Goodell's Press Conference

Postby kalibane » Fri Sep 19, 2014 12:46 pm

15 minutes in so far and it can be summed up in two sentences:

"My bad... we'll get it right next time, trust me." "Also here is a bunch of money for women's rights groups".

Goodell is like a sleazy politician. He rallies the troops to battle for a solution to a problem he had a large part in causing. Its all window dressing to keep his 20 million dollar salary rolling in and allow the good old boys whose rear end hes kissing to keep their monarchy intact and profitable.

20m (I think it's more) a year salary and this is what 31 billionaire owners + a group of GB Shareholders get for their money? Wow, I could do better.

He needs to have his PR team practice with him lot better. He didn't seem prepared for some pretty basic 'throw it out there' questions.
He needs to hire Clinton's PR Whitehouse team. He was good.

Goodell should of waited until after the ESPN report. His management team and the Raven's are all about to be flushed down a conspiracy toilet.

Didn't seem like he said much of anything to me to be quite honest. Came across to much like "sorry and sh%t, we'll try hard nect time" 45 minutes of fluff, dancing and sucking of really anything real pertinent to any of the current situations, or the handling of the Rice situation.

Pathetic, this guy should run for office, he sounds just like Bush or Obama.

He did give us an explanation of why he changed his punishment in the Rice situation, saying that what Rice told him was "inconsistent" with what later appeared in the video. I'm not sure if I buy that or not, as it would depend on what he means by "inconsistent". If "inconsistent" means "lied", then I can accept that reasoning. If "inconsistent" means "he didn't give us all the details", then probably not. It still doesn't explain how TMZ can acquire an elevator video and the NFL cannot, didn't address the controversy about the police claiming they gave them the video 5 months ago, and so on. That's the stuff I wanted answers to, not this head shrinker crapola about establishing committees and setting up seminars for the players.

But I don't see him resigning and I don't see the owners dumping him, at least not at this point. The NFL still has their popularity to buoy them. So long as viewers keep watching, and all indications are that the game is as popular as ever, the advertising dollars will continue to roll in and the owners won't feel compelled to make drastic changes. Despite their veiled threats, Budweiser isn't dropping them, and neither are any of the other big sponsors. The only thing Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder respond to is money, or the lack of it.

I'm just surprised how badly Goodell has botched this whole thing from the get go.

His m.o. seemed more to really go to any length to get evidence, that he'd want to see all evidence from the start before making a decision. Until now, he's been relatively careful with this stuff.

I'll be surprised if he's booted - unless something else comes up with the Rice case.

Either way, his credibility has taken a major shot, and from here on out his judgement is gonna be under intense scrutiny.
