I guess the last weeks 'JET sweep' failure got the team thinking.... and away he goes. Should make resigning RW and others a lot easier next off-season.

Should make Doug Baldwin and the two rookie receivers a little more involved in the O.

OMG no sugar coating it. This thing just went into the dumpster. Not saying Hawks cant win but this is a major issue, especially after leaving Tate out in the cold. It is the first major F up of PC and JS's tenure but its a doozy....

I'm dumbfounded. A conditional mid round pick. If it's a cap move it sure bears a striking resemblance to a tank job. Maybe this has been the plan all along. Fool the rest of the league that the offense is one thing and then change it to something else after the 5th game. Yeah, the other teams will never see that coming.

No Ian Furness was on 1080 here in Portland, he is saying that PH went south in a hurry. He wanted out and there is something majorly wrong here. You don't just trade a Percy Harvin, mid-season for nothing. Drugs? I don't know.

WTF?? Not understanding this move in the least. IF they were going to cut bait so quickly, you would think that Tate would have been a MUCH bigger priority. Simply makes little sense, from both a logistical standpoint, financial stand point, AND a pick compensation stand point..... They better be pretty damn sound on offense these next few weeks, or there is going to be a LOT of moaning and complaining...

Two teams passed on him.

hmm...
What kind of a teammate is he? Is he an A hole? Are they making cap room to pay Russ next year? WHATS GOING ON!!!

Check that!! I don't think it's the money. ... .. .
It's not a savings. They paid him the 12 mil signing bonus.. that's gone. his base is what, 5-7 mil? So the Jets pick up the rest. Has to be something about team dynamics or something. But at the same time, Lynch is getting old.. AAARGH!!!

Maybe they finally watch the same game I seen from Sunday where he had the ball for 6 times between passes and running and came up with a whopping +3 for the whole game....... against a mediocre passing and really bad running defense. And I guess ALL of those personality thing we heard about him when they traded him from minnesota were only half the truth. I doubt we will ever hear the truth about this one

Anger issues stretch all the way back to high school when he was suspended for same.

Contract is a wash in terms of a cap hit.

But ... he cost a first, a third, and a seventh.

Someone in viking land is saying w-h-e-w.

He didn't fit in, you all know people like this that comprise your working circle, and socail circle.

Move on.

He gone.

Seahawks receiving corps now nearing woeful...unless PC & JS have sifted this out for a couple weeks and have someone waiting in wings.

I would have thought if anybody could keep Harvin on the straight and narrow it would have been Carroll. If he can't do it, nobody can.

I can't imagine anger issues being the only culprit here or we might have gotten rid of Baldwin by now. Sadly, as Depaashaas mentioned, we will most likely never know the real reason Harvin was booted. It has to be very serious as we gave a king's ransom to acquire the guy just to let him go seemingly for free.

I'm not sure if this screwfest was worse or better than the Hutch fiasco.

It could help Hawks. RW will not have to force feed Harvin and you give more touches to Lynch. It is back to ball control, playaction.....that won you a SB.

But obviously, I hope that doesn't work. Hope RW struggles throwing to Marlin Moore, Kyle Williams and John Baldwin after the opposing D loads up to stop Gore - because that is the ewuivalent of what you got now. All of this was the genesis of our "one read" QB, who tucked and ran with no one open.

Maybe the storyline turns out different for RW though. Maybe you guys are right and he's the dominant player who will carry you. Hell, after watching it with Kaep I'll probably be on boards defending RW if/when he struggles.

I see 5-2 in two weeks. Most likely scenerio.

I read that RW was feeling a lot of pressure from Harvin to get him the ball more & it was making him uncomfortable...that had to be a major contributing factor. Team dynamics & harmony are very important to PC's system....remember how fast they jettisoned LenDale White? What exactly did we get for him, (Harvin)? I read here that it was a mid round pick, that's kinda vague. Anyone know the details?

Wow.

Well, that was quick.

As disappointing as this is, it's also something that obviously had to happen - and quickly given how little pick wise we'll get in return.

Silver (Seahawks) lining: Whatever distraction he brought is now gone. The team did fine without him a year ago, and for as spectacular he was in the SB - along with making some key plays vs SF in the CCG - we will still be legit without him. His stats were marginal this season anyway, along with the team under utilizing him, IMO, in terms of being an effective WR.

But his own demons cost him, and now he faces the real possibility of having his biggest meltdown ever in that Big (ROTTen) Apple with the Jets.

Absolutely he was. He will be better without Harvin. Hawks are a more scary team playing a prostyle O with no gimics. 49ers and Hawks should both scrap this read option crap permanently. Rams game could be a "get well" game for the entire O. Now I actually respect Uncle Pete for admitting another mistake and cutting bait. He made the right choice. Don't call me a trill for saying it! Lol.

