Big loss! Interesting to see what the Hawks do as far as carrying him on the active roster or declaring him out for the season. Hopefully Lane is close to returning...

This is a big loss, especially his blocking. Depending on how they designate Miller, it might be wise to look for a replacement. Isn't there an old HOF TE who might want a ring out there somewhere? He still looks like he's in good shape. Could the possibility of a ring lure him back onto the field?

Unfortunately they can't use the IR-Return designation again. They only get to use it once per season, although I also hope lane returns soon.

I wonder what that procedure was?? It didn't seem to effect his play greatly. Tough call, if he will be back in six weeks, I think they carry him, if it's longer than that, I think you have to seriously consider shutting him down and shifting through practice squads, or dust off a guy that was in camp but didn't make the cut ( like Beckham if he is still wandering the streets).... bummer.

Only out 5-6 weeks per Rapoport. Manageable!

Yeah, if he had to miss a 4 or 5 games this season this would be the stretch to miss. No games in the NFL are 'easy' but these next few weeks are as easy as it gets for us this season.

Blount/ESPN/Mortensen/"NFL Insider" (one of them- I can't tell) is a little rosier on the outlook:
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11613 ... api_publicTwo games is a number bounced around in there, but I think it's clear later it's all speculation. We'll know more when we hear what was done.

Maybe just "cleaning up" the joint?? Kind of weird.

Who said that (I didn't see it in any of the write-ups I've read)?
It would be odd to hear that phrase used for an ankle procedure- "cleaning up" usually refers to meniscus tears in the knee where they go in and get the stray pieces removed and/or cut out.

Hope it's sooner rather than later for his return, obviously.
We'll be OK.

Burton,
Sorry if my term wasn't to your liking, I was referring to a minor procedure for bone spurs or something similar. Not a medical doctor,if it is a two week recovery time ( though that is entirely speculation) than I was thinking it was a minor procedure to "clean up thel joint" that's all. I apologise if that threw you.

Confirmed, "removal of "loose bodies"" sounds like surgery to "clean up" the ankle to me.

??
HC, for gawd's sake, I just hadn't seen that phrase in the couple articles I'd read and I thought it was significant if they'd used it. I liked it just fine (and in fact am happy to see it was accurate!) and it didn't "throw" me.

I don't think we'll lose a whole lot in the receiving area, but what I worry about is if Willson can come close to matching Miller's blocking as he a better pass blocker than either of our offensive tackles.
But the good news is that he's not out the entire season and that he'll be back for our stretch run. I'm not too concerned about not having him for games like the Skins, Cowboys, Giants, Raiders, et al. We have 5 of our 6 divisional games in the 2nd half of the season, and that's when we're really going to need him.
