Adrian Peterson to the Cowboys?

Postby RiverDog » Thu Apr 02, 2015 4:57 am

Tony Romo just restructured his contract, something he said he would be willing to do if they needed him to in order to keep DeMarco Murray. So why now?

The restructured deal clears up $12.8M of cap space for the Cowboys. Guess how much Adrian Peterson's base salary with the Vikings is this season?

$12.75M

Another abuser for the Cowgirls. Woman abuser and now child abuser. Another reason to hate them.

I think that is more of a coincidence than anything else, although I have no doubt the cowboys would trade for AP if he were to come available. After trading for him they would also probably restructure his contract or extend him, bringing that cap number down. I read somewhere that the most they could save in a restructure was 12.8 mil by bringing his base salary down to 1 mil. The funny thing is how Jerry has continued to restructure Romo's contract year after year, putting off his cap hit. Also, in the past 2 offseasons Romo has made an extra 28 mil in restructure bonuses, LOL. Jerry has ruined that team. If he wouldn't have restructured Romo this offseason his cap hit would have been 14 mil next year and low the rest of his contract. Now his cap hit is 20 mil next year, and then between 23-25 over the last 3 years.

Jerry's son Stephen is apparently taking more of a role in the player acquisitions and draft strategy the last couple of years and it's beginning to show as he has taken the solid player instead of the bling as we saw last year with Jerry apparently wanting Manziel.

Maybe it's just a coincidence. Deals are renegotiated all the time and there doesn't have to be an immediate need for teams to do so. But AP has stated for some time that he'd like to play for the Cowboys who proceeded to let their star running back go to a division rival then after the big wave of free agent signings pass, they free up money in the exact amount needed to take on AP's current contract. Coincidence or not, it's pretty hard to ignore.

Better Cowboys than Arizona - Arizona has been talked about for the past two weeks as team most in play for Peterson.
