I know absolutely nothing about this beyond what's stated there, but an interesting question to me is how differently this will play with the Rice situation as a backdrop.

It will be interesting to see what comes of this. It is sort of surprising to see him connected to this at all if it is connected with his 2 year old son that died last year. Basically he had just found out he was the father and then the boyfriend of the child's mother beat and killed him. The only connection I could possible see would be if he knew the child was being beaten and then didn't do anything about it, which is hard to imagine because he had just found out he was the boys father 2 months prior to the incident.

So I just saw that this stems from a completely different situation. Something about spanking his child with at switch.

Entirely different situation..... still, he had to know better, why is this all coming to a head now? There are always things of this nature sprinkled around the league ( and life) but there sure seems to be an unusual amount popping up around the Rice incident.

I'm seeing pictures now that I hope are fake (or incorrectly attributed). It was much more than a spanking if not, and I'm not sure I'd call it *entirely* different if that's the case.

Not sure how an entirely different child, in an entirely different state, with an entirely different mother and an entirely different abuser, can be anything but entirely different but ok. The child lived, which is also, very, very different.

Regardless, you would think that Peterson would know better than this, especially considering what he just went through last year.

I think this could provide reasonable doubt in the minds of the adjudicators of the beating death case.

Its been reported AP has been deactivated. As for his abuse case I guess I was abused too as a child. My old man would whip my ass for being in the room and a tree branch was the weapon of choice more than once. I feel sad for this little boy. AP is a great player but hes not much of a man or a father.

Oh, sorry, HC- I thought you were talking about this situation vs Rice's.

My Dad left us looking like that, but I thought it was abusive then and I feel like it's abusive now.

Me to Bob, though I got the buckle of the belt to get those welts,( not to say it was a common occurance when I was young) but I remember feeling that way when I was young, which is why, I refused to do the same to my kids. Wish others were as clear on that. A four year old shouldn't have to experience this, no matter what IMHO. Big difference between a couple spankings with a hand, and teeing off on a kid.

Wow, he's also been deactivated, and he's going to Texas to turn himself in to be arrested. The indictment claims child abuse, but this will be very interesting to see where the courts/jury and us common people now draw the line between a parents right to discipline their child vs the "PC" squad, which now treats him as a villain because he drew blood and left bruises on multiple parts of his body, including his genitals, on a 4 year old. I think his beating up of the kid is over the top, but I didn't grow up in the backwoods of Texas where evidently it was OK. Maybe growing up Seattle was a different world.

The only part of this that is almost comical is AP's lawyer claiming that "AP spanked the child".... uh.... spanking, even in my days, and I've been 'spanked' many times, was never with a tree or a belt. It was an open palm on my butt. Period. The lawyer needs to be careful, or just admit that to be a little more strongly worded and what will become the crux of this case going forward.

All parents, grandparents, babysitters need to sit up and take notice. This is the new world order coming on.

This is the most depressing season in recent memory. Drug suspensions. Gun suspensions. Domestic abuse suspensions. Child abuse suspensions (or, soon to be). Wtf is wrong with these guys.

This is a pretty tough one, not nearly as clear as the Ray Rice incident, and I'm not exactly sure how to react to it. I can certainly sympathize with Adrian Peterson. As a child growing up, corporal punishment was very common, and the household that did not aggressively spank their children was the exception, and most parents used some sort of aid to inflict blows. Even the public schools routinely hacked wayward students. In junior high, you couldn't go a day without the halls echoing of some smart ass teenager getting his butt blistered.

But times have changed, and I can't condone the infliction of lasting injuries of anything more than a sore ass to a child. You have to know your limits. I'm not sure why AP felt he had to get a switch, as a man of his size and strength could easily deliver a large enough blow to the backside of a 4 year old. That part is inexcusable. I can't buy his excuse that his old man used similar methods on him. Two wrongs doesn't make a right.

AP probably deserves the benefit of the doubt in this case. He's been extremely cooperative, admitted his guilt, and is accepting his punishment. He probably would have that benefit of the doubt had it happened 6 months earlier, but due to the bungling of the Ray Rice incident, they've pretty much painted themselves into a corner.

Crazy, Greg Hardy just deactivated, so Rice, Hardy, and Peterson deactivated, one player still expected to play hmmmmm..... LOL above reproach continues to play a player that couldn't not do the one thing they couldn't forgive.....

The Niners are simply following the precedent they set last year when they refused to sit Aldon Smith when, after being drunk on his ass, wrapped his truck around a tree at 7 in the morning, yet he started that same weekend.
