So, kidnapping 50 children a day is AOK with you.

This is *precisely* why Trump's "fake news" accusations get so much traction and the MSM is about as popular as toe fungus. Lunatics like you bought their BS on this issue.

Next tell everyone about him calling immigrants "animals" and complete your descent into insanity.

I would rather he not be so public in his attacks on our intelligence community, but your point about their political objectivity is valid, especially when it comes to investigating a domestic political issue. Polls consistently show that government employees are much more likely to vote for a Democrat than they are a Republican as the R's are perceived as a threat to their jobs. It's almost impossible for them not to harbor a bias. I'd almost rather have a trusted ally, say like the Aussies, direct those departments when a partisan issue is being investigated.

Hell no. Foreign nations are not impartial at all. This whole Russian red herring crap is just the tip of the iceberg as to how much political corruption from foreign nations is going on here in both parties and all over. Fortunately for us, we influence other nations more than they do us. If they held trials for putting people in office in foreign nations, we be at the center of those trials all over the world. That's why these Trump is a Russian spy crap makes me laugh and laugh and laugh. It's ridiculous if you keep up with history, politics, and economics.

I've been following business on a daily basis for years. When I read how surprised Americans are at this whole Russian thing, I'm shocked they don't realize how much foreign powers interfere in our nation. How many deals they make. How often they exchange intelligence. How much influence they have over our policies and the billions we send worldwide. How many deals we make to sell them weapons, food, and other materials. How many campaign contributions originate from foreign companies as well as the deals we make with multinationals to help push access to foreign markets. We are the center of the world economy.

No one but us should look after us . I would rather see a citizen board created to look into this, but they would be so lost as to what to do that they would likely fail miserably. We are mostly an oligarchy now, somewhat beholden to our people. Voting is almost a non-factor at this point. What gets done in this nation is mostly done to support business. I guess I can't complain too much as that's been life for humans for time immemorial. Power moves the world. It always has and always will. If you can't obtain it, then you are subject to it.

We are lucky that we happened to live in a nation where the powerful had a dream of human liberty they built a foundation on. It really is quite a miracle that it occurred. I just read a story of a guy that grew up in Afghanistan. It sounded awful. He survived as humans do, but I felt lucky for having been born and raised here with the good and bad of it. Our bad isn't nearly as bad as other nations and our good is about as good as it can get in this world. It's good to be an American, even with Donald Trump as president.

I did say "almost". The problem we have is that the nation is so divided into different camps that it's difficult to find people that have a blank slate, and those that they could find would likely be so stupid that the wouldn't be able to find the Pacific Ocean on a map, which would be even worse. It's like trying to select an impartial jury in a high profile crime.

Riv, I left the intelligence agency in 1996 because it was being politicized then. The quiet route didn't work and now the only thing left is to take it public. The industry is pretty deep with politics and you are seeing that played out in the current events.

Note: it isn't between republicans and democrats, they only care about who they can control and it doesn't matter to them which party they belong to. That's what scares them the most about Trump, they can't buy him off and they can't blackmail him. The only thing left is to isolate him and make it to where he has no support around him. The only thing that scares them more is a popular uprising by the people (pitch forks and all). To get rid of the deep state, either Trump needs to succeed or the country will need a "french revolution". Otherwise, the deep state will continue and the selected folks will continue to thrive on the backs of the unpriveledged.

OMG you conflate Trump calling MS13 "animals", a term which I whole heartedly agree with as it applies to all gang members but particularly ms-14.

So, are you DENYING that the Trump Admin. just announced a strategy of separating children from their parents when they apply for asylum at the border??? Are you denying that I and MILLIONS of other viewers WITNESSED Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions ANNOUNCED that policy????

I don't what to say if you deny what I and millions of other Americans know to be an ABSOLUTE FACT. You take that any way you want, but, either you are ignorant or...

I am sorry that you and others have decided that Trump is DICTATOR but he is YOUR "dear leader" and not mine. I REFUSE to worship such a vile person.

Trump was elected President, NOT dictator. Trump is NOT above the law. Trump can NOT pardon him self. Anyone, ANYONE who believes otherwise no longer believes in the rule of law and the United States Constitution and one should consider the source when such people try to justify their beliefs that Trump is above the law.

Wow, another rant. At least you didn't call any of us traitors.

I wouldn't be so sure that a President can't pardon himself. There is nothing in the Constitution that prohibits it, but I doubt that Trump would try it as he would almost guarantee himself an article of impeachment.

PS: for anyone not familiar, it's online for "I Am Not A Lawyer"

[edit]

Now I'm seeing a lot of chatter on Legal Twitter saying for the answer to whether a POTUS can pardon himself, you just need to remove the "F" from "way".

It took me a few moments, but I figured that out.

It reminds me of an opposite situation when the government first created TSA following 9/11. The original proposal to name the agency was "Federal Air Transportation, Airline Security Service" until the figured out what the acronym would look like.

Hmm. How do you look at the Nixon pardon? It was the Vice President who became president pardoning him, but it's almost like he pardoned himself. Do you think Pence would pardon Trump? The Trump goes back to his gold throne, flips some people off, does a bunch of interviews insulting people again, maybe marries a new Eastern European wife if Melania leaves him, and maybe eventually dies. He sure is energetic for a 70 year old. I hope I have that much get up and go at his age. I really don't know many 70 year old men with that much energy.

