Debatable, but I'm not sure he's at that level with this franchise. He *was* a longtime Hawk, though, and it's nice to see him coming back to retire as one of us.

He only played for Seattle although he went to the Jags TC but was cut.
Hometown guy who played at WSU, it's fitting he gets to retire as a SeaHawk.

For the Holmgren teams I'd put Trufant behind:

Walt
Hutch
Hass
Tatupu
Alexander
Strong

Even then he is aided by being a local guy. So without that handicap who knows how he's thought of. Sherman dwarfs Trufant as a player so it's pretty much love for a local guy who was good but not great for his career. I look forward to him raising the flag at some point.

Marcus Trufant went about his business so quietly, football and otherwise, that it's fitting his sign-and-retire contract would go nearly unnoticed.

He's almost a throwback in terms of how classy he conducted himself while playing here. His 1st five seasons were pretty productive, especially 2007 when he had 7 INT's. After that, it dwindled for the most part.

I think I'll remember him as much for his mellow demeanor as anything else. He wasn't a shutdown corner by any stretch, but he did put his best foot forward during his long career as Seahawk.

I wish him all the best.

You know, you are correct. I looked up the salary, and revised upwards my estimate. He made over 60million for his career. Then I took out fed taxes lucky for him he was with the Jags as well so no income tax state. Say 60 million salary only gross between Seattle and Jaguars, take off a third 40 million. Now add in expenses dues, charity, millions to family and hopefully investments retirement etc.

That means he has cash 15 to 20 million in the bank, add in his investments/retirements then it should be close to 30 million total portfolio. (Assuming he gave 5-10 million away to his family or charity as some of us may do). Not bad at all. And as you said bro, he has endorsement/advertising revenue to boot. Good for him!

I think it depends on how the laws are written. I know that when Portland was lobbying for an MLB franchise, they were using the potential income tax collection on the salaries of MLB players, including those from visiting teams, to justify the building of a new stadium.

Here's another (loosely) related question, that I bring up because I was recently stuck behind 3 separate Oregon residents in line ahead of me at Costco:

Why is it that Oregon (no sales tax) residents are excused from paying sales tax in Washington (where there *is* sales tax) when they come here to shop?

It seems odd to me that anyone's particular advantages where they live are 'portable'. Is it just a courtesy thing between WA and OR that doesn't necessarily exist if they go elsewhere?

Good question I never thought of that angle. Never even heard of it before. Thanks for the link.

I know there was talk about it a number of years ago.
The States position was the athletes were working in those states during the games they played so they should pay that States income taxes.
I believe they equated it with performers who go on stage for a concert, but I might be mistaken.

Must be the NFL athletes exception, cause when I went out of state to work a couple of weeks outside of Seattle back in the day, no one made me file in their state. Of course, I wasn't making millions either. For us normal folks IRS rules as to residency apply, but I bet it's a bit different for them.

I don't know what came of the proposals. Maybe some were implemented, or maybe they just faded away, but there was talk about it.
