It appears he wants 20 mil a year for 5 years and the FO does not want to pay anything close to that.

I think it is so stupid not to sign him right now. Give him a 6 year 120 million dollar deal. Franchise QBs are hard to find; I might argue that we have NEVER had one. WTF?

The negotiation dance is just starting.
Both sides are stepping on the others feet at this point and this song will last longer than "in a gadda da vida".

I'd have to know more about this guy's sources to get myself worked up about this report. It still ain't training camp yet.

Great stuff. From the article:

The problem with this taking time: It leaves an information vacuum during a time in the NFL calendar when we are four months from real games. Heck, there isn’t even a Seahawks’ mandatory minicamp at which Wilson is expected to be slinging passes for another month. And in today’s world of sound bites, clicks and immediate gratification, such vacuums get filled with varying degrees of inaccurate information. Because it’s such a high-profile player on the two-time defending NFC champions, the inaccurate info flies more than footballs do from now until training camp begins in July.

So relax — if you can. These things take time.

Perfect advice. All this teeth gnashing is so useless this early in the offseason.

I'll give Pete the final word:

“Whatever happens, happens. But we will work it out and make it a great deal and have him here forever.”

I've been one of the disbelievers of the national media hype. National Media has usually been wrong when it comes to the Seahawks since PC/JS came. Now, there is some truth coming into focus. We all know the "Russell Years" It's been a nice ride, but If I had to make a choice this second to which story holds the most truth ... the tipping point is Russell's tweets. I'm sorry, but maybe you could try to blow off one or two, but there is no way that he wouldn't have come forward by now to say that those AREN'T directed toward JS. Those are bold statements being made by Russell and not so veiled threats.

I'll take 3 more years, but it's now looking more and more that exactly what we were all worried about is actually coming true. The "I" is now far more important then the "WE" and the players are going public to show it. It all started with Marshawn getting his... now it's Russell, Irvin, Bennett and I'm sure others we haven't heard from.
And, why haven't we heard anything about a new contract with Swezzy and Wags among others.

A lot of people have said that when Russell came due, we would lose a lot more then we all thought. Wags is top 3 ML. Can we afford him for 4 years?

Dude unless you can say for a fact they are directed towards the FO you really have nothing. Wilson has been making tweets like that his whole career. He has said nothing that can be without a doubt directed at the FO. Further more nothing he has said or done says the I is more important than WE. You have no clue what has really been offered, no clue what he really wants. You are acting just like the media you know nothing so you are just making it up. So give it a break

Anthony, I don't know any more then you do. Don't shoot me, I'm not the one who is the messenger. I'm on your side. I hope it's all a mirage and that it will all work out. I'm sure Russell will explain that those were about his ex-wife or something, but I've been a follower of Russell and I don't remember anything that comes close to those words.
He's a God fearing, world loving young man with very, very high aspirations and a unusual non-football manager and 'team' of advisers. He's also already one of the highest grossing players for outside income. Not bad for the 31st highest paid starting QB in the NFL. Nothing would surprise me anymore.

I've been reading Russell's tweets and I haven't seen anything that rises to the level of consternation y'all are displaying. I think it's a matter of context applied by the reader much more so than the writer.

It's not like the FO isn't doing anything right now.
I'm sure they are evaluating their roster and the picks/UFAs they have in minicamp as well as other teams rosters to see who might be let go and could help us.
It's probably the busiest time of year for those people other than pre draft work.
I would guess they would have a date in mind before deciding their next move regarding Wilson and both he and Wagners status will play out in the fullness of time.

I don't believe $20M will "bust the cap", and I do believe that's the low end of the ballpark we're looking at. I do think it'll be a high guarantee with a big bonus and cap friendly (at least relatively so) for the first couple years with opportunities down the road for Russ to renegotiate to help free up future money once he's already banked a fair sum.

I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted more than Joe Flacco money - at least in guarantees.
After all, like Flacco he has won a Super Bowl and unlike Flacco, with better play calling he should have won two.
Considering it's only Wilson, Lynch and now perhaps Graham as Offensive threats, his value is even greater.
Basically that's just what Super Bowl winning QBs make nowadays.
Even if it is the Defense that carries the team.

