Lane out indefinitely

Postby mykc14 » Fri Sep 05, 2014 6:18 pm

Just read on ESPN that Pete said Lane is out indefinitely and could miss a 'significant' amount of time. This is a big blow, IMO. We are already thin at corner, especially at the slot position. Here's to hoping it is sooner rather than later.

This will be an under the radar blow to the team for those that don't follow the Seahawks. JL20 is one of the best gunners in the league, he often will come up with plays to either catch the ball or knock it down inside the 10 on punts. Or be in the returners face forcing him to make a fair catch. A huge part of why we gave up something like less than 20 yards total last year on punt returns, a crazy stat.

Add on that he now has added responsibility in the backfield with Browner and Thurmond gone, and this one will sting a bit.

Dare I say "Next man up"? But seriously, that is some real bad news. Get well Lane.

Not sure, it seemed to me the trade with the Colts was for a player with a similar skill set, to bad the guy will be rushed into action so soon ( though he did get snaps in the GB game) could be a blow, so we'll see.... To many guys tearing their sacks ( Lane, Farwell) let's hope it ends here.

This es no bueno. Part of the strength of our team was depth. Lane was like 4th on the depth chart last year and higher this year w/ loss of browner, Thurmond + Simon is out. Thin at position. VERY THIN! Fingers crossed.

Champ Bailey at the veteran minimum?
I know its not really the Hawks MO. THey like to cultivate their own talent and usually go young rather than just apply a band aid, but maybe?

He is one that crossed my mind, but has he played the slot in his career? I just don't see him being an option where we really need a guy. What's Winfield doing these days?

DeShawn Shead is also on the roster.
He plays all of the DB positions but is listed on the Team Roster as a CB.
No doubt the depth took a bit of a hit this year, but we might be able to scrape by.

I like his versatility but I don't really remember him playing the slot. The real issue now is depth at that 3rd CB position as I don't think we really have anybody on the roster besides Burley ( I think thats his name #28) and the splits before and after he entered the game for Lane aren't encouraging. At the same time he is young and very new to the system so hopefully he will improve in the next few weeks. I don't think it will be as big a deal at home because we get a more constant pass rush, but on the road it could be a bit of an issue. I just have memories of Tru getting burned at that position and sort of thinking it was an achilles heel of our team 2 years ago and don't want to see it happen again, especially with the QB's we have to face in the next few weeks.

A rash of injuries, especially to key players (ET???) is the only thing that would keep our Seahawks from repeating.

I have been predicting (ad nauseum) that our Hawks are not only going to repeat (hard enough) but they are also going to run the table and go 19-0.

Looking at their schedule it looks impossible. Their first 8 games are hard enough but their 2nd. 8 are down right brutal, especially with the stretch of playing SF on Thursday night after a tough home game against Arizona followed by a 10 AM K/O @ Philly then another game against SF then down to Arizona. This stretch will more than likely determine who wins the division and who even makes it into the play offs. Like I said, down right brutal, especially with their bye week after their 3rd. game.

The pundits couldn't talk enough about how tough the 40 Whiners first 3 games are, well, GB, @ San Diego, then Denver is pretty darn tough. All three were play off teams last season and GB and Denver not only won their divisions but are favorites with many to represent their respective conferences in the next Super Bowl.

Can you imagine IF the Seahawks do run the table and go 19-0 ?? The history would be off the charts. First of all, as great as the Dolphins 17-0 was they had a relatively soft schedule that season. They do get huge props for playing much of the season with out Bob Gresie. But hey, their back up had started Super Bowls 3 & 4 two seasons before so he was no slouch. Oh, and Shula could have played Gresie late in the regular season and in the play offs but waited until the championship game.

Should I be correct and our Hawks run the table in the regular season alone they will have defeated every team in the AFC West, NFC East, both the NFC North and NFC South division winners plus every team in the NFC West (the toughest division in the NFL) twice! Then defeated who ever survived in the divisional round and NFC Championship round. By the time they play New England, Indianapolis, or Denver in the SB it would be a mere formality.

Anyway, should they pull all of that off who could then deny that our Seattle Seahawks are the best team in the NFL, EVER. Oh well, I am sure their would still be people who would say that they cheated and other non sense. So, in order to REALLY have respect they will simply have to do what has NEVER been done and that is to win 3 Super Bowls in a row!!! The only team to win 3 NFL Championships in a row was the 1965-67 Green Bay Packers. Is there any doubt they would have defeated the 1965 AFL Champion??? Well, actually that AFL team was pretty darn good so we will never know. Vince Lombardi reminded his team before their NFL Championship game against the Dallas Cowboys (the Ice Bowl) that they had had the chance to win 3 NFL Championships in a row a few years earlier but had not got the job done. well. we ALL know how it all turned out, don't we?

The Packers' 5 Championships in 7 years has been forever compared to the Steelers' 4 Super Bowl wins in 6 years, and of course the 4 Super Bowl wins of the Joe Montana era. Some, of course from the Bay area throw in the Super Bowl win with Steve Young but, let's be serious, doing it over 7 or 6 years is a lot more impressive than doing it over more than a decade. In New England they like to point to their 3 SB wins out of 4 years (same as Dallas of the Triplets era) and also being the era of Free Agency and they may have had a point if not for Spy-Gate and two Super Bowl losses to the N.Y. Giants.

So, like I say, our Seahawks are in a great position to make NFL HISTORY because of their talent, their depth, and their youth not to mention their desire to be great.

So, how did they get to this point? John Schneider and more importantly PETE CARROLL!!!

Yeah, that's at least the next 7 games, best case scenario.
