Precitions & Forecast for 2015 Draft Class

Below is an image of all of the Seahawks draft picks for 2015.

First off - I think the Hawks will earn grades averaging around a "C+" from all the experts on this draft.

Here are my projections:

Frank Clark - Significant rotation player - Also his being on the roster puts a trade for Bruce Irvin in play no matter what Pete says.

Tyler Lockett - Starting Punt and kickoff return man. Has potential to be our slot receiver before the end of the season.

Terry Poole - Looks more like a tackle - Adding depth to both tackle spots and perhaps as Russll Okung replacement if he can develop? Also will play guard and center if needed.

Mark Glowinski - Meet your New starting left guard - all the reports about this guy says hard worker, road grader and competitive (i.e. dirt bag......).

Tye Smith - Secondary depth - will get on the field on special teams and nickle and dime packages at times.

Obum & Kristjan - Redhsirts season for both - more than likely on the practice squad - Need time to develop these raw athletes into NFL players at their positions.

Ryan Smith Murphy - with the loss of Jeron Johnson he is in good position to make the team and see a role as a special team player and backup to Kam.

I'm not so sure Clark will play OLB as Irvin does.
I see him more as a DE who might upon occasion drop back, but only in certain formations.

I like the pick of Lockett as he has the added bonus of returns and is said to be a good route runner. However I have read a couple of comments saying he might not be able to take the punishment being an everyday returner.
We'll see how it goes.

Pool and Glowinski?
I could see Glowinski start as he's a natural guard and there's an opening, but I'll be surprised if Pool wins a starting job in the next few years, injuries notwithstanding.
As a whole, I see the OL as taking a step back this year.

Gwacham is interesting because he only played DE one year an was a TE prior.
I wonder if there is a thought to use him on Offense a little like they did with Gilliam.

I suspect the rest are depth and ST at this point.

Kind of doubt Clark becomes a 277 pound LB. Couple folks here have eluded to him being a "replacement" not sure what they are looking at, but not in the least believing that will be the case. If anything, I do see him as a Clemmons replacement, not Irvins, subbing in for Bennett and Avril regularly, along with Marsh. Seattle is not looking to bail on Irvin simply because they chose not to pay 7 million dollars a year. They will indeed attempt to retain him, they might not be able to, but they will make an attempt, and IF they wanted to bail, they would indeed have traded him, selected an actual LB to replace him, and been done with it. Not a much bigger, but much slower defensive end.

HC - What I meant was that Clark could replace Irvins "Role" as an edge rusher - Yes Agree he will not replace Irvin in a Linebacking spot.

I think Irvin is a Candidate for trade primarily because:

1 He has good value to other teams (every team needs a good edge rusher)
2. Final year of contract - - get the value for him for another good player (like a center) while we can - - Irvin will have no value after this season since presumably we would not sign him (though there is always the possibility that something could still be worked out next off-season).

I have nothing against Irvin - I actually have him as my #1 breakout candidate on the Seahawk's team for the 2015 Season - However - I think if the right quality center becomes available from another team, Pete & John would pull the trigger on an Irvin for that Center because of the reasons stated above.

Clark will be a locker room cancer, and gone by years end. Lockett is a lock as a star. IF Poole or Glowy start we will be lucky. Tye Smith will not make the team, neither will the guy from Buffalo. One of the two from OSU should make it. It would not shock me at all if only Lockett is on our roster after the end of this year.

Sadly, part of me thinks you might be right, but none of us are blessed with crystal balls (and we can all imagine how painful that might be) so there might be a chance a change of venue and higher expectations can result in better behavior.

I'm hoping for that as I don't want anyone on our team to fail - on the field or off.

Northhawk what people like C-bob don't understand, is I am giving the cheerleaders a lot.Take Lockett, he will be a star, but why not take Strong from ASU instead of Lockett. 6-2 217 fast and has the best ball skills of everyone in the draft. That's according to Todd Mcshay, not just Mel Krapper; He went one pick later. Instead we go for the faster guy but he is 5-10 186. Come on, Strong was a steal for the Texans. Look what he did to USC. I also dont think any of the Db's will make the team little own start but you have to give PC the benefit of the doubt after all the large db's he hit with before. Its like last year with Paul Richardson, come on, another skinny guy to feed to the NFC west defenses now he is out with an ACL. There are no sure things in the draft but there are good calculated risk, why take foolish gambles. Holmy was worse. I go off the deep again on all the Holmy projects but I am healed now!!