Define enough? Offering him 10 mil a year would be a monumental slap in the face. Any fan that would be upset with him signing for $20+ mil a year doesn't understand the landscape of contracts in the NFL. I agree with Bob completely 20 mil is the floor for him not the ceiling. IMO 22 is more likely. 20 mil does not bust the cap any more than 10 mil a year for lynch, 14 a year for Sherm or 10 mil a year for ET. 20 mil is what you pay for a premier QB in this league and you don't let them go when you have one. Of course signing him to that contract will alter the structure of your teams cap, right now we are spending about 16 mil more per year on D then on O and that will change with Wilson's contract as it will go much closer to 50/50 (when Wags signs). The FO has a plan and they know exactly what it will take to sign him. Their job is to get him to sign for as little as is acceptable (they are hoping for closer to 20 mil) and his agents job is to get him signed for as much as possible (probably closer to 25 mil). Combine that with the fact that the team is trying to extend him, i.e. keep his 1.5 mil base for next year, while his camp is trying to get his contract redone, i.e. get him his 20 mil next year and you have a long negation. Again, I wouldn't be worried about this much at all right now. If we are still talking about this negotiation into next season then I would start to worry a little. Have to use the F-tag next off-season then I would get real worried, but I really don't see that happening.

Deleted because of format issues.

Edit: trying it again.

Here's Flacco's contract numbers for comparison from Spotrac:
"Joe Flacco signed a 6 year, $120,600,000 contract with the Baltimore Ravens, including a $29,000,000 signing bonus, $29,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $20,100,000. In 2015, Flacco will earn a base salary of $4,000,000 and a signing bonus of $7,000,000. Flacco has a cap hit of $14,550,000 while his dead money value is $36,400,000."

2013 Base Salary $1,000,000 Signing Bonus $5,800,000
2014 Base Salary $6,000,000 Signing Bonus $5,800,000 Option Bonus $3,000,000
2015 Base Salary $4,000,000 Signing Bonus $5,800,000 Option Bonus $4,750,000
2016 Base Salary $18,000,000 Signing Bonus $5,800,000 Option Bonus $4,750,000
2017 Base Salary $20,600,000 Signing Bonus $5,800,000 Option Bonus $4,750,000
2018 Base Salary $20,000,000 No Signing Bonus Option Bonus $4,750,000

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/joe-flacco/

Naturally there will be 2 or 3 years of CAP hikes that will increase the contract demands.

Tannehill reportedly just signed a 6 year $96,000,000 contract with $21,500,000 guaranteed.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... t-signing/

This should put some perspective into what we will expect to pay for a SB winning QB.

Tannehill's contract really isn't that bad. It's basically a 6 year 95 mil contract, which is almost 16 mil/year, with 45 guaranteed. This doesn't increase RW's value at all. If he would have signed for 20 mil a year then it would be alarming.

I think that's the remaining two years of his rookie deal plus 4 years (6 total @ 96 m) --- I heard it was through 2020, too. Does the NFL not count the 2 existing years for an 'extension'?

Tannehill's contract might not be totally relevant to Wilson, but it does start to narrow the parameters and it looks like if the stories are correct that our FO's latest offer is around $18 million per year, it's no wonder Wilsons camp hasn't responded.
There are some options like more guaranteed money (maybe combined with a longer contract) that could lower the cost, but he's going to be expensive any way we look at it.

Again Tannehills contract doesn't change much for the hawks or Wilson. A 4 year 80 mil extension was never going to get it done. For Wilson that would equate to a 5 year 81.5 mil deal, or 16.5 mil/year which is way under value for a guy who is going to get 20 mil a year. A 4 year 94 mil extension might not even get it done as that's only 19 mil/yr but it would be much closer to what it's going to take for wilson

Exactly this is essentially a 6 year 96 mil/yr deal. The 4 year 77 mil dollar deal is new money. The other 2 years are the last year of his rookie deal and the first round 5th year option.

the question of course then is... how much more is Russell worth? Tannehill is not quite 50% wins, with a lower QBR, probably 10% of the rushing yards and no ring.
Damn, Russell should be 25m a year... no wonder the team is contemplating the next 2 years on a Franchise Tag basis...

You can add in plays in the AFC, better Wr corps, better oline, offense built for him. Tannehill signing should get the FO to rethink their starting offer, or it will show us they believe that any QB would do. We will see.

And I would say "Exactly, this is essentially a 4 year $77M deal, the other two years already axist under his current contract".

The difference is if you include the existing portion it's a $16M/year deal but in reality it's a $19.25M/year deal. Russ is gonna cost us north of $20m/year in new money at least.

Well the obvious comment is if you had the talent and capability to QB an NFL team to the Superbowl then someone would. But since you don't then there is no need to worry about an open hand coming your way....

I had thought much earlier that if the Seahawks could get Russell on a 5 or 6 year contract at a $20 million per year amount then it would be a bargain. I have a feeling his agent is asking for around $25 million average long term.

So, does this mean that it is official? The Seahawk F/O has been low balling R.W. ??? Does Pete really believe T-jack could have done just as good as Russell??? Is Pete smoking crack?

If They hadn't of wasted the money they gave to Pussy Harvin and Cyndi Rice they would have had the money to pay Wilson!
