Not sure why JS went this way. There were a number of other QB’s available for less $. Drew is getting $5MM, I would have taken Minshew for $1.2MM

Maybe its because Lock is a known quantity. And remember, he pulled one game out of the hat for use two seasons ago while filling in for Geno.

I can just picture Kubiak watching the Green Bay game from last year and saying to JS "uh, this isn't going to work, this Howell fella is terrible"
I doubt Howell is on the roster week 1. Hopefully, they can peddle him for a 2026 7th rnd pick.

Yes, I'm thinking Howell will be gone by the time the NFL draft rolls around. I had expected better from him but actually, we got a very small sample on Howell.

Certainly he looked horrible in the GB game. But in his defense, Ryan Grubb did nothing but hang him out to dry with something like 11 straight passes, empty back field, no screens - basically just let the GB defense tee off on him (and with our OL that was pretty easy). He had some decent games with the Commanders, we'll see if they give him a chance to stick.

I was a little surprised at this move given how enamored JS has been with Sam Howell. It would seem unlikely that he'd sour on him in such a brief appearance last season. But there's also lots of rumors flying around that we'll be drafting a QB, so who knows what the QB room will look like once the season starts in September.

My issue is that UNC QBs never have produced a solid QB ever. With limited production UNC QBs get drafted high, and they have hardly ever produced. Mitch Trubisky barely played much college QB, and was picked after the Bears gave the farm up for him. Sam Howell, was plugged in as a true Madden NFL QB year prior to coming over to us, just slinging it everywhere with no run game under Eric B. Drake Maye, I guess it's soon to tell, but I think he is a bust.

Anyhow Drew comes to us very cheap, and if I preferred a backup QB I would use him over Sam Howell. Howell, just looked so unprepared to come into a game last season. I be happy to cast Howell off and keep Drew.
