The referenced article seems to indicate that he may be available late in the 1st, although after watching those two gif's that are embedded in the article, I'm inclined to agree with you.

The problem is that even though the WR class is really deep, there are only two really big WRs with first round grades, Evans and Benjamin. He could last based on his inconsistancy of play but I have to think that with so many teams looking for a WR, more than one will be looking for a big one.

I've seen a number of mocks with us getting him. Not that they mean much but with the number of WRs on the market this year he might still be there.
He certainly has the special qualities Carroll and gang look for with his height, "freakish wingspan", and large hands.
The only knock (if it can be considered a negative) is his limited playing in College as he's a Red Shirt Sophomore, but he could be a huge target in the Red Zone.

I hear the Pats are sniffing around him, too as a target for Brady. He would replace the size that Hernandez brought, even if he's not a TE.

There is a lot of speculation about where he might go. I've heard Hawks too, but also Eagles, Saints (?), Panthers, Stealers, and Jets have all been mentioned. Latest article out on him is at 240lbs, he is too heavy to be a wide receiver. At first I thought of Mike Williams, but then I also thought of the knock on Wilson's height and threw it out the window.

It's possible, but for it to happen, teams will really have to fight against the board.
Meaning, teams will have to really make a LOT of reaches to fill needs for him to drop to us, because regardless of who else would be there at #32, if he's still there, he's EASILY the BPA!
Again, it could happen, but teams will really be fighting the board if it does, which obviously would be great for us!

I hear ya, but the draft is at best unpredictable as nobody knows the boards of other teams.
There might be 3 others selected before him, and if other teams consider him a risk because he's just a RS Sophomore they might consider him too much of a risk and pass for a WR later.
Then there's the teams that need QBs, DL, and all other positions.
But it's the draft and you may be spot on.

Sounds like an interesting prospect at WR. But at the end of the day, I have to continue with my forum spam in saying that we need to focus on OL before anything else.

I'm hoping that our F.O., for as good as they've been scouting late round talent, can Finally select somebody who's worth a damn to protect RW. It's beyond a no-brainer for our team needs. I get that you don't want to force the issue, either, but we really are in need of nailing something down OL wise, and I think it starts on day 1.

That said, I'm also perfectly fine in letting go of the guys we've released, because they weren't going to help us much anyway, even after being in the league a couple of years.

In fact, the hunch here is that Pete and John did this, knowing that they are pretty much locked in to a couple of OL prospects that should be there when we draft at #32. Who these players are, I don't know, lol. Ask Carroll or Schneider:)

It just makes sense that either they believe they already have the replacements on the roster, or that they're gonna go with a linemen, period. I guess if they feel they have what they want already (Bailey, Bowie?) then maybe they do take this WR. But I doubt that's the case. We're due to hit on a good OL prospect. Trust me:)

The rap on Benjamin is that he doesn't have great hands. I've kinda gotten used to sticky fingered wide receivers, an expectation instilled in me when Largent played for us and almost caused my early demise when I had to suffer through the likes of Koren Robinson, Darrell Jackson, and Jeremay Stevens. Fortunately, guys like Tate, Rice, and Baldwin have been very good hands receivers, and I haven't had to worry about my blood pressure or throwing bricks through the TV at a dropped pass these past couple of years. I don't know if I could handle another klutz on our team.
