I think everyone who follows the Hawks agrees that the OL has been the Hawks' biggest need for a few years. Losing Unger and Carp doesn't help. (Losing Carp normally wouldn't be a loss, but he's being replaced by guys who couldn't unseat him last year.) I'm pretty sure we're all worried about that.

T-Jack is one of the best backup QBs in the league. I'm happy to have him back.

Howdy Nose guy.

I'm not concerned about our QB situation right now. Or even this year really.

If we haven't signed Russ by training camp I'll be both surprised and concerned (the latter more for next year than this), but right now all this fit that's hitting the shan is mostly made up. It's one guy speculating and the next guy reporting that speculation as news.

Talk to me in August about our QB situation.

I'm with Cbob on this one, the only difference in opinions being that I'd move back my concern to the start of the regular season in September. At that point it would become a serious distraction.

c_hawkbob maybe its just me but I have never seen the it factor from TJ. He is a place holder who can win a game or two but it would come from the whole team not just the QB position. I want us never to see TJ in a game so the point is moot. Definitly need more good prime grade A beef along the Oline maybe in FA.

But have the starting QBs in this league don't have the "it" factor. If TJ had it, he'd be starting for someone. Be happy that the Hawks' backup can win a game or two.

I heard RW wants to be the highest paid QB. Is this true or just BS.

Your guess is just as good as anyone else's. I sure hope not. I don't want to see Russell Wilson become the Seahawk's version of Alex Rodríguez.

By the way, I'm glad to see you posting again, my friend!

I read a recent interview that cited Russell as saying he wanted to be in Seattle for "a long, long time." So yes, I'll wait. But I have to admit that even though I realize it's all speculation and reporters selling copy, it's still very unnerving to read.

RW has also said more recently that although he wants to be in Seattle and hopes to be in Seattle he has "had to move around before". He cited the move from NC to Wisconsin as an example. On the flip side he has said he will not hold out and has been a leader in offseason workouts so that dispenses with all the "selfish and greedy" talk. I think he would play his guts out for 1.5 million this year, he really would. But if he does Seattle will never sign him to a long term deal. He will find a way out.

You don't have to hold out in order to be selfish and greedy. Alex Rodriguez never held out, and I consider him to be one of the more selfish and greediest athletes ever to have played for a PNW team.

Do you think RW is selfish and greedy?

You need to separate selfish and greedy.

If someone is asking above their value it may indicate being greedy (though at this point it's still just negotiations, everybody starts farther away from their actual target than they expect to settle for, on both sides of any such negotiation) or it may indicate an agent that has misjudged the market. In this case it's to early to make that determination.

But selfish? Holing out, to the detriment of the team or other players on the team, is the only thing you can really point to as being selfish. Even then there are to many other thing to consider to say selfishness was at the root of it.

Many people here called Walt selfish and greedey during his many hold outs, but in retrospect does that seem to be accurate now?

And Russ is nowhere near holding out and has said he won't. Call him greedy if you must this early in the game, but not selfish.

Great post and then add in we really have no clue what is really being asked and what is really being offered.

I didn't say that anyone that holds out is either selfish or greedy. I said that you don't have to hold out to be considered as such. Additionally, I did not call Russell selfish or greedy. But I reserve the right to do so if I don't like the outcome of the negotiations he's involved in.

Walt was an aberration. I don't know if I've ever seen a player able to hold out of multiple training camps then each time step in right from the get go and perform at an All Pro level, so his holdouts didn't hurt the team. But no way Russell or any other quarterback would be able to hold out of a training camp and return in the same manner Big Walt did.

And I'm disagreeing, I think it's out of line to call anyone selfish for anything short of holing out, and even then it may not be fair.

Percy Harvin never held out. Would you say that he's not selfish?

Point taken.

Selfishness on the field is a bit of a different thing, but still ... walking off the field, or refusing to take the field because things aren't going the way you want them to is indeed selfish.

Agreed. I was speaking in a general sense.

What would bother me most IF Russell refused a very generous contract offer that still preserved our ability to compete and instead decided to sell himself to the highest bidder wouldn't be selfishness as much as it would be disloyalty. Russell owes a lot to this team, to his coaches and general manager, and to his teammates. He wouldn't be in the position he is now without them.

But we just have to wait and see. I refuse to believe that Russell would ever lower himself to that level.

See I don't think Russ owes us a thing. I think his play and his leadership have repaid any debt he may have owed us many times over. We as a team have benefited every bit as much from his play elite level play at dime store prices as he has benefited from our giving him his early shot.

His greatness would have made itself evident sooner or later no matter who took him and he'd still be in line for a big contract either now or next year. Meanwhile, would we have had this same level of success without him?

I'm not saying we owe him more than he owes us, I'm saying the situation has been mutually beneficial and we move forward as a great team negotiating with it's most important player.

We already know Philly wanted him with he next pick after we got him, so he was getting his shot, and we know that is all he needs.

Lets put this to rest, with a below avg Wr and Oline play here is an analysis of what Rws passing efficiency is worth in wins compared to an AVG QB

http://www.sharpfootballanalysis.com/bl ... /04/page/3

that is 5.73 games you take 5 games away from us each year we miss the playoffs period.

Oh, I agree, which is why I think we should be giving Russell every penny that we possibly can afford and still remain competitive. He should be paid within the top 2 or 3 QB's in the league IMO, perhaps even higher. The only quarterback under 30 that is anywhere close to his worth is Luck. I'm not asking for some huge home town discount. The man deserves to be paid amongst the best.

But if he shows me that his sole objective is making the absolute maximum amount of money he possibly can, turns down an Aaron Rodgers-style offer and goes out and signs for some obscene record shattering amount with some perennial doormat like Jacksonville or Cleveland, then I'd say that he's being disingenuous and disrespectful of his coaches, teammates, and fans to abandon us and what we've built for nothing more than the Almighty dollar. It's what irked me so much about ARod when he pulled his shenanigans.

But until that day comes, I'll continue to give him the benefit of the doubt. He's earned my respect, and I won't dump on him one day earlier.

It's not really new information, it's just the most recent sound bites from both sides of the most important conversation taking place in our little corner of the world ...

"We love Russell and we want him back playing for us forever. There’s a lot of work being done. It’s underway right now and maybe it happens, I don’t know. We’re hoping for it."
-- Pete Carroll st the Humanitarian of the year awards Tuesday

A day after Carroll's remarks, Wilson reiterated that he isn't worried about the situation, telling ESPN's Hannah Storm at the 2015 ESPYS that:

"It'll all work out. I love Seattle, it's a great city," said Wilson, who's also hosting tonight's Kids' Choice Sports Awards. "I'm going to play my butt off every day. That's all I know, and we'll see what happens."

So there it is, the latest modest bit of encouragement.
