Can The Hawks Go 2 - 0 over the Next 5 Days?

Yea - They Can - I think this call is a combination of 60% rational thinking and 40% "Homerism" - But I think they will.

I look for a huge win tomorrow. Seattle 20 Az 10. If it happens, there will be a lot of emotion & confidence going into the SF game. How the defense performs in both games will be the key.

They most certainly "can", but we'll have to wait and see. Any team in the NFL "can" win two in five days, the biggest concern I have is with a physical Arizona team looking to "prove" it isn't some weird fluke, followed five days later by another "physical" game on the road against a team seething to take a shot at the Hawks ( not to mention the game previous against KC on the road another exceedingly physical game) the schedulers certainly didn't do Seattle any favors ( though with the virtual murderers row they put in place to start and then end the season, I'm not entirely sure they could have).

San Fran should be interesting ( I actually think there is a decent shot they some how flub this "trap" game away this week) to see the Niners coming off a creme puff Redskins game, vs a Seahawks team with their backs against a wall coming off a big time game against a serious threat to the throne.

Hoepfully, the Cards game goes exceedingly well and vaults them back into the hungry, chip ridden team we all have come to expect, but far to often this season has been left back at the hotel on gameday.

Of course they can. I don't think they will, but it is not much of a stretch to envision it happening. It is probably more difficult to beat two quality division opponents back to back than it is teams outside of the division. Hell, it's hard for both our teams to beat a subpar div opponent like the friggin' Rams. If Hawks win both, they are in the driver's seat for a 5 or 6 seed.

Here's what I ask myself: would I really be knock-me-down-with-a-feather surprised if this team ran off 6 straight to end the season?

The answer is no, so yes, beating two teams that appear 'beatable' in the next 5 days seems entirely within the realm of possibility (and I say that fully aware that both opponents probably think we're 'beatable', too).

Who's going to be at the game tomorrow? Not sure what time I'll make it to Seatown coming over the pass, but a meet-up is a possibility. Anyone up for a beer on Burrrton at FX, or whatever place RD likes on the gauntlet to the stadium?

I'll own up to the "maybe" vote, at the risk of catching major flak for it:)

It is going to be very, very, difficult to pull off these next two games. If we do, it's beyond Huge in terms of what it means moving forward for playoff odds.

If we split, IMO, then we're already getting into territory where we'll need other things to fall into place to make the postseason.

With poll questions like this, I try to remove the fandom as much as possible and answer honestly. Not accusing anybody here of doing anything differently, but this season has not lended itself in convincing fashion that we're the kind of team that can pull it off. It's been an inconsistent season, to say the least.

TNF road teams are 4-8 this year, and the Seahawks have lost 3 road games already in 2014. Seattle is capable of pulling it off, and I'm hoping they can, but it's gonna take this team tapping into 2013's mental toughness to do it.

Go Seahawks!!!

I don't have any issue with a maybe, IMO maybe and can are the same thing in this instance, can they? Yes. Will they? Maybe....... I mean there is no such thing as a guarantee in the NFL. Thed best anyone can feel is "odds" are in our favor, no such thing as a sure thing.

I'm another maybe.
With Marshawn not able to walk very well after the last game because of his back, only having 3 days rest could mean he might not be as effective as he might with 6 days rest. And as our Offense depends on the run game we could really struggle on Thanksgiving day.
The reality is we're really beat up so making a run is going to mean we get a lot of breaks or turnovers.
But hey, this is the NFL, so anything is possible.

If Seattle wins tomorrow they will win the next one, maybe the next 3. Sunday is a big key. Theres still time after Sunday but a win tomorrow and everything is still on the table for Seattle including possible HFA. If they get this win I think it energizes them. If they lose this one you have to wonder how they will respond moving forward. I think we win 27-14

Heck yes we can... I'm In!
Seriously, if our defense controls the game like the LOB should, this game should not be close. I like to believe that Russell has honed in his accuracy to go on a roll. I love our chances; and it all starts tomorrow (today).

I hope you're right - today was certainly encouraging!

We are 2-3 on the road so far, need to even that up!

Man, it would be Sweet to pull this next game off, especially since I live 15 from Levi's Stadium.

The 49ers barely beat Washington today, 17-13.
It was no easy game, and their offense looks terrible right now.

We have our own offensive issues, obviously, but this is still a winnable game.
Not easy, but it's looking better after the way our D played today.

+1

Let's not play the "it's in the bag" thing, but even those that haven't been paying attention should realise that even with three straight victories, the Niners haven't exactly been dominating inferior teams, getting a bail out in NO, squeaking by a five pick NYG team, and eeking out another at home against the Skins, if that is what the Niners produce on Thursday, could be a long game for them.

Not saying they will do so mind you, but I would be definitely not be claiming Seattle stands no chance by any means.

