This just tells me they are real confident that they will re-sign him again before the deadline.

Or they can use it on someone else if negotiations go down to the wire.

33-35 for the year?

That's pretty much shut down as I can remember.

Some of those situations were game winners as well. The dude deserves his payday even if it is going to be just 2 million.
At least now he has money to put away for a couple of years at a time and hopefully have 10 million in the bank by the time he retires.

I'm not sure who else we'd slap the FT on. As we discussed earlier, it's unlikely that anyone offers Bennett FT type money. Don't know who else we'd use it on.

What was thinking of if they got down to almost a contract for Bennett and time was running short, they could have tagged him - but they said they aren't going to.

1) Glad that they didn't tag Hauschka, and I hope it's because it won't be necessary to keep him in Seattle.

2) I hope they don't use it on anybody, and that is with few exceptions a blanket statement. In general, the use of the tag means that the FO wasn't able to get deals done with players that they want. Ideally, that almost never happens. If the FO wants them, they lock 'em up with a contract. If not, trade them or let them walk. A tagged player is almost always an overpaid player. There are some exceptions, like if you want a guy to make a SB run, and he doesn't want to sign for a year and you don't want him beyond that year, then the tag would work. But it's a terrible way to build a team, and I hope the FO doesn't need to use it.

Don't worry about FTing kickers, in the grand scheme of things it is one of the smartest ways to handle the tag, as it costs little ( compared to other positions) and when a team has a top kicker, it is important to hold onto them. I would prefer to work out a deal, but won't sweat a 2 million dollar kicker tag, if that is what it takes to keep one of the most accurate kickers in the NFL here. Odds are a new contract will be around that total anyway, and it isn't like Seattle hasn't done it before ( twice actually). Much rather FT a kicker at 2 million, than a DE at 11.5 or a receiver at 12 or a QB at 18 etc. Cheap tag, that has little to no long term ramifications.

Our entire Special Teams were fantastic last year.
I keep forgetting how good we are in ALL phases of the game.

Maybe we could Transition Tag Hauschka? We all know how well the last time we used that tag worked out. :P

With that one sentence you explained the main reason not to tag a player.

For every 1 underpaid tagged player there are probably 10 overpaid players.

It's amazing that the NFL can come up with a system that manages to overpay the players and yet STILL piss players off, although in Hauschka's case I don't think he would object to it....

That has to be the most overlooked aspect of our team. It's embarrassing for people like ourselves that think we follow our team as closely as we do not to even mention it. I can't remember a single thread dedicated to the play of our special teams. How many return yards did Jon Ryan and our punt coverage team give up?

About the only time we talked about special teams is when they decided to put Turbin back there returning kickoffs or when Harvin returns one kickoff 50 yards...thanks to a huge hole you could drive a truck through.

I think there were less than 100 yards returned against the punt team in 19 games and something like 25 yards came against the Rams.
It was ridiculously low in any event.

Keep forgetting about that stat. It is truly remarkable.
