The thing about the McGuire pick was that our head coach at the time, Chuck Knox, wanted to draft Bret Favre but that the team owner, Ken Behring, overruled him and insisted that we select Dan McGuire out of San Diego State, who wasn't projected to go near that high but that was a favorite of our native Southern California team owner. That's one of the reasons why I liked Paul Allen so much, because he didn't interfere with on the field football decisions. He gave his HC/GM complete autonomy.

We've had mixed results in trading first round picks. We traded a first-round pick to the Cards for QB Kelly Stouffer, who was a huge bust, and we all remember the Jamal Adams trade. Those are two of the biggest boners we've ever pulled as a team. But then there's the Joey Galloway trade where we traded a malcontent star WR for two first round picks, one of which we used to draft a league MVP in Shaun Alexander.

Yes, and we used it on Shawn Springs, but that was the 3rd overall pick, not the first, which we've never had.

Yep! Boy, the Bears have had some absolute disasters at the quarterback position over the years. Some teams are just cursed when it comes to certain things.

Next Thursday we finally get to see what John does. I hope for a surprisingly great draft.

Assuming the quality & depth is where the pundits say it is, I hope we focus on DL & OL. Can’t gamble on #18, so BPA or trade back, but then five in. It appears there are talented WR in later rounds.

I can predict we will for surely take a WR in this draft, but I just hope we don't go early on it as this a very loaded WR draft. So maybe a 4th or 5th on WR would be ideal, and get a can't miss edge or CB early in the draft. As much of us are channeling a stud IOL for a 1st round pick, I just don't see JS going that high on a Guard.

Happy draft eve! I’ve landed on either get “extreme case” BPA at 18 or IOL Zabel/Ratledge/Booker? BPA over IOL has to be either of the two TEs, Tet (maybe), Mason Graham, or Starks/Emmanwori (riskier).

Yeah, it will be more interesting than watching a Mariners game.

I've heard rumors that we're trading back at #18 tonight. Unless it involves putting some picks in the bank for next season, I don't see it happening.

Adam Schefter says were eyeing a QB early. With an extra 2 and 3 I'm good with taking a shot.
I've always liked Ewers, I just wish he were a little bit bigger and of course there's the injuries. I think he's got some Farve/Rodgers gunslinger in him that JS likes.
I like Will Howard; He's played well in big moments buts there's a lot of inconsistencies in his game. His Gruden QB camp piece was a great watch.
I think JS might like Milroe, but that's a BIG project. Obviously a great athlete but he can make the easy throws look so difficult. He's said to be a great teammate, a leader, coachable and comes from a military background. I'd rather let another team take that shot but I'll be a fan if he ends up a Seahawk.
I'm meh on the others: Dart, Shough, Leonard, Rourke.

Seems that if JS holds to form, we will trade down (if a partner can be found) -- none of the OL choices are in many mock drafts, except for ours, so JS could trade down 6-8 spots and potentially trade down again to Cleveland or the Giants who may be looking to move up to get a QB. JS's history is not to draft IOL high, so getting one at the top of the 2nd seems OK along with 3-4 more picks.

If not that, then I still think we are looking at a WR, there are 3 of them and most mocks don't have more then 1 in the 1st round, so we could trade down and get DK's replacement (Ohio State WR Emeka Egbuka to match up with JSN?) .

The Raiders pick is Pete Carroll for certain. Get that run game going.
