I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'.

R.I.P. James Earl Jones. A true legendary actor. Voice like no other. Darth Vader, Thulsa Doom in Conan, Voice of narrator in Field of Dreams, Simba's Father in The Lion King, Eddie's Murphy's Father in Coming to America. Admiral Greer in the Jack Ryan universe movies. So many great roles.

RIP, and what an amazing talent has left us. I do feel his voice forever will be iconic, whether it be Darth Vader's voice, or "This is CNN", but with the recent advancements of AI it wouldn't surprise me to see his voice live on in future projects.

One of the most iconic voices ever with that deep, baritone sound that could send shivers up your spine, think Darth Vader, or one of solid credibility, This is CNN.

Oddly enough, that voice didn't come easy for him as he had a speech impediment that caused a horrific stutter and didn't speak for 8 years.

RIP.

R.I.P. Kris Kristofferson. Just watched Convoy the other day. One of favorite trucker movies. A low key American icon. Lived a very full, accomplished life. I even liked him in Heaven's Gate which in retrospect is an under-rated western. They don't make many people like Kris any more. Men that served in the military, educated, songwriter, actor, singer, athlete. Just a man that wanted to do it all and did a lot.

Sorry to hear about your loss, Sis.

Another person is Pete Rose. It's been said his record for hits might never be broken.
It's too bad all players don't play with the passion that Rose did.

R.I.P. John Amos. I liked him Good Times and Roots. Also liked him in Beastmaster in a lesser known role. A big man. Part of masculine Hollywood in the 70s going into the 80s.

Twin Peaks still the most creative TV series ever IMO. Might have to binge watch that out of respect! “The return” is also very well done, just confusing, of course.

Twin Peaks was great. I even enjoyed the movie. The Return to Twin Peaks was interesting. Blue Velvet was a great movie. I thought he did an amazing version of Dune if you watch the uncut version that I find more believable than the remake. What he did with Dune with pre-CGI special effects was great. Eraserhead was a wild movie. The Elephant Man was sad and well done. Wild at Heart with Nic Cage was one of Nic's better movies. Inland Empire had a crazy ending.

David Lynch films were interesting and strange. They kept you watching with all the weird characters he brought to life. His films were an experience. Memorable and pulled some unique performances from the actors he cast. He had a real knack for making small towns interesting.

Uecker was a riot. He was a backup catcher for the Braves, and when their GM told the owner that they got a new glove for Uecker, the owner replied "Wow, that was a great trade!" I loved his interviews on Johnny Carson. He was the Rodney Dangerfield of sports.

Uecker was also the play-by-play announcer for the Milwaukee Brewers for a long time, and did a cameo in the movie "Major League," next to "The Longest Yard," one of my favorite sports comedies.

Another sports personality of local interest who recently passed was Gus Williams, a prominent member of the World Champion Super Sonics.

Uecker was such a change from the usual broadcasters and when he was interviewed always entertaining. He did something like 100 appearances on the Johnny Carson show.

When I think of David Lynch I think of Blue Velvet starring Dennis Hopper and Isabella Rossellini. It was a Tarantino type film in spots before Tarantino was known.
If you haven't seen it, do so.

One of my ATF actors. He was a very versatile actor. "Undaunted Courage", about a Vietnam era rescue mission, was perhaps my favorite.

I heard. R.I.P. Gene Hackman. One of my favorite actors from the last era of masculine Hollywood where the men really lived life before becoming actors.

You didn't like Hoosiers, Riverdog? I loved that movie.

I hadn't watched Undaunted Courage, but I did watch his other post-Vietnam rescue movie Uncommon Valor. Fun movie. Young Patrick Swayze and a good, up and coming cast mixed with veteran actors. I'll have to look for Undaunted Courage.

The French Connection, Mississippi Burning, Unforgiven, The Quick and the Dead, The Package, The Conversation, Crimson Tide, Lex Luthor in the Christopher Reeves Superman movies, The Royal Tenenbaums, Hoosiers. So many great movies over the years.

I hope he wasn't murdered. The whole situation sounds very strange.

Yes, I loved Hoosiers! But I thought that Uncommon Valor (not Undaunted Courage, which was one of my favorite Stephen Ambrose books) was a better effort by Hackman.

An interesting character. The New York Dolls actually played at Meadowdale HS in the early 70's while I was going there. Didn't think that much of them at the time (seemed they spent more time in costume changes than playing music, had lots of technical glitches) but in retrospect it was cool to have seen such an influential band that early in their career.

He absolutely became Jim Morrison for his role in The Doors to the point that even Robby Krieger couldn't distinguish Val's voice from Jim's. And that wasn't even his best role! No one ever was or ever will be a better Doc Holliday to me!

RIP Val, one of my very favorites ever.
