Here's the graphic that most impressed me about Big Walt:
In a thirteen-year career with the Seahawks – the only team for which he ever played – over 180 games, roughly 9,000 plays, and protecting nine different starting quarterbacks, Walter Jones was called for holding penalties…NINE TIMES. He allowed a grand career total of TWENTY-THREE quarterback sacksWalt got called for holding about as many times as Steve Largent dropped a pass.
A pretty good read in the link where I found the graphic...

That's awe-inspiring.

9 holding calls in a HoF career, many OT's would call getting 9 holding calls in a season great. 23 sacks given up, again, many OT's would say giving up less than a sack a game over the course of two seasons would be great and yet for Big Walt that was his total for a whole career. That's what puts players like him in the HoF in the first place.
I mean, when they needed a prototype OT for the movie Blindside they picked Walter Jones. Ironically, Michael Morer had to be moved to RT because he couldn't handle being an LT in the NFL.
WTG Walt, I can't wait to watch your induction.

1 holding call approximately every 400 plays is something we grew accustomed to and most of us didn't appreciate his play until later in his career.
He's a tough dude, too because he couldn't take pain killers like the rest of the league yet he got out there and performed at the highest level every game for the better part of 13 years.

My pop was a tremendous Walter Jones fan. I always thought it curious because of all of the missed pre-season camps and heck, he's just an O lineman, dad.
My pop edified me of the error in my judgement. Walt might have held out but he got franchised, and to my dad that was important. Out of all the higher profile players a team could choose for the tag they picked the LT because he was arguably the best player in the game. And besides, as my dad liked to point out, he wasn't exactly sitting around eating pizza while the other guys sweated it out. He was pushing trucks around with nothing but his own brute force.
No more deserving dude to go into the Hall. And seeing those stats, holy jeebus, it's darn near unfathomable that an O lineman of Walter's ability played that cleanly.

Holmgren once said Walt was the best player he ever coached - and that's saying a lot considering he coached Montana and Rice.
To me, that's all that needs be said.

Not that it makes a great deal of difference, but I think that Holmgren's comments about Walt was that he was the greatest offensive player he ever coached, which still covers a lot of ground, considering he's coached guys like Favre, Montana, and Steve Young. I'm not sure which defensive player he might have been thinking about that he had coached, perhaps Reggie White?

It would have been interesting to watch those 2 going against each other on a regular basis.
What a great match up that would have been.

He was a lock for the HOF long before he retired. It's awesome to see his day finally come.

What puzzles me is that his name is not in the ring of honor, does anyone know why? He is after all only the third player to be drafted and played his whole career hall of famer in Seahawks history

It's a foregone conclusion- we already retired his number. He's only been retired, what, 5 years? Has anyone gone in more quickly?

He's already in the ROH. He's been there since 2010.

So embarrassing. How did I not know that?!?
I'll turn in my 12 card and you guys can decide when it's appropriate to reissue.

So happy he said what I have felt for years and years. Kenny Easily BELONGS in that building! Thanks Mr Jones for telling it like it is

HC: We're going to make you turn in your 12th man card unless you can learn how to correctly spell Kenny

A good speech by Walter that came from the heart.
He even managed to thank Mora Jr. and John "Deep" Firesz during his time at the podium. Says a lot about his character.
Congratulations, Mr. Jones, your a bronzed Seahawk now, and rightfully so.
