Not too much buzz about Quinn down here in the bay area, but his name has been mentioned on local radio.

Regardless, he's a prime candidate to be a HC somewhere after this season. Carroll actually encourages his guys to take that next step when they feel they're ready.

Jim Tomsula, SF's DL coach, is being considered for the gig as well, as it would increase the chances of the team being able to hang onto Vic Fangio, their DC.

The fact that we're in the playoffs hurts Quinn's chances as well, as it is rumored (per radio here) that the 49ers are going to want a new guy in place asap. We'll see.

If we lose Dan Quinn to SF, it would be a very hard loss. I'm sure Vic Fangio would be a candidate to replace him here. I'd take him. The problems at SF were with management above him. I'll bet he's not happy.

What they really need is a HC with an offensive background or a solid OC/QB coach to coach up Kaepernick. For as much as Harbaugh was renown as having some sort of magical touch with quarterbacks, he sure hasn't developed Kaepernick.

Some players are difficult to coach.
I don't know if it's the case with Kaepernick, but he might need to do less at QB and rely more on the ground game. More like what was demanded of Wilson early in his first year with the emphasis on ball safety. At least until he matures more at the position and develops a better ability to read Defenses. He has all of the physical tools, but like I've always said, it's what's between their ears that will determine success or failure at the NFL level.

Edit:
Maybe Bevell would be a better choice for HC or OC to develop their QB.

How's Hawk last DC Gus Bradley working out for the Jags? Granted Quinn would have a much better roster to work with. Just sayin. ;)

Yah, that's a total rebuild down there and it's not as easy as JS/PC made it seem to be with us up here.
Pete, after a long time coaching at very high levels knows exactly what he wants - I doubt Bradley and their GM are as certain as Pete is and are probably still finding their way a little bit with regard to talent. As well, our FO did a great job in assembling their scouting staff and directing them towards what they wanted in a player. Who knows who is setting up the scouts in Jacksonville.

Not only that, but Pete had a lot of college connections, either recruited, coached, or coached against a lot of players in college that later became major contributors to his program. That could be a reason why he's found such gems in the later rounds. Another difference is that this isn't Pete's first rodeo. He was fired twice before, and there's a point of view that you learn more from your failures than you do from your successes. This is Bradley's first head coaching job, college or pro.

Lol what the eff? I have not heard this guy's name once. That would be an absolute joke of a hire as we already have a D. This would make zero sense to solve our O problems. The most common names I hear are Gase and McDaniels. Both of whom make me want to puke lol. But I am sure they can draw up a gameplan to put up more than 13 pts against teams like the Raiders or Giants. So maybe they'd be a short term upgrade.

Then you haven't been paying very close attention. Quinn's name as a possible Niners HC has come up in several articles recently. It might just be pure speculation, but there is no doubt that his name has been tossed around.

It's not being tossed around here. And I listen to our sports radio everyday, post on NN, etc. I am sure anyone from Billick to a random college assistant will surface in the coming weeks. We are not hiring Dan Quinn.

Good, why would you want a coach of a historically great defense in SF? Glad to hear it.

Well, Zorny lives in the bay area, and he says he's heard Quinn's name mentioned on local sports radio, and I have never had a reason to doubt his word on anything.

I do agree with you that Quinn would not be a good fit for the Niners, but it's not because your defense couldn't use the Seahawk touch. IMO now that the Niners have hitched their wagon to that blockhead Kaepernick they need someone that can teach him how to play the position, otherwise him and his team will be no more successful than Randall Cunningham was with the Eagles a few decades back.

IF the Niner's do what everyone is saying and Harbaugh is gone by next week, they are not going to wait until after the Super Bowl to hire a new coach. Not enough time to put together all the other coaches and everything and get ready for the combine.

Well, I did hear his name thrown out here on KNBR when I was driving around a week or so ago, Future. The point isn't that he's a strong candidate, only that he was mentioned. Keep in mind, too, that often they (hosts) are just commenting on what's being written elsewhere, not just locally.

This is similar to another story that says Harbaugh may try to take Fangio with him, if possible, to Oakland if he ends up being the HC across the bay. Again, just radio hosts throwing stuff around, nothing more.

And I agree that you do need an offensive coach to run the show. And while I'd love for SF to be so stupid as to place their faith and trust in Josh McDaniels, it won't happen. Not unless the 49ers are beyond stupid, which I don't believe they are.
He'll never make a good HC candidate, period, IMO, let alone at 38 yrs old.

I dunno who you guys end up with, but I don't foresee the 49ers going through another long stretch of missing the playoffs after Harbaugh is gone. Enough pieces will be retained to get SF going again soon, maybe even next year. Everything that's gone down this season (Harbaugh vs F.O.) is surprising, in terms of the whole thing falling apart this fast, given his success as their coach.

I doubt Quinn lands in SF. If they're gonna go D coordinator as a HC in SF, then they can easily promote from within and give Vic Fangio the keys. He's well respected in their locker room already, and he's considered as good as they come for what he does.

About the only question mark there would be if they feel he has enough of the intangibles to lead the team as a whole, or if they want a more dynamic personality, etc. Of course they could decide to go with an offensive minded HC, which would make more sense to me, but risk losing Fangio in the process if he doesn't get his way (he's been campaigning for the job, per KNBR radio here in the bay area or CA).

According to Pete, the Raiders interviewed Bevell the other night.
I heard there is some sentiment for Cable as HC in Oakland again.
It's rare for that to happen but you never know.

If the Raiders want Cable they ought to keep Sparano. They are similar guys, hard nosed blue collar.
The Raiders won their last 3 home games and showed improvement. They gave Seattle all they wanted at the Klink too.Carr developed into the best rookie QB in the second half of the season.
After watching the inept Dennis Allen I was somewhat impressed.I'm sure they want to make some sort of a splash but the answer might be right under their nose.

Rex Ryan is also being interviewed. I've also heard that Josh McDaniels is being considered.

Losing Bevell would be a lot easier to swallow than losing Quinn.

I tend to agree with Zorny. If they want to go defense, they have a very good candidate in house that they already know pretty well. Fangio is the first HC candidate they interviewed. I can't see them hiring that clown Rex Ryan. His personality is too much like the guy they're replacing.

Kyle Shanahan OC of the Cleveland Browns is supposed to interview, too. He's a better fit for what they're supposedly looking for, ie a young offensive minded coach.

Jason La Canfora is saying that Quinn is now the front runner for the Jets HC.
Apparently the Marrone interview didn't go as well as the Quinn interview and they are willing to wait until the Seahawks are finished their season even if it means after the Super Bowl.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit.

It would shock me actually, I think he has roughly zero percent chance of being hired by San Fran. because they could (and probably should) just promote from within if they want a defensive coach to be their next head coach.

The Jets thing LaCanfora tweeted, now that seems more plausible.

HC;

You guys were right on this one, I was wrong. But as others posted, I cannot see us hiring him. Of course if we do, I'll go full homer and say he's the best coach ever lol.
