Effect of Sherm's signing an even bigger help for team?

I was just listening to something everyone else probably already has listened to, so if this has been covered already, just link me:

Reading about Peterson's negotiations with ARI, he says he feels he's better than Sherm and should be paid as such.

Considering this, I think this might work in the Hawks' favor in a couple ways:

1. It's another player talking sh*t about Sherm. Always good.
2. It's another corner that may get more $$ than Sherm. Good, too, both for kicking Zona's cap in the nads and for lighting that "disrespected" fire under Sherm again.

Thoughts?

Sherm does not need any more motivation, but certainly this can't hurt.

And definitely, the guy talking sht about him will be mentioned during ESPN/misall. interviews. You can bank on it.

IMO, Peterson is full of s***, lol. He knows he isn't as good as Sherman - certainly not as clutch - yet chooses tot run his mouth as a negotiation ploy, among other things.

Can't hurt to have a Division rival having to spend large gobs of cash on one player.
Maybe Peterson thinks he's worth more because he also occasionally returns punts and has played on Offense.

He also says he's better than Sherm because he's put on the other team's best WR at all times.

The only validity I see in that point, if true, is that it's gotta wear him out, mentally and physically.

I see no reason why his objective stats (INTs, passes defensed, etc) should be lower than Sherm's based on that, though.

Zona is jealous of the Hawks/49ers rivalry and want to get in on the action.

Yup, looks as if they need a "cause" to fight for. Makes sense.

Always been confused by that argument, if a player is following the "best" receiver, and is hence targeted more, IMHO his defensed passes, and interceptions should by all accounts increase, not drop down. The stats Sherman has put up are on par with HOF type corners over the last two seasons, all while being the LEAST targeted corner in the league. Meaning the percentage of times he has not only exceeded ( passes defensed) he has excelled ( interceptions). However people want to make excuses, that remains an undeniable FACT. He isn't just shutting down mediocre QB's, he is OWNING QB's named Brady, Rodgers, Manning, Romo, Kaepernik etc, hell those stats don't come close to even reflecting his true impact on games, how many tips have resulted in picks by other players on this team, I can count three from just last season....

Ultimately, at some point, I hope that people get past the mouth, to appreciate how truly special this once in a generation talent is. So sick of the stupidity of that argument, and the foolishness of people expecting him to demand that his coach changes the way they run their defense, to quiet the people that are lying to themselves. In short, as Sherman has said, NUMBERS DON'T LIE.

That doesn't indicate that anyone is better or worse than anyone else. It's Pete's philosophy not to flip flop his corners so Sherman will line up on the offensive right all the time regardless of who he's matched up against.
