As of today we don't know the order of the final 4 teams but that doesn't affect us.

Well if I was playing GM, if for some freak reason Will Campbell from LSU falls to us. He would be a can't miss pick. Yes he is a tackle, but can kick down to guard. Excelled in heavy zone blocking schemes. IMO he is best OL on the board, kick him down to guard and he will truck guys out of the stadium

There are some players that could help us along the OL but this list shows that there are a number of teams needing the same like SF, Indy, and the Bears just to name 3 but most of the first 17 who don’t need a QB could use an upgrade along the OL.

My favorite is Tyler Booker a pure LG from Alabama who’s a real people mover and has an attitude.
However it all depends on the new OC and whether he wants a quicker or bigger OL. I hope he wants the bigger dirtbags.

Yeah, I want some big uglies, too. Everyone complains about Geno's red zone problems, but we couldn't run the ball down there, either. I want an OL like Philly's with a big, physical QB like Hurts, Jackson, or Allen that can get a yard or two when you need it.

At #18, we have the lowest draft slot of any team that did not make the playoffs.

It almost certainly wouldn't have made any difference at all had we lost that last game vs. the Rams. At the most, it would have only yielded one slot higher, #17.

Had we lost, we would have finished with a 9-8 record, tied with the Bengals for the 17th/18th pick. Everyone else with a higher pick has a W/L record of 8-9 or worse. Since we didn't play the Bengals and since they are in a different conference, the tiebreaker goes to strength of victory (SOV). The team with the worse SOV gets the higher pick in the first round, the theory being that the team with the lower SOV is the weaker team. When a draft slot is determined by a tiebreaker, it will alternate throughout the draft, with the team that lost the tiebreaker getting the higher pick in the 2nd round, the team that won the tiebreaker gets the higher pick in the 3rd round, and so on.

We finished with a SOV of .424, substantially higher than the Bengals .314. I haven't worked out what our SOV would have been had we lost to the Rams, but since the Rams were 10-7, we can assume that changing one game out of 10 victories wouldn't have lowered the SOV by the .111, a full 10% decrease in our SOV, necessary for us to get that 17th pick.

That's one of the reasons why I don't like looking at potential draft slotting in that last week. As there was in our last game vs. the Rams, there may be no benefit whatsoever in losing the last game, so why rob yourself and your team of the psychological benefit of winning vs. losing?

We should get 3 comp picks this season, giving us a total of 9 picks overall. That's some pretty decent capital should we want to move up.

But in years past when he traded down, he didn't have very many draft picks. In 2021, for example, he had just 3. It used to be that he would burn his draft picks on rent-a-players, but he hasn't been doing that lately. He had 10 picks in 2023 and 7 last year and didn't trade down, so with 9 picks this season, I'd be surprised if he traded down.

A few times he’s also moved down then moved back up if a player they rated high was still there.
But 3 extra picks could help depending on which rounds they are assigned.
A quick look showed only 2 picks total in rounds 4 & 5

I have been reading some rumors, again just rumors, but some sites are suggesting that Riq Woolen is all but done in the Mike Macdonald system. Riq wasn't a Mike Macdonald type of CB to begin with, but he may be gone and they would use their 1st round pick on a Corner to work along with Spoon. Not sure if that is an area of major need, but if Riq is gone it would certainly fit a position of need.

It's a shame because I have seen the highs and lows with Riq, but he has now been benched twice from two different Defensive Head Coaches at separate times for his performance. Maybe he will never be a a solid tackler.

Woolen is frustrating to watch because he has some good games and some bad games and the consistency isn’t there. He was very good his first year but it’s almost like his success went to his head or he was heavily influenced by Adams and his ‘business decisions’. It’s almost like he’s lost the hunger to become the best he can be and maybe a trade would be in his best interest and if he doesn’t fit MacDonalds system, even more reason to move on. He has all of the physical tools, though so it would be too bad.

There was one game, I believe the first Cardinals game, when Woolen was obviously loafing on his pursuit of a ball carrier when his own teammates got on him. It's not going to hurt my feelings one bit if we part ways with him.

I expect there will be a lot of hard decisions this off-season. Looking forward to it! Riq is just not him and I imagine Mike sees the same. I don’t, however, want a cornerback as our first pick, but that’s months away

He has a Cap hit of $5.7 Million but if traded a Dead Cap hit of only $83,000 and save $5.623M. It's the last year of his Rookie contract.
So you are right with so much potential, some difficult decisions have to be made.
