You're right North they certainly might have been able to sign Asomoah, he is 26 and even though he wasn't good enough to start in KC towards the end of last season he certainly possibly could have been an upgrade over Sweezy or Carpenter possibly, however he graded out BELOW a much cheaper option in Bowie that is MILLIONS dollars less expensive, and already currently residing on the football team.

He MIGHT well have done so, my assumption is that he wasn't a big enough upgrade to tie up the money it would take to sign him, or maybe he simply didn't fit into the Seahawks scheme, acting like missing on a guard is the end of the team is a touch over the top.

Again, interesting idea, but pointless to lament the loss.

Better than Carpenter, but more expensive than Bowie for sure.

Good point.

I called in to Sirius NFL & asked the guys on Movin The Chains, (Pat Kerwin & Jim Miller, I think), this question. What do you think are the Seahawks plans to upgrade the OL in FA & the draft? Their answer was this: Given the big picture of Tom Cable's plans for the OL, there are basically things that will fall into place for the plan. Cable has a complicated zone blocking scheme in place, & he will continue to use the available people he already has in place to continue to execute the scheme. The spots available will be filled with backups that he has already educated in this scheme, & as those positions get filled, he will use the draft to put guys in place to come in & learn the roles that will be played by the new additions to the team. The overall plan is basically a next man up plan, with rookies coming in as the backups fill in the roles created by vacating FA's, retiring players, & injuries. It sounded to me like there are no plans to sign FA's for the OL, I don't know how much these guys really know about the Seahawks MO regarding the OL, but it sounded to me like the talk show hosts had a finger on the pulse of what the Seahawks plan to do or not do, & it stands to reason that this is why they haven't invited any FA's to come in. They want to use a system whereby they train young players to come in, learn the system, & then execute it on the field when they're ready, not by plugging holes with free agents.

That might explain why Carpenter isn't panning out to be the guy we hoped.
It may be too complicated for him to feel like he's just playing instead of thinking - and he may never get past that.

Regarding Asomoah, he's a Guard who according to some excels in a Zone Blocking Scheme (which Cable uses) and Bowie is supposedly a Tackle so even if Kirwan & co. are right and they will draft players instead of using FA, how are they going to fill in for Okung?
That was a complete gong show last year when he went down for his annual injury and they stuck McQuistan out there. It's to the point with Okung that they should be planning for how to fill in for him with this division so competitive.

Maybe this means they draft a T and G somewhere along the draft (earlier the better) - Kirwan has a mock draft where the Hawks trade back to Minnesota because Derek Carr is still on the board at 32.
It should give us a 3rd round and more for trading back if it works out like he says - maybe its another team.

Just a wild thought - if nobody wants to trade up and Carr is on the board, how about we take him?
In the hours between the first and 2nd rounds, panic could set in and they could trade him to another team or maybe get into a bidding war if more than one team needs a QB. Hold him hostage so to speak and get more picks.
