO. Best player available should more often than not trump need IMO.

For all the holes we have to fill, I still focus on DL, and in particular a pass rusher.
Offense, for sure, is the more troublesome side of the ball right now for the Seahawks.

But a legit player who can put constant pressure on opposing QB's - or free it up for others to do so - would pay the biggest dividends, IMO.

I would go DL, OL, WR, and then RB.

The latter is a position that we gotta take seriously. We can't bank on Michael being the guy, especially since we are a run 1st offense, until further notice. Turbin is a great complimentary back, but not franchise material.

Beyond that, we need help at TE and should take a look at more LB prospects. And a team can never have enough good CB's, either. Depth is always key. Should be an interesting draft next spring.

We do need a true #1 receiver, but it seems to me that our Offense isn't geared to really needing one. A big WR who can produce in the Red Zone but not be a #1 might be a better fit. He also cannot be a prima donna as whoever they might find won't get the ball as much as other teams. Can you imagine how much whining a player like Dez Bryant might do here? Even with all his talent, he could be a net negative.

Pete's focus is Defense and I think they see some weaknesses that we might not, so I would guess if there is a choice between Offense and Defense, he goes Defense first especially if that player can put pressure on the opposing QB.

When we had an Offensive HC in Holmgren we always wanted a MLB or DL because Holmy concentrated on Offense.
It's the opposite focus with Pete a Defensive HC. He doesn't ignore it, but rather seems to believe that an OK Offense combined with a top Defense can win championships.
Seems to be working well so far even if many of us (including me) get frustrated by it.

Well every one knows that Pete and John will draft for what ever they want, they don't care what you, me or any annalist thinks they need. With that wisdom in mind here you go CB, CB, LB , QB, RB, TE and maybe some OL guy washes up through UFA so Cable can have some fun with him/them ;)

Exactly. We Need a WR, Center, and a replacement halfback. There are 3 really great WR's coming out in this years draft IF we can get a shot at them.

PS,
Dear FBall gods help Marcus not to end up a Redskin.

Thank you, Duck alum!

I hope Marcus doesn't end up in our Division.

We also need a TE that can block as Miller is nearing the end of his contract and is getting dinged up every year.
How about Sam Arneson from Wisconsin late in the draft? He might not make the big play, but he can block well and can make the chain moving 8-10 yard pass plays.
These are guys teams always need to grind out wins on Offense.

A late round or UFA WR to consider is Lemar Durant from Simon Fraser University, Burnaby BC (the only Canadian school in the NCAA) 6-2/6-3 220 lbs and runs a reported 4.3 or 4.4 40.
Since he's in our own back yard, I hope someone from the Seahawks has had a look.

I think we go bpa on the offense OL or WR or RB this strategy will produce immediately. There is still some time to get someone this season. Maybe some of our second string player's can be traded to get a starting first string player. We have done it before with good results.
