I'll Drink To That - Bud Maker Blasts NFL

Postby Bird Droppings » Tue Sep 16, 2014 1:04 pm

Wooie.
Something the NFL owners may pay attention to as they continue to circle around their crippled Commish .... who has made them a lot of money.

A lot of that lot has come from Anheuser-Busch, who make Bud, Bud Light and other thin beer.

This was the item in Pro Football Talk:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... -with-nfl/

Yes, Shack Ups, the Bud Makers are not happy with the incidents of conduct and how the Commish has dealt with Ray Rice, and the tunnels he faces now.

And if Bud is "disappointed, concerned, and dissatisfied", then some of the owners are going to immediately start to heat up like a can of beer that has been in the sun four hours at over 100 degrees.

Nike has pulled Adrian Peterson apparel from their Minneapolis store.

But, when Bud starts tossing out those kind of words, and futhering with "against the morals of their Company", than ... well .... then .... Wooie!!!

I despise all the alleged beers that Anheuser Busch makes. But I'm really happy to see them do this. Maybe the owners will start taking Goodell's mismanagment seriously.

Money talks.

Money just talked, you know the NFL listened.

Bad beer, Good message.

I was one of those slow to understand the call for Goodell's head. The more I read about it the more I'd like to see his head roll. Someone mentioned Condi Rice as an able candidate to replace Goodell; I'd second that.

Condi Rice makes so much sense for the NFL right now that it would almost be dumb not to make that move.

I agree, Kal. Condoleeza Rice makes sense on a number of levels.
First, she loves Football and has said it would be her dream job.
Second, being a woman it would make the owners look like they are not dinosaurs.
Third, she can reinforce the idea the NFL is serious about violence against women as her judgements might be accepted easier.
She's got some pretty good experience in pressure situations as well and seems comfortable in front of the media.

This Annheiser Bush statement might be the grease to slide Goodell out the door as stated above it's all about money.

I seriously doubt the present group of owners would select a woman to tell them what they should do.

Sorry, the generations haven't caught up to the clock, even if a two minute warning is showing.

Secondly, like nearly all politiicians, she has backstabbed and tommyhawked her way to her prestigious pinnacle.

And while a number of those who weren't too fond of her still wouldn't tackle a high cabinet appointee ... they were afraid to.

When she walks the highwire with no net in the private sector, they'll be using beanshooters or worse to bring her down.

Would it be a step forward to select her over a double dealing self-annointing righteous lawyer? Absolutely.

Maybe in another five to ten years.

But not when her constituents can't even pressure one amongst them to change the name of his team ... for the continued monetary flow all of them exist for.

Don't kid yourselves ... they will pick a hack, a yessis, a marketing guy who can keep the money rolling in by misdirection from disturbing issues.

Condi could be a powerful choice. She is familiar with the national stage and the 24 x 7 media business. She seems to be interested in football and she has experience working with powerful people with strong opinions. Her hiring could play well to many segments of the NFL fan and business base.

I only see one real problem. The NFL commissioner job is not a "fixxit" position. It's not a position that requires a brilliant strategist. The NFL has those people in lower positions. The NFL commissioner position is a national lightning rod that takes all of the damage that 32 different billionaires create in doing business. Nothing major changes in the NFL without a vote of the owners. The commissioner is expected to understand that will, direct it to the business, and recover from any negative consequences. Goddell has actually done this pretty well but currently his lightning rod is still glowing orange. The day he can't dissipate the energy is his last day on the job. A new lightning rod will be installed.

So my concern, does NFL ownership really want to be faced with firing Condi Rice down the line? Seems like it could hurt you as much as help you. Bring her in as a consultant, special executive, whatever you want to call it. But firing her would be a mine field.

Budweiser doesn't sell beer, they sell pseudo beer. Even when I used to like lagers, I couldn't stand Dishweiser. Give me my IPA.

I have a suspicion that rather than being interested in actually changing the behavior of NFL officials like Goodell that A-B is being opportunistic and taking advantage of an unusual nation wide issue finds that everyone on the same side of, ie domestic violence and child abuse. There hasn't been an issue like this since 9/11. So why not come out and take a stand that requires absolutely no courage and entails no risk whatsoever.

Connie Rice would be a horrible choice for Commish, at least from an owner's perspective. Like FC said, how in the hell are you ever going to be able to fire her if she screws up? It would be easier to fire the Pope.

I just so happen to prefer Busch Light over heavy lager, IPA's and the such. With that said, i agree with RD that they are just hoping on the bandwagon.

Well, I won't hold it against you. I actually have friends that sip on drinks with those little umbrellas in them, so I guess it wouldn't take too much of a subrogation of my standards to consider someone that drinks that girly beer a friend. But just remember this: John Wayne always drank his coffee black, his whiskey straight, and wouldn't be caught dead drinking a light beer..lol.

LOL, I hear ya, i just for some reason don't care much for other beer but i do like my whiskey straight and my coffee black but won't complain if there is a little milk in it, but not too much or you can drink it, just a splash.

BTW i am 37 and know well who he is, but the John Wayne motto is getting a little outdated for some of those who may wonder who the hell that guy is. ;) Most people (as a whole) have been girlied up(or dumbed down) and i myself cannot see how a lot of people, man or woman, drink those fruity drinks or flavored beers. My wish in life is that more people would "MAN" up and fend for themselves and fight for what is right for all not just themselves.

Yea, my examples are outdated, that's for sure. When we had our hearing tests and they showed me my chart that showed some slight hearing loss over a long period of time, I attributed it to too much Grand Funk. The technician's jaw dropped to her knees and I had to explain what I thought was a perfectly obvious comment.