No one wants anyone to fail if they are a decent Human being.

I'll take a thousand gambles before wanting another Ruskfool "safe" or mitigated risk player again. Teams that take risks are more often than not rewarded for doing so, seems to be working to me, couple SB runs, perhaps the most talented roster top to bottom in the NFL, AND NUMEROUS, questionable, picks that are all pro's. They aren't all going to be, but they are hitting on those far more regularly than any other FO in the league.

I've been really impressed by our FO on how well they know Defensive players as per their fit within the roles of our team.
Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the Offense.

I've said for a couple of years now that Offense plays second fiddle to the Defense and considering we lost 2 starters and a Backup G/C on the OL, it's concerning and a little frustrating to see about 25 OL get taken prior to us selecting one, then another. Both Dallas with 2 OL picks before us, and Cincinnati selected OL before we did and their lines are already solid with no holes to fill. There were probably other teams drafting ahead of us quality depth for them, but who could challenge for starting positions here. With 11 picks in this draft, I was hoping we could get an immediate starter along the OL, but we went Defense first and will have to hope the coaches can coach the new picks up to the level required to play if someone gets injured.

Lockett is a good pick and his return skills will help our ST along with the Offense but other than his return skills, he's the same type of WR as Richardson. If they liked him enough to give up 3 solid picks, maybe they should have taken him first and hoped Clark would be there or at least maybe paid less later if they wanted to move up. At this point my suspicion is Lockett will be more important to the team than Clark, thus you could make a case for taking him before Clark.

For what it's worth ... Mel Kiper gave us an "A-" for the draft. Now, I don't know how I should feel, but I wish he had given us an F like he did 3 years ago. He called our draft of Irvin, Bobby and Russell the 'worst draft in recent memory' ---

I think that one of the 4th round big boys will start this year and be a real steal and stud for us at Left Guard. I have no idea which one. I see Lewis in the middle.. .Okung, Rookie/Bailey, Lewis, Sweezy and Britt across that super OLine we all love to pontificate over.

I think that the best player of this draft will be Lockette, who Pete has already said comes in as both our KO and Punt returner and then becomes the next Bobby Engram or better. This kid may have Steve Smith type receiving talent as far as going over the middle and getting to the right spot. Bobby was sooo good at that.
I could see him replacing Kearse in his second year if he plays in the NFL as good as his tape from college.

The rest of them.. I just don't know, but not as much as I feel about Lockette. I do not feel that Clark will be a star for at least 3 years, like Irvin, but he won't wash out, either. If he's in on the 'first year' typical rotation, he'll only see action on 20% of the plays + special teams. He will also have to beat out Cassius Marsh, who I really liked as a Rookie last year before blowing out his knee.

We can all hope one of the CB's becomes that 'one' we're looking for as it sure didn't seem we ended the year in a very good position past Sherman.

They were probably looking at Lockett's ability to return punts. Strong has never returned a punt and only returned 3 KO's in his college career. That's one area of our game that has not been addressed since Tate and Harvin departed. I'm OK with the Lockett selection and feel it might be the best pick in our draft. With his punt and kick return ability, he has a chance to step in and contribute immediately. I would have preferred a taller WR but we did address the lack of a big target this offseason with the acquisition of Jimmy Graham.

Tyler Lockett brings the big play back to Special Teams - and maybe WR.
When Richardson gets healthy, I suspect we will see height and speed with our receivers with Lockett, Richardson, and Matthews as WRs and Graham as a TE.
That's not a bad mix. You could throw Baldwin in there instead of one of the WRs, too for his dependability and rapport with Wilson.

If Matthews does stick, we will have seen our WR corps transformed pretty quickly.
That is, if our OL can pass block long enough for the plays to develop.
