Salary Cap Numbers moving Forward

Postby HumanCockroach » Sat May 24, 2014 12:54 pm

Was pleasantly surprised today to receive a tweet about the Seahawks current salary cap space. With three players left yet to sign from this draft class the Seahawks currently sit 10.39 Million under the salary cap. Which unless I'm mistaken ( and I certainly could be LOL, the cap is Greek to me) they can roll over a LARGE chunk of that cap into next years salary, and have plenty of money to sign Wilson ( with the cap likely to increase quite a bit, as well as the bump should they expand the playoffs) and pending players they may or may not sign ( like Avril or Okung etc). Plenty of money available next season. Could blow up in their faces still I suppose, but it seems like they really have this dialed in. ( I was sure Lynch would become a "ccausality" in the next season or two, but if he is still producing the numbers he has, I find that likely hood decreasing by the day as they move forward).

Not much going on, so why not look to the future I suppose.

This FO really has had a solid, intelligent plan in regards to how they approach that cap, the players they plan on keeping, and the way they go about doing it. It sucks losing guys you like as fans ( Red, Clemmons, Tate etc) but I for one feel the faith in that FO building from year to year.

Yeah but RW may not fleece us like RS, but he is going to want a good chunk a change. This attitude that IF I don't get paid more than anyone else at my position, or we don't love them is killing us. Okung is gone we are not going to be able to cover his demands next year.

Sherman didn't fleece us. And I guarantee Russ' contract will dwarf Sherm's.

I agree. Sherm's deal was good for both sides. It's always difficult to pay a guy at the high range of salary, but he has has two spectacular seasons as well. If he continues to play at that level, he continues to get paid at that level.

In my mind, Russell has already earned considerably more than he has been paid. I think he will have another fine year and will get a deal that not only reflects his future ability, but also his past contribution.

There's a lot of things I don't like about Sherman's attitude, but his position of being paid as if he were the best cornerback in the game isn't one of them. He IS the best cornerback in the game, and should get paid as such, so I don't agree with your characterization of us being "fleeced" by him.

Unless he can stay on the field, I really don't care what Okung's demands are, we'll be in the market for a LT anyway.

Fleecing, lol, Fleecing? Did you say fleecing? How the best at his position can end up with a 5yr/ 57 million dollar contract, is currently the second highest paid corner ( soon to be third, shortly followed by fourth) can be "fleecing" this team by accepting and signing a BELOW market value contract is beyond me. Does anyone really believe there wouldn't be 31 other teams lining up around the block to get "fleeced" like that?

Some posters crack me up. I said it at the time that within 2-3 years he would AGAIN be considered underpaid, it took a week. LMFAO. If Sherman had been interested in doing so, he wouldn't have resigned, any other belief is simply not close to accurate.

If there was any fleecing done in this arrangement it was done by the NFL\Seahawks Front Office who underpaid Sherman by $9 million (assuming the current market value for the NFL best cornerback is $10 Million) for each of the prior two seasons.

Ok Ok, it was a bad word, lets get past it. I just think paying 24 million for 2 guys at the back end will hurt us long term, but they make plays when they count so if you guys are alright with it so am I.
