Rivers

Phillip Rivers abused Seattle yesterday, the biggest beating absorbed by the legion of boom in quite a while. There was no shame in it though, they got carved up by a very talented QB.

I remember quite a spirited debate a few months back rating QB's and I saw Rivers as being a lot better QB than most in this forum. We were swerving into it on another thread so I thought Id throw it out as a topic. The guy has 32000 yards as a starter in 8 years and 6 games. His career QBR is 96. He has over a 2 to 1 TD to interception ratio. And in my opinion he is a fearless leader. He doesn't always play smart but he never plays scared. I remember him getting the team to the AFC Title game in Foxboro playing on a torn ACL. He basically had an immobilizer on his leg and played, winning a playoff game in the process. A couple of years earlier under Schottenheimer they were a couple of boneheaded penalties from the Super Bowl.

I think Rivers is a SB and a couple more productive seasons from receiving HOF consideration. For sure hes one of the best playing today IMO. Thoughts?

I weighed in on another thread that Rivers is Matt Hasselbeckish. I will go as far as saying that Matt could be viewed as Rivers lite. I like Rivers but he needs plenty around him to win.

I love Matty but I think Rivers is a tick above all around especially in the tough and leader qualities.Better stats too.

As For both those guys who knows what might have been if a couple games had gone the other way.

LOL. If you had to win ONE game, and could select any QB in the league, would it be Rivers? That is all you need to know. No sane person would, and honestly no sane person would select him probably in the top ten choices. Was going to link some video in response to your "never plays scared" but unfortunately the NFL no longer carries his "ah! Here Tampa just take it" interception from two years ago. If I had to choose in a win or go home game, Rivers would be FAR down that list, how many times has he fumbled a game away? And that is IN the last two seasons ( honestly I kept waiting for it to happen yesterday, EXPECTED it to be quite honest, as he DID the week before, and as he DID against KC, and Denver just a short time ago. He has had the same type of issues Romo has had closing out games, and I for one can't fathom the amount of love you are throwing his way based on the last five years of his career).

He does indeed deserve credit for his toughness, but the idea that he is "HOF" worthy is hilarious. SB does not change that, barring some sort of historically great couple seasons, the guy is a "solid" starter, nothing more.

I I had to win 1 game it would be Wilson. It sure wouldn't be gag artist Manning(Rivers has beaten him a couple of times in the postseason). I didn't say Rivers is HOF right now. I said he could be before hes done. I said hes one of the best in the league right now. As for him fumbling games away everybody does now and then. He fumbled away a win last week against the current NFC West leaders after staking his team to an 11 point lead. But hes averaged just under 4000 yards a season for his career to go along with an average of 28 TDs per season.Hes been to 5 pro bowls in 8 years as a starter. Hes a little more than average and most sane pundits have him in the top 10 currently so your wrong about that.

We can sit here as Hawks fans and cry in our spilled milk or we can give the man his due. I'm glad we wont play him again unless its in the Superbowl.

Rivers was clutch yesterday, but I've seen plenty of games where a lot of those same kind of passes end up in the defender's hands instead.

He's streaky, IMO, for the most part.

SD had a good gameplan and executed it very well yesterday.

Beyond that, they're a Jekyll and Hyde type of franchise. There always seems to be some kind of weirdness surrounding that group.

Zorn that's the gospel truth man. Hard to believe with Fouts and air Coryell and Kellen Winslow and now a guy maybe better and Brees and Rivers and LT Sproles etc shoot the list is long they have never hoisted a Lombardi. IMO the biggest mistake they ever made was firing Schottenheimer after a 14-2 Season that should have ended in a championship. As for Rivers streakiness I saw Favre throw 6 picks against the Rams in the playoffs. Its a small list of guys who haven't thrown some picks at bad moments.

Rivers career has been resurrected with McCoy as HC. I think we might see the good Rivers for a few more years now.

Rivers is a very good QB. It's a little early to talk HOF, but think back to that draft class. Who would you take between Eli, Ben or Phillip. I'd take Phillip given all the rest even. (Full disclosure, I think Ben is a dick-Mo)

Kiper had them all rated above 9 which was franchise. I don't like Rivers but he is a good QB. I like Tebow, but he is not a good QB. Man they are acting like it was the SB, or something.

Rivers played very well. He played well against us 4 years ago and would have won then had it not been for two Leon Washington KO returns for TD's.

San Diego utilized the hurry up offense very well, which prevented mass substitutions, and coupled with the excessive heat, was a big factor in our inability to get off the field (San Diego never punted until the 4th quarter).

Richard Sherman had one of his worst games, constantly getting beat inside.

Antonio Gates had an incredible game, making two spectacular catches with coverage draped all over him.

Even with all these factors present, we had a chance to win the game in the 4th quarter if we could have put together a TD drive with 3 minutes to go in the game.
