Now John Abraham is on a leave of absence and leaning towards retirement. The Cards only edge rusher. Their LB corps has been decimated.

Yeah, so much for anyone but the Niner's being our main division rivals ...

I thought that this was a thread about Jake Long going on the IR and out for the season.

While this is a blow, Abraham had missed all of TC battling substance abuse so I don't think he was going to contribute to their defense the he might have if he was younger. Where they are going to miss him is in the locker room and his leadership.

I have always considered San Fran. to be our #1 rivals followed by Arizona with St. Louis on their heals bringing up the rear.

I am not going o gloat at the misfortunes of our fellow NFC West teams because those misfortunes could happen to us as well and nobody in other cities is going to care.

Yep. Injuries can derail the season of the best team in the league just as fast as any other (well, maybe negligibly less if depth differences are significant).

It's Chris Long of the Rams that's on IR, not Jake (the OT).

This isn't about gloating. It's just news. And losing Abraham is a big deal whether he was out of training camp or not. They have no one else who can rush the passer from the edge. And with him and Dockett both out, Calais Campbell is really the only guy you have to worry about blocking. Say hello to triple teams.

And if they can't get a pass rush it won't matter how good Peterson and Cromartie are. No one can cover forever.

FTR, I didn't mean to imply I thought you were. I was just saying when I see news like this, I get that "By the grace of God go we" sort of feeling.

Sorry I used the word "gloat", that was a bit strong and unnecessary. You are right, it is just information. I guess I was just a little hyper sensitive to the injury bug striking our team because that is the one factor that the team(other than being fit) has no control over and could derail repeating.

It is bad enough that our defensive back field depth has taken a hit but I am worried that Cristine Michael is getting hurt and not being available too often. I understand he battled the injury bug in college.

It's only Week 2, guys. Who knows if some previously unknown player or two off the Cards and/or Rams won't rise to the occasion?

Can I raise my hand now, or do I have to wait until week 12 or so? ;)

LOL!

If the Rams and Cards get to Week 5 and are 1-4 or 0-5, you can raise your hand. :)
