Wow, what happened? It used to be pretty well frequented, I have a hard time believing that it was due to a lack of interest.

Not techy enough to diagnose it myself, I just wasn't able to get it to come up for a couple days and then when I started getting security warnings just deleted the link from my browser.

I was having problems too. I think the Cat just got tired of it since there were a few games where the game thread started real late.

It’s still alive as of today. .Net has been down since yesterday I think.

Yeah I'm back on the Blue, thanks (and actually they're going again, not still going, they were gone for a few day and Cat hat to start over).

Won't miss .net, that place is too busy, I don't need another Facebook ...

And Welcome to this board, the coziest of the bunch.

Yep. We all know and respect each other here. I'll occasionally post on .net, but like Cbob says, the place is too busy and I get the impression that my comments get lost in the crowd.

And Welcome to The Shack, Sports Hernia!

Thanks guys. No doubt it’s easy to get lost in the crowd over there.
It’s a different animal, here and over on the blue seem much more laidback and less dramatic.

Oh, things can get dramatic in the Shack, especially in the Off Topic forum.

One thing that differentiate our place from the others is our mods. They rarely post and generally stay out of our squabbles and don't choose sides. If a problem occurs, they address it not only with the offending member before taking action, they remind the rest of the community of the ground rules as well.

I hope you post often. As cozy as this place is, we can use some new blood.

That’s what I thought too. Facebook (which I’m not a member of) said they were backing up the system and it would be back up shortly, that was Tuesday or Wednesday. :(

Glad to know we have this place to talk Hawks. :)

Echo what Sports Hernia said, asked about it and it was told the platform went down and they are having to retrieve the back up and reassemble everything. There are going to be problems with the New owners being new and having to figure everything out.

Secondly and this may or may now have been the initial culprit, the real cause in the first place.

The Westin building downtown is a server location and on Wednesday had a situation happen, Orthopedics associates where I go for my wrists crashed also, they were down for over three hours and I had to reschedule my appointment. They could not access anything but having money have more IT guys and people restoring the system for them. What happened is a huge power outage and surge, it fried a lot of stuff, Orthopedic associates had some surge protection built on their stuff and were able to get it back up. The Generator back up at the Westin didn't work which caused an additional issue, the battery back ups typically are only good for like 4 to 8 hours depending on the Plant size, no Generator and the batteries drain and then nothing.

So with a power surge and no back up the .NET server and platform could have been double hit.

This is just speculation without confirmation but hard to beleve in multiple outtages in the same area are not related, especially of this type.

This is what I do, I maintain a Central Office and there are routines you do and tests you run weekly and monthly in the event of exactly that situation, the Westin has everyone in it, AT&T, Verizon, CenturyLink, and a lot of other smaller communications companies as well.

It's also hard to believe a modern, presumably well-configured server room could be taken out by a power surge.

Interesting stuff.

More likely a dos attack of the access lines to the facility.

There's others in here that have said recently that they're having the same problem with .net that you're having.

Well darn. I was waiting to hear back from Red Alice about watching the Seahawks beat the lambs with her squad tomorrow, since I'm TDY in San Diego until Christmas. I have my Seahawks t-shirt picked out and everything!

.Net may not have had a lot of protections in place because they are expensive, Communication companies thrive on them, kind of like the additional insurance you buy on everything, but in communications the routers, servers multiplexers and fiber switches can all be susceptible. If there was a severe outage and as I said the Generator failed then a surge may not have been protected in the equipment based on how it was configured and who did it and what company.

We will never know the facts becasue a company that has ouytagaes like this want's to blame anyone else but themselves, if they had a bad system it still is not their fault it is whomnever made the surge. There is a s*** load of construction downtown and all it would take is a back hoe digging in a place marked wrong or sinking a pilon in a place they thought was safe and hitting a conduit.

The funny thing is all of the big outages I heard about happened after the Trump Tweet?

Did Trump Break the Internet because Gore made it :P

.net is a lot more sophisticated than our little community, with lots of advertising and hundreds of active participants. I'll post there occasionally but they pissed me off a few months ago when they banned me for a couple of days for going off topic..I made a comment about Michael Bennett they apparently thought was political...with no warning or anything. Going off topic happens all the time in this forum and no one gets their briefs in a wad like the mods do over there.

I have several friends that post there regularly, so I hope they get it back up again. I know how I'd feel if the lights went out in here.