Oops 3 of 4 forgot the Rams loss...

We all know neither team has played up to their potential. Thing is, the Cardinals knew that about us, too; then they come in to our house and we finally turn it on. While they haven't been that scary so far, they may dig deep and turn it on for this one. This week, as with every week, the Seahawks need to bring their A game.

Re: Can The Hawks Go 2 - 0 over the Next 5 Days?

Postby monkey » Mon Nov 24, 2014 8:21 am

After the game yesterday I turned on the radio, and heard a talk show guy asking the question, "who is the best team in football right now?", and throwing out some names as possibilities. He mentioned the Packers first, saying that he felt they were the best right now. Of course he said the Patriots in the AFC, but he also mentioned Denver as a possibility. He also said that, a team with the best record has to be thrown into the mix. So then he concluded asking the question by saying, "So who do you think it is right now, is it the Packers, or maybe the Broncos, or maybe it is still the Cardinals?"

Immediately I called in and asked him, "You know what those three teams you just mentioned (Packers Broncos and Cardinals) all have in common? They've all been beaten by the defending Super Bowl Champions this year!"

That left him sort of speechless for a moment. Then he did admit that I had a good point.
Gee, ya think?

Point is, yes, I do think we'll go 2-0. If the defense continues to play like it just did, we could win every game the rest of the year all the way through the Super Bowl. I doubt that will happen, but it could when the defense plays like it did against the Cards.
If we can play that kind of defense, and run the ball, finding just enough passing offense to keep defenses honest, we can repeat as Super Bowl champs.

We have a major advantage at QB over anyone we will see from here on out.Sanchez seems like feast or famine but I bet Carroll knows whats going on between his ears pretty well. We have an elite running back who is in an increasingly bad mood which suits his game.We have a better defense than any team except AZ and we already beat them once. Guys are getting healthy and where starters are out backups have another game and win under their belt.

They can win all 5 but one at a time boys.

I looked at the stat page and did not see any advantage at all. I am sure you thought you had a major advantage 2 weeks ago when you played Alex Smith too. In fact, I am positive. Anyhow, may the best team win.

It seems to me that Kaep is improving his reads this year and is playing better than last year while up until the last game, Wilson was experiencing a little slump.
I don't think the difference is very much at this point. That's not to say that tomorrow either could look like an All Pro, but rather to date this year the gap is closing a little.

Actually his stats are close to the same or a little down from last year, except I think his comp % is a little higher, but he had a less potent recieving corps last year, supposedly. Of course the same could be said about Wilson's stats, except his rushing stats and the part about his receivers who are obviously not as good as last year.

Stats be damned. He's now reading the plays better and going through his progressions. That's progress even if it doesn't show in stats, and it also means when he puts it all together he will be trouble for the rest of the Division. As well, his OL isn't playing as well as last year, so like with Russell, it affects performance.

I completely agree with this. They are both dangerous in the right situations, depending on how the game plays out. Wilson worries me when he throws deep or if Lynch gets going working off of playaction. It is doubtful that either guy is going to pick apart either team just sitting in the pocket, especially given how our O-Lines have played. I really do not know what to expect in this game, to be honest.

You don't? Same as usual. Both teams smacking the hell out of the other team, and since it is on the road a close game won by a few points. I'll take Seattle this time to pull it out.

Sure the Seahawks can win tomorrow.. If the D shows up like it did against AZ we are in the game, no matter what. But here's one fact that they do need to overcome. Russell is 0 wins against the 49ers at Candlestick with a QBR of 32. Small sample, but it is history. Not exactly pretty in the past.

Lets hope that Levi's stadium is a little more friendly to him, or Kaep just sucks more. 15 hours to show time. 3:30pm start in the islands. I had a premonition that Sherman wins the game. Weird. Hope it's true. Maybe as a WR on a trick play...

The obvious answer is yes. Every team in the league 'can' win their next two. The question should be phrased a little differently, such as will we go 2-0. But I understand the point the OP is trying to make.

I do think that all things considered, that we're in as good of a position as one could expect when you take into account how the season has gone with the injuries and losing a couple of close games. Normally having to travel to your opponent's backyard on just 5 days rest would be a recipe for disaster, but we're getting a few people back, the Niners have had as many issues as we have, and they don't seem to have a particularly strong home field advantage in their new digs.

I really think that the Cards are going to fold down the stretch. Stanton looked horrible against us. I think I had over rated them and that they'll lose at least one game, perhaps two, before they play us again next month.

We have a pretty nice opportunity today for if we win, not only will we put the Niners in our rear view mirror, we'll have a mini bye of sorts before we have to travel to Philly to face the Eagles on MNF. We seem to perform pretty well on MNF.