There's no way he will get impeached and even if he was, he'd never be removed from office because we all know the Senate can't get that many votes for a lunch order let alone anything as serious as a removal of a duly elected president. The pitch forks would be many beating on their doors.

The House is somewhere between "likely D" and "tossup", so let's be honest- if the House flips, he's getting impeached. Dems (at least the ones getting the press) have made it obvious they don't need a reason.

Your point about being removed from office is solid, though- the Senate is not likely to flip last I heard, and even if it does, I think Senators take the act of removing a sitting POTUS more seriously than the rabble in the House and wouldn't do so unless the circumstances *clearly* warranted it.

Burrton,

I may be wrong on the house flipping but I doubt it. The Dems have to take 23 house seats away and I just don't see the demand for it. Republican primary voters were up more than the dems on super tuesday yesterday. There's shock waves going through the democrat party because the democrats who won yesterday are so far left that they are alienating even their own base. That's not to say the Republicans have a clear slate as there are "never Trumpers" out there still in the Republican party. I just don't think the American people will choose higher taxes as promised by Pelosi, Amnesty for Illegals as promised by the Dems especially without border enforcement or Chain migration restrictions, and single payer health care.

NOTE: California may have had their pendulum swing too far left in this one with their Sanctuary cities, high taxes and gas taxes and now water restriction proposals. I think California starts the swing back toward the middle starting with the mid terms this fall.

Bonus Question:

What are the democrat proposals on the table other than higher taxes, resistance, Pelosi for Speaker, Open borders and single payer health care?

Who is the leader of the Republican Party? Trump certainly isn't sitting well with a bunch of the usual Republican bunch.

Democrats as a whole are mixed. There is a group of socialists growing in power within that group. They are pushing socialism hard with a younger generation filled with lazy, entitled people electronically addicted to phones and computers that don't want to have to work hard. That voting bloc is growing in power and they are have and are being taught to despise the wealthy while using what the wealthy have provided. As history tends to work in cycles, these dumbasses may try some economic polices that will mess up the economy badly in the pursuit of this same as the Chinese and Russians did before their countries failed at socialism. You should see Seattle right now. The City Council voted unanimously to punish large businesses for employing people. This is how far left some places have gone and they don't care if they destroy the economic future of their area in pursuit of what they perceive as "social justice."

It's still way too early to call the midterms. 5 months is a lifetime in the world of politics.

And I think it's going to take something more than what's happened so far, such as firing Mueller or otherwise pulling the plug on the investigation, in order for an article of impeachment to get approved and forwarded to the Senate. But I agree with both of you about the prospects of a guilty verdict in any possible impeachment trial in the Senate. First off, the R's aren't defending nearly as many seats as the D's are, and there's some very vulnerable D's and some very solid R's up for re-election, so if the R's do lose the Senate, it will only be by a seat or two. Besides, 2/3's is a really high bar to clear no matter what the political make-up is.

I don't know, but you've got some legitimate people backing that opinion now (that weren't 6 months ago).

Don't underestimate either party's ability to waste an opportunity, though. Welcome to 2018.

This is precisely why Rs are optimistic again- Ds have taken up "WE'RE GOING TO ROLL BACK THOSE TAX REDUCTIONS" as their mantra, with Pelosi leading the charge.

It's a gift to Rs that Pelosi remains the Ds' voice.

Truth. I think Seattle is about to get what they voted for, Good and Hard™.

Makes my quarterly downtown stays a few hundred bucks more expensive, but it'll be a lesson they don't forget once they've quit blaming, as they inevitably do, everything, and everyone else, on the planet for it.

I know what you saying but with his candidates being backed and his agenda being adopted more and more on capitol hill, he is the leader of the party. Most of the "Never Trumpers" are not even running for office again. (Corker, Flake, Ryan, Gowdy, etc). Plus, Trump's endorsement of Cox for Gov of California is carrying a lot of weight especially since the intesity of the Republican turn out was so much larger than in 2014 with the dems being weaker. Now the Dems are going to have to spend a lot of money in Calif to defend the governorship that they planned on spending in the districts and for Feinsteins seat. Add in that Manchin in West Virginia is now saying he regrets backing Clinton and says he will back Trump if the policies are good for West Virginians... This is Trump's party now and some traditional Replublicans will leave over that but there's many more blue collar workers replacing them that traditionally were independent or even Dem.

Democrats as a whole are mixed. There is a group of socialists growing in power within that group. So again, no message other than resist, raise taxes, etc. Going to be hard for them to win on that platform.

DOJ arrested a top Senate Career Staffer for leaks yesterday and ceased a reporter's emails and cell phone for the past 3 years.

I know Sessions said there were multiple leak investigations going on (I forget the number but it was in the double digits). I'm thinking this is just the first of multiple arrests coming in the near future digging out the deep state of leakers. Time will tell.

Edited: I just had another thought on this. They arrested him on lying to investigators and not for the leaks which tell me that they are going to put the screws to him to roll over on another target higher up.
