Do You Think Players Read This Forum?

Postby yoder » Wed Nov 20, 2024 7:45 pm

Since the PI days, we've been around for a while. Yes, traffic and members have slowed vs. the old P.I. days, which is fine by me. But damn, if I had a profession where there's an actual Forum dedicated to critiquing your job/team/yourself, I'd be looking around on the internet seeing what people have to say. Especially on a world stage.

Also wondering if it's allowed by the NFL for a player to post? Obviously they can't deny reading, right? I've found this regarding Social Media...

https://www.nfl.com/legal/social-media-rules

Yet nothing about a Forum, hence my question. Does a forum count as Social Media?

I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble, just being curious. Or, are we so small potatoes (and damn good potatoes) that we're not even noticed?

Sorry for the barrage of questions, but I know someone here knows more about this than I do.

Wow, a visit from the old man himself! Thanks for poking your head into here, bro!

I'm sure that there are a few NFL players that read opinion forums, but I doubt that any follow this one as we're so lightly trafficked. IMO most are probably following Twitter as that seems to be the predominant social media platform for expressing opinions, not only with sports but other news and information.

And yes, we are small potatoes, but that's how I like it. I'll go into other forums, create a post, and within an hour, there's 5 or 6 subsequent posts that bury mine and I get the sense that I'm talking to myself. I may not always like the responses I get, but I almost always get one. Plus, what we lack in quantity we make up for in quality. There are no cheerleaders in here. All are legitimate football fans (with the exception of Rambo, the class clown). And, we've developed a sense of community, or at least that's how I feel about it.

And speaking of a forum dedicated to critiquing your job. Back in the 80's, I was a shift supervisor of a crew of around 60-70 in a small-town (Moses Lake) food processing factory working 2nd shift, 3pm-11pm. After work, we'd all gather at the local watering hole, and guess what the most talked about topic was. I received much more feedback on my job performance, both positive and negative, in that forum than any football player could ever hope to gain on social media.

That would be interesting if they did.

I wouldn't be surprised if players were reading, they read a smaller forum like this as you're more likely to get some very real opinions by hardcore fans. The bigger forums have a lot of trolls, bandwagoners, and neophytes. A lot of stuff to fish through. On a forum this size, you can have some deeper discussions on the team without having the thread crushed by the volume of posters and posters taking more time to put thought into their posts.

I agree completely with your last two sentences, and it's the #1 reason why I like this place. The only troll we have in here is Rambo, and he's like the classroom stooge sitting in the corner wearing a dunce cap. I'm really glad that yoder hasn't banned that idiot as it's comical to think that he really believes he's goading someone when the truth of the matter is that we're all laughing at him. It's a politically incorrect term to use nowadays, but back when I was growing up, we used to call guys like him retards.

But back to the topic. I would be very surprised if any NFL players are monitoring this forum on a regular basis as the odds are so overwhelmingly against it. I don't think that have that much free time on their hands.
