Dumb question - I thought we had 4 sacks

I thought we got Newton 7 yards behind the line of scrimmage on their first drive, then Mebane had one & Bruve had 2. Isn't that 4? What am I missing? Was the 1st one determined that Cam was a runner so it was just a tackle for a loss? Am I misreading it?

First one was a QB draw I believe ( though the game stats the network put up called it a sack during the game).

So when it's a designed quarterback run and he gets stopped behind the LOS, it's not a sack. Hmmmmm - if I knew that, I forgot it. Chemo-brain lingers.

I didn't know that, either. So a QB sneak where he is caught behind the LoS is not a sack.
It makes sense in that case, but how do they know the intent of the play call.
What if there is a mixup in the play and the QB expects to hand off and nobody is there so he runs and is tackled - is that a sack?

Not sure they do know it until after the game. The network called it a sack during the game, but in the official stats it isn't. If I had to guess it would be something they judge based on how the lineman move, and whether receivers are running routes or attempting to block. Just a guess, but that would be my guess. The lineman in this case paused and then fired forward, and the receivers were blocking, not attempting to get separation.

I never heard them call it a sack in the game, I just assumed it was one since Cam got eaten up 7 yards behind the LOS. After having thought about it though, when a QB kneels, it does not count as a sack. Interesting - I guess you can teach an old dog a new trick.
