If we dump Mebane, McDaniel and a few others, we could do it. I'm nervous about it though.... and Mr. Beast Mode needs to get off the dime and make up his mind.

Have we ever gone after a big name FA early in the process? I seem to remember thinking they let the first wave or two of over priced signings go, then go after value in Free Agency.
Maybe this will change the whole perception if they make a play for him.

When is the last time a player of Suh's stature hit the Free Market? Detroit doesn't want to let go, but his contract paints them into a corner. I can't see how they pull it off especially since it really seems like Suh wants out of there. Maybe they can come to some kind of agreement, but if he's free come March 2nd expect a visit.

Peyton Manning in 2012 was the biggest FA ever to hit the market, and perhaps will be for the foreseeable future. We did make a half ass effort to bring him here, but it was pretty late in the process.

You're right, Steady there haven't been too many players of Suh's quality - and RD is correct we made an effort for Manning, but he made it clear he wasn't interested in Seattle.
You can also make an argument that although Harvin wasn't a FA, they made the move for him so perhaps the precedent has been set and they make a clear delineation between elite talents and just very good talents.

Still, although I'd be happy if they signed him, I would be surprised if they made a very competitive offer.

I honestly think they would offer him a touch more than McCoy to make him the highest paid DT at 16 per year, but that's it. I can't see them getting into a bidding war to rocket his salary into the 18-20 range. I can't wait to see where he ends up regardless. I just hope it's not in the NFC West if we don't nab him.

Pete & John will go after a truly special player at a high impact position. Remember they flew in a plane to Denver and sat on the runway trying to get Peyton Manning to meet with them?

"If" they have determined that Suh is one of those truly special players then you can also be sure that they have already determined a contract price and terms that they will be offering him if he does hit free agency.

We were in quite a bit different situation in 2012 when we made our half hearted effort to go after Manning.

I don't think there is any question that Suh is one of those "truly special players at a high impact position." He would make any defense a lot better, even ours. IMO we probably make a low ball offer to him, similar to what we did with Jared Allen last season, and see just how badly he wants to play for us.

Word from PFT via Armando Sulguero (Miami Herald) is Suh's target is around 102 Million over 6 years - or 17 million per year on average.

I think we will try. Our cap situation may be pretty comfortable next year. Between Lynch, Okung, Harvin's dead money and the cap escalating we could be sitting on 35-40 Mil next year. Granted, we will have lost some talent but all teams go through that.

Pretty sure the Hawks will have to be right up there with all the other teams with their offer.

The Miami Dolphins also are expected to make a run at Suh, who has made it clear he wants to land the biggest contract for a defensive player in NFL history and could be swayed by the fact that Florida has no state taxes to take out of eight game checks a year.

Indianapolis, the New York Giants and Washington are among other teams linked to Suh.

"Suh has let it be known that his agent's going to determine where he goes," said Louis Riddick, an ESPN analyst and the former director of pro personnel with Washington and Philadelphia. "An agent's No. 1 marching order is to maximize cash to his player, so Suh is going to get a record contract. And it'll be well north of $50 million in guaranteed money and will probably push high into the teens as far as average per year, approaching quarterback money, on an average-per-year basis."

There are some conflicting reports in that one said he will let his agent pick the best team and yet another report said he wanted to come to Seattle.
I would guess if the Browns with their continuing dysfunction offered the most money by a significant margin, he would say no as he wants to compete for a championship.

So in the end my suspicion is his agent will present him the best of a few offers and he will have the final say.
That being said, I doubt we will offer nearly enough money to convince him to sign here.

I'm just hoping his first trip is to the Emerald City. It would strike fear into all the NFC West teams. :)

To be honest I really haven't been able to force myself to care about any of these rumors. But what was the context for Suh mentioning Seattle? Was he asked if he'd like to play in Seattle and he said yes? Was he asked if he had a first choice and he volunteered Seattle? Was he given a list of teams to choose from and he picked Seattle as the most attractive option? Did he tell his agent to leak interest in Seattle to some NFL insider?

My gut feeling is it's closer to option 1 and 3 and this is being blown entirely out of proportion in this thread. Until the Seahawks actually go out and land a big name free agent I can't believe that they have any interest. I'm guessing they are probably more looking at guys at the Brandon Graham level to come in as part of the pass rushing rotation.

Wow I started another long thread! There is no way we can afford Suh, Wilfork might be a better option.

I hope he does come to Seattle.

I'd like to see this team have its own contemporary Lyle Alzado.