Your math is off. I'll happily take Wilson in this game. Last season he threw a pick at the end of the game that drove his QBR into the ground when he was trying to come down and win the game with a few seconds left ( same as the year before) Personally I don't hold those against a QB when there is 30 seconds left and they are on their own 20 or 30 yard line ( in fact it is almost expected they will).

In game one his QBR was 35.6, game two 81.9, be more than happy with another 45 point improvement LOL.

Personally I prefer the QB that isn't checking down in those situations and is "going for the win" nothing disgusts me more than a checkdown with 30 seconds left, or throwing it out of bounds on fourth and 8 because he might get hit.

I like Seattles chances ( and if that is the measurment your using, would you prefer a lower QBR from the other QB in this game against our team?).

It looks to me that 11-5 would be the bare minimum to get in the playoffs this time around, so a win here would help alot, a loss would pretty much rule out the division and make it a 4-0 finish scenario.

HC,

It doesn't matter now, but the QB rating came from NFL Network, which I was watching when I posted. So much for their 'statistics' and I do think RW is a lot higher tonight then his past games. I wonder how the "I'll trade RW for ...." group is feeling about that right now.

I was right about Richard... had a feeling... Zero passes completed against him and 1 ONE against both corners... wow is Kap that bad?

This win is as big as last week's in terms of keeping our season alive, but even more satisfying since we hadn't won in SF since 2008 or so.

In a word...Wow!

Total dominance.

Until tonight, road teams on TNF were 4-8. It's just tough to travel on a short week.

It really couldn't be a bigger nightmare for the 49ers, to have Sherman eating turkey on the Niner logo after the game, then bringing the rest back to the locker room.

This is a big stomach punch to our division rivals. They had as much riding on this game, and failed to answer the bell.
It's clear that the Seahawks Live in Kaepernick's head at this point as well. He's a different QB when he has to play us, and unless he has a monster game rushing (last yr's CCG), he's ineffective and cannot put the team on his back strictly as a passer.

I normally don't pay much attention to tweets (twitter is a joke, imo), but the one sent out by Jed York after the game - apologizing to 49er fans for tonight's game - essentially says it all when it comes to Harbaugh's future. I think Seattle put the final nail in the coffin after tonight, though his departure may have already been determined a while ago.

We have not made the playoffs yet, but these last 2 wins are as big as they get to make it happen. Philly is going to be very tough. Amazingly, Sanchez has been resurrected as an Eagle. But it is winnable.

Great game tonight. The only way it would have been better is if Dallas won, imo, since they own the tie breaker against us. I'm also pulling for the Patriots in Lambeau, obviously.

Go Seahawks!!!

Why would you want the Boys to win? Seattle holds their own destiny in their hands right now, and personally, I have NOT given up on a division title or a first round bye. Seattle holds it's own tie breaker in it's hands right now with the upcoming Eagles game, and if the season were to end today, Dallas, not Seattle would be sitting at home ( Seattle #5 , Lions #6, Cowboys #7) Far as I'm concerned I could indeed see Seattle playing for a division lead on the road, on national TV in two weeks.

It's not finished yet, and Seattle IMHO isn't "sunk" or "relegated" to a WC team.

I always root against the Cowboys unless they're playing a divisional opponent of ours or unless we absolutely have to have their help. Besides, they're going to fold. They do it every December. Three of their last four games are on the road including the same Philly team that destroyed them yesterday and their one home game, actually almost a neutral field anymore, is against the Colts, and they're gonna tear that lame defense of theirs apart. They will go no better than 2-2 down the stretch. I have us going at least 3-1, with the only possible loss coming to the Eagles. A 3-1 December just might be good enough to win our division.

Off the top - I was thinking about tie breaker scenarios. Since the Cowboys beat us earlier this year, I thought they'd have the advantage if we end up with the same record, provided they were in the WC slot and not division winner. Same with GB, I'd think we'd want them to finish in the WC situation, since we do own the tie breaker there.

I did see that we are now currently the #5, which is huge, because that would have us play the #4 team - the NFC South division winner - in the first round, should things end up finishing as is.

Regardless, I'm not thinking of winning the West until we are within one game of doing it. Next week in Philly is going to be a b****. The Eagles, amazingly, are playing well. That win in Dallas was no joke. The are capable of putting a whoopin' on anybody right now.

But so are we.

Last night was Awesome. The bay area (where I live in CA) is going NUTS. They are convinced their season ended last night. And for all intents and purposes, it may have.

Go Seahawks!!!

Just a note of fair passing interest:

QBR and QB Rating ... not the same thing.

QBR is ESPN's fictional 0 to 100 QB rating designed to replace the traditional fictional 0 to 158.3 QB rating the NFL adopted in 1972.

For clarity sake, be sure which you are are arguing when you're arguing them.
