Aloha all,

For the first time, my fiancé and I are finally going to be in Washington. I've been a DIEHARD Seahawk fan since 1984 (I converted my fiancé from the Bungles 3 years ago). Funny how I became a fan, and it may irritate some of you.
Growing up in Hawaii, I followed a few different teams and was actually (gulp) a Stealers fan during their "Dynasty" run in the 70s. My absolute favorite player was Franco Harris (because of the "Immaculate Reception") and for those of you who have been following the Seahawks for at least as long as I, you should know why I started following the Seahawks.

ANYway.... my fiancé's son is getting married. He and his soon to be wife live in Sequim and we'll be there for a few days and then go back to Seattle for 4 more days. I'm disappointed that they chose the date they did because it is right in between what was mini-camp and soon to be training camp. I do still want to go to C-Link and hope to at least get a chance to at least drive by the VMAC.
I'm hoping you folks can suggest a few places "Seahawk" to go and do while we're there.

There is a pro shop downtown at 410 Pike St. You can also get century link tour tickets there. Tours during July are daily at 10:30am, 12:30pm & 2:30pm. No tours July 13, 19, 27-28, 30-31.

As far as the v-mac its on southeast side of Lake Washington. 12 Seahawks Way, Renton, WA 98056 ·(425) 203-8000. As far as I know it is not open to the public. Several years ago now a fellow poster here named hawksista had traveled north from her home in California to Seattle at about the same time of the year. The fearless sista drove in to the employee paring lot with her cohort and proceeded to visit with several Seahawks as they entered or exited the building. She had quite a great time as I recall. My suspicion is since it was pre training camp there were probably very few people in the building. The players that would normally be there at that time would only be those getting treatment for injuries or perhaps local guys doing business activities. Now I am not recommending you crash the place, because I have no doubt had I done it part of my chin would still be embedded in a patrol hood, but in the case of sista it worked out rather well. Hopefully sista will reply as well if she can add to this.

Welcome, fellow Seahawk brother!

Normally I'd recommend getting out on the water when you're in Seattle this time of year, but being that you're from Hawaii you've seen some of the most beautiful waters in the world, so Seattle might be a bit of a let down, but nevertheless, I'd recommend getting out on the Sound or the Straight. You don't have to take a tour, a ride on one of the ferries offers some good viewing experiences. Driving from Sequim to Seattle almost requires a ferry ride anyway.

Since your in Sequim, I would consider taking the ferry (I think they call it the Red Ball Express) and do a day trip to Victoria, BC. If you decide on that option, a can't miss is Butchart Gardens a few miles north of Victoria. Lots of photo opportunities if you want to commemorate a marriage.

Since you're already on the peninsula, a trip to Olympic National Park is a must do, especially the Hoh rain forest and/or a drive up to Hurricane Ridge if weather allows. The ideal time weather wise for a trip to the rain forest is from now until mid August. After that, it's a crap shoot.

Surely you didn't become a fan because Franco finished out his career as a Seahawk? LOL...Anyway, welcome to the shack. You'll find that the regular posters here are knowledgable, personable, & possess a great sense of humor. You'll also witness some passionate discussions that are substantiated by facts, not just brainless drivel spewed forth by mouth breathers. I've learned so much since I've tapped into the endless stream of educated opinions put out there by our regulars, & I'm blessed to be a part of this family. Again, welcome brah!

Not that I hadn't already swallowed the hook line and sinker on the Seahawks but them bringing in Mike Curtis in the veteran allocation draft was the biggest thing in the world for me at the time, if i hadn't been local it's what would have made me a Seahawks fan for life!

Why not indeed? I can't think of any reason to become a Seattle Seahawks fan that is not legit. It does not matter what brought you aboard, only that you share our passion & love for our team. GO HAWKS!

Curtis was one of my favorite players. Remember the time he clocked some fan that had ran onto the field to steal the game ball?

I don't remember him doing it as a Hawk.

The Museum of Flight at Boeing Field is one of my favorite museums. It's about a 10 minute drive from downtown Seattle. I was also impressed with Fort Wordon, near Port Townsend, on the way to Seattle. Port Townsend itself is a neat little town, too.

But personally, I'd go for taking the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria. Way too many photo ops to pass up if the occasion is a wedding. Except for the surroundings, Seattle isn't all that different from any other large American city. Victoria is quite different, especially in terms of architecture.

Space Needle - Get something to eat at the restaurant and the ride up is free - Lunch or late lunch is the best value.

Waterfront - walk on a ferry and ride it around the sound - Look for "Bainbridge Island" or "Bremerton" - 45 minute trip each way - great way to see some sights and ride around the water for cheap.

Waterfront - Walk the piers for tourist type stuff - ride the new big wheel - then walk another few blocks to Pike Place Market to see - in person - the one and only World Famous Salmon Tossing.

Pretty much wherever you go in these places you will see a lot of people wearing Seahawk's jersey's and T Shirts.

Let me first apologize for bringing this off topic thread to the board.

We brought our passports to do the Port Angeles ferry to Victoria but ran out of time in Sequim.

Definitely made the C-Link tour which was awesome awesome awesome. You all will likely laugh knowing that that is the first and only Pro Football stadium I've ever been to. It's so different, yet obviously familiar in person. It was chicken skin walking out to the field by the same path the players take every home game. If you live there, and haven't taken the tour, you need to.

Also made the underground tour which was very fascinating, and the EMP which was also very cool (Mr. Allen sure has his fingerprints all over the city). Rode the big wheel and ate seafood everyday. Tried to make the Needle, but the line was soooo long and we were already exhausted from walking all over the place.

I felt that prior to the trip I had mapped out the city well enough so we could mostly walk, but there is something I need to be mindful of when mapping out our next adventure. Google and Yahoo maps don't advise on the topography. We stayed at the Inn at Virginia Mason and everything and place we needed to go was on a 7%-18% grade. BRUTAL. Will know better next time. After a few days of that, we got acquainted with the bus and light rail real quick.

By the way, there's a simple rhyme that will help you navigate in downtown Seattle. Jesus Christ Made Seattle Under Protest

Going from south to north, the east west streets run as follows: Jefferson/James, Cherry/Columbia, Marion/Madison, Seneca/Spring, Union/University, and Pike and Pine.

Remembering it has helped me find my downtown hotel several times when I was operating under impaired judgment.

It was all those hilly streets that killed me. Although the walk down Spring helped work up an appetite before all that wonderful Dungeness crab, chowder and crusty sour dough bread. Then the walk back up helped burn off all those calories.
We're definitely going back again!