He did make key plays. I was more or less attacking the theme from that game. He is still a very good QB.

Here was my back and fourth thought process when I first heard the news:

1) WTF are they doing?
2) Are the OL injuries worse than we think (among others)...hence salary cap?
3) Harvin is incredibly explosive and we paid big money.
3) Do they know something that we don't?
4) Percy was incredible last year, with his 2 games or so.
5) We made it to the playoffs without him, most likely would have won the SB without him.
6) But he would throw off the D.
7) One trick pony that changed our rhythm.

Something definitely happened in the locker room. Houshmandzadeh syndrome maybe?

I thought he was going to be the X-Factor this season, I was downright giddy about it, but it's obviously not working with the team. We did just fine without him last year, this might be a blessing in disguise.

Thanks for your efforts Percy...sorry it didn't work out.

I would have much rather been wrong. Harvin looked unstoppable in preseason and the Packer's game.

But at least I got my questions in the thread I started earlier this morning answered, as well as that mysterious way in which Harvin returned from hip surgery last Nov-Jan.

Correct me if I am wrong Zorn, but I thought Harvin missed the NFCCG last year? I think he got ruled after the concush against the Saints?

What I really want to know it what the cap hit for us is next year? My buddy said it will be $8 million in dead money, but I can't confirm this anywhere. I think he is wrong but I don't know the ins and outs of how that works.

Addition by subtraction in this case. And glad Pete and John bit the bullet now, they sure gave up a lot for him, and now admitted to making a mistake. They are not so stubborn as to keep something to save face (Holmgren?).

The WR corps does not look great at all, but it didn't last year either. It doesn't need to be, it just needs to do its job.

Lockette and Richardson will now get bigger roles, and I would assume Norwood will be thrown into the mix.

All in all, if the move was made, I have to like it. Pete and John have shown they know what they are doing for the most part.

I'm not going to complain about the FO trying to hit a Home Run when they traded for him, but it looks like they didn't do their homework before pulling the trigger - or maybe they thought their programme would keep him in check.

In any event, he might have been able to make it intolerable for Tate to stay, but when it becomes a choice between a temperamental WR and a franchise QB, the decision is easy.

I think we all 'know' the answer and it's somewhere in the locker room mix.

Doug Baldwin going public... RW having his worst game in a year... Pete showing negative emotion on the sidelines... it's in there.

The cap hit doesn't matter when the locker room is broke. I wasn't in the locker room, but you could see it coming. He has an ego larger than the team.
Works when you're winning, not so much when your're not.

Now we have to deal with 6 starters out for the division Ram's game, early start on Sunday. I don't think this is a good thing or the trip to Carolina after that. I hope I'm wrong.

I disagree 100%.
Reports are coming out from everywhere that the reason for this trade is that the same problems (HUGE anger issues), that got him moved from the Vikings, followed him here. A report came out that last year, he punched Golden Tate in the face, and that this year, his anger towards Russell Wilson, both on the field and off, (apparently he had a HUGE blow up aimed at Wilson) made the whole thing completely unworkable.

What coach/GM would trade their biggest offensive weapon, mid season, a year after winning the Super Bowl, for LESS than what they originally traded for him?
Answer: ONLY a coach/GM who are willing to swallow their pride for the GOOD OF THE TEAM, admit their mistakes and move on from them. ONLY Pete Carroll and John Schnieder have the cajones to do something like this!

The day we traded for Harvin I said it would be a disaster and the worst move in team history.

Anyone wanna argue against that now?

Not only did we trade all those picks and give him all that money, it caused us to let go of Tate.

Plus, Harvin has been GARBAGE for the Hawks. Total Garbage.

The Harvin trade IS/WAS the worst move in Seahawks history

Quote of the day!
Not one single leak, not one single media report before the trade was announced. That's AMAZING!
I'm actually more impressed with our front office right now, than ever before...I'm truly, awed and impressed by what they just did, keeping it in house all this time, (which tells us how loyal everyone in that office is!) and having the courage to make a trade this obviously HUGE mid season, a year after winning the Super Bowl. I'm absolutely blown away...

Obviously there is no way to know how this will all turn out in the end, but right now, my guess is that ten years from now, fans will look back and say that this trade was the moment that the Seahawks DYNASTY was truly born.
It was the moment when they went from being a team that won a Superbowl, to a team that was always competing for a championship, because the front office had the courage to do something they KNEW they'd take serious heat for, and the team rallied around them for doing the right thing. Also, it will help with the salary cap (no small thing BTW).
