What's your football id?

Id

The id
(Latin for "it") is, according to Sigmund Freud, the "part of the personality structure that contains a human's basic, instinctual drives". It's what you see yourself as, it's the real you. As football fans we all have a Football id, the position we all see ourselves as. Whether we ever played the game or not, when we imagine ourselves in a game it's as this id, playing this position. I thought it'd be interesting to find out what everyone else's id is.

I'm a guard at heart. I also played D-line but I enjoyed playing guard much better. As a D-Tackle or Nose Guard (as we called 'em back in the day) I often felt like a punching bag, always geeting double teamed, being expected to Hold my ground and react to the pressure being exerted on me (not letting that other guard move me ehere he wanted me) ... it was when we went on offense and I got to play guard myself that I got to go beat the snot out of the other guy for a change! Pass blocking wasn't as fun, but as much as enjoyed getting a tackle or a sack and hearing all the cheers, I very much preferred the satisfaction of a great block! Especially pulling and getting a head of steam up and pancaking someone!

So How about it, what's your football id?

I played FS and WR in high school, but my id at heart would be DE or DL.
I'd like to be a key player on defense, while not having to be in the media spotlight, if possible.
I love great defense.
It does win championships.

This man was everything I wanted to be as a player, and who I tried to emulate from the moment I started watching football.

I started playing FS, and RB. By sophomore year in High School ended up QB, FS and Kick returner till I graduated. 1 year in college as a kick returner and FS. I much prefer Kick returning and FS. I like being the hitter not the hittee :D

I think Freud would find another person as your id fascinating.

WORD. I was an all-league strong safety in high school imagining myself emulating Easley.

Probably, but it was easier to explain that I didn't just want to be a SS ( as I was) I wanted to be as close to play as I could to Easley. I played other positions ( receiver, Corner, FS and Returner both kicks and punts) but SS, was the ""ID" but not just some random SS, or the "average" SS, but the SS that was Kenny Easley.... Dude was my hero, lot of people ask themselves WWJD, for me, when I played, was injured, couldn't get out of bed in the morning etc, it was WWKED ? Got me through a LOT of pain and injuries, and taught what my "boundaries" were more times than I can reasonably explain.

QB. I see the game in route trees, throwing lanes, numbers in the box, and even/odd fronts. I always look for ways the O can exploit a D's weaknesses, and look for number advantages in the offenses favor. With that being said I have always believed defense wins championships and LOVE watching good D.

I was a 125 lb wr as a HS Freshman. By the time I was a senior I was 200 lbs and played O and D line in a small school. Id see myself as a nose guard now, in the mud, plugging the leaks, pushing the pocket.
