As a situational player he could help.
I wonder what that means for Hill, Williams or one of the other younger DL?

We're a little thin on run stopping DL's, and Williams could be useful in short yardage situations.

I haven't heard much about Jesse Williams, how his rehab is progressing. I wonder of this signing means that they've given up on JW.

Good pickup. He won't have to play much and can chip in as needed.

Just more competition, no different than the Winfield signing last season, if he can bring it still, he'll be part of the team, if not, he'll find out that experience and past don't mean much.

At worse if he is half as good as he was 5 years ago, he will help with depth, at best he may give us his best year and try to win a ring for himself.
I am still depressed about the Madden Curse however.

The will definitely have to make a decision as to whether to go with experience for a year or maybe 2 or do they go with youth who might turn into a player that would stick for 4 or 5 years?
I would hate to lose a good young player because of a Veteran in his last year - unless there is a vast difference in ability.

I think they may see his versatility as a rotational back up as a huge plus. He could back up the nose, the 3, and possibly the 5. I also think he could be a starter in the interior on the 4 man pass rush. If he can fulfill even two of these roles that would make him quite valuable.

Philosophically, I think we ignore age and go with who ever gives us the best chance to win this year. We are no longer in a rebuild mode, we're in a win-now mode.

I like the signing of Williams.

He's older, but a change of scenery - and jersey - could be just what the (NFL) doctor ordered.

Kevin Williams had a very nice year last year. He's not done just yet! It's hard to imagine a better signing than this one for the D-Line rotation, if what you want is an inexpensive, yet solid run stuffer, who knows his job extremely well, and still has the ability to play at a pro bowl level so long as you limit his snaps.
