Hawks vs. Jets

Early game, 10am PT start. It used to be that we played poorly in the Eastern Time Zone. It was referred to as the East Coast Jinx. I never believed it was as much of a factor as others did, that it had more to do with teams being relatively better back then than they have been recently. The Jets are coming off their bye week, so they've had plenty of time to prepare and get healthy. Aaron Rodgers is a ghost of his former self, doesn't manage the pocket as well as he used to.

I get the impression that we've turned the corner, that our defense, finally healthy, is starting to feel their oats.

Hawks 24, J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets 10.

I hope you’re right but we’ve regularly played down to the opposition so to me it could be a nail biter with the Jets defense being able to stifle most teams on any given game. Their DTs are real good while our IOL is not.

Maybe Grubb has a blind spot as Pete seemed to get some kind of run game regardless of the quality of our O-line. But Pete was really committed to the run.

How often do you see a D-lineman run back a 92 yard pick six? I can't remember seeing that myself, though I know it must have happened.

A lot of penalties negated big plays for the Jets, some where warranted, some were borderline, but it does feel like we got a cheap win. However, I will take it and Leonard Williams is a man possessed out there, playing like Aaron Donald.

This will probably go down as the worst special teams performance in Seahawk's history in my book. I can't recall a game where the kick coverage was awful, the returns were awful, the protection on the PAT was awful. It's a damn miracle Myers were able to get those two long FGs off.

There aren't many teams in the league the Hawks would have been able to beat playing that poorly. Fortunately, they were playing a shitty Jets team that shot it's own foot over and over and over....and over and over and over and over and OVER...and over...

I don’t know why they keep calling run plays on short yardage. We haven’t been able to get any push on the OL for at least a decade. Any win is good but this wasn’t a good win.
I hope all the injuries are just minor and players will be able to play next week.

I forgot to ask everyone here, but be honest how did you feel at the time when Myers were kicking those long field goals? I can't lie, I was expecting disaster to occur on each kick.

Or how about the special teams melt downs? Back to back turnovers, give up a kickoff return for a TD?

I've seen all that before. I can't recall seeing a huge D-lineman run 92 yards. Big Cat is 290 lbs. Running 92 yards for a TD is pretty crazy.

I wasn't comfortable with anything at any point in the game. I kept wondering to myself "how are we going to F this one up?"

If you're referring to the holder Dickson being injured, I wasn't worried about FG attempts like I was about possible punting situations. We went for it...and made it...once on 4th and 6 where we otherwise would have punted, and it turned out to be the difference in the game as we kicked a FG on that drive. That's another situation where Lady Luck was shining on us.

We can't complain about our luck. In addition to getting a free 3 points because our punter was injured, we got bailed out by the Jets with penalties a bunch in that game. The Jets drew 12 flags, we had just 5.

There's not much we can take away from that game. Obviously, our special teams were horrible, our defense gave up way too much yardage on 3rd/4th and long, Geno didn't look good at all, our running game sucked especially in short yardage...but we won. Put that one behind us.

The Cards lost today, so we have a one game lead in our division going into Glendale next weekend. I'm making my annual trip to Las Vegas next week, so at least I can wear my colors with some degree of pride. I'm not as optimistic about the rest of the season as I was before this game. There's no way we're going to get anywhere if we don't improve our short yardage game. it's been a problem all season.

There is a positive in this game, and it's the defense. The defense won this game. Yes in the first quarter they did give up a 80 yard TD drive. On the ensuing KO we fumbled the return and put the Jets at the 27, and yes the defense gave up another TD on a short field, but after that drive, they clamped the Jets down.

They held the offense to 2 TDS

Held the Jets Passing to 185 yards
Held the Jets Rushing to 89 yards

Had the big Pick 6, and blanked them the entire 2nd half. I think it's clear our defense is our biggest strength and gives me hope we clinch this division. It still wont be easy, and our offense didn't play great, but they didn't play bad. The special teams was the massive failure in this game.

Now we need to draft a stud QB and a stud guard and/or center, then we may be highly competitive.

JSN seems to have taken Tyler Lockett's spot already and may be our number one receiver at this point.

I would so love to get a stud QB while JSN and DK are in their prime who can truly use the short and long game with these two receivers. We're not able to use D.K. moonshot speed and skills enough. JSN is better than Lockett taking nothing away from Lockett. That kid is amazing.

Sure, the defense looked awesome, just as it has for the past 3 games. But we're not going anywhere unless we can improve our running game, especially in short yardage. The defense isn't good enough to do it alone. We've had two straight games with pick 6's. We can't count on the defense to score points.

Yeah, Metcalf had another disappointing game. He was non-existent in the first half, didn't make a single catch. For the game, he was targeted 9 times and came up with just 4 of them. On one reception, he bobbled it, which caused him to come up short of a first down, and on another, he failed to turn up field and get the extra yard he needed for a first down. At one point, he comes out of the game with what appeared to be a serious leg injury then suddenly bolts onto the field like Superman out of a phone booth as if nothing happened.

This week, Metcalf had 4 catches for 66 yards, no TD's. Last week, he had 4 catches for 59 yards, no TD's. He hasn't scored a TD since Week 7 against the Falcons. He hasn't had a 100-yard receiving game since Week 4 vs. the Lions. Whether it's our scheme, if he has a nagging injury, or whatever, he's not producing. And we're thinking of giving him a market setting contract next season.

DK has never had great hands. Heck he fumbled back to back weeks earlier this season. However, if he isn't catching passes he is still a threat to have on the field. Our offense is much better with him on the field, and defenses have to bracket him when he is out there, which at at times draws a corner and a deep safety and this is freeing up one on ones with JSN, and hence why we are seeing the emergence of JSN. DK has the ability to take the top off on every play, so having him out there whether he catches 3 balls or 9 it's enough to affect the defense. Plus he put a nasty block early on that resulted on a TD drive.

I agree I would like to see DK make the necessary plays when we need him to step up, but his presence out there is opening the game up for JSN.
