After the way he was getting RW killed last year I'm certainly not going to be weeping. His main asset was that he was versatile but last year he was so bad. I don't really see any upside to having a guy who can play both Guard positions at a below average level and LT at a level that vaulted Robert Mathis into the Defensive Player of the Year discussion.

Yeah, no tears over him from me either. His versatility was nice to have, but, he's just not very talented.
I think we could do better starting rookie(s).

If I were to shed any tears, they wouldn't be over losing McQ. They'd be because our OL is in such a mess that he's better than any guard we currently have on our roster. The fact that a drifter like McQ was good enough to beat out a former #1 draft pick is enough to make a grown man cry.

How desperate was the team that signed him lol. Nope, not going to cry about "losing" McQ. I have to believe that the F/O has some definite ideas in mind for the O-Line because of the way they let Breno and Q go. I mean, they didn't even bat an eye or try and keep them.

If upgrading over Sweezy, McQ, and Breno is so easy, then how come the Hawks failed to upgrade the last 2 in the last few years and how come the first one was able to start?

Im not going to cry over losing him, but the combination of Schneider and Cable have failed to add anyone better than McQ since 2011.

It SHOULD be easy to upgrade, but so far Schneider and Cable have proven incompetent.

Good luck, Paul McQ, but I'm Glad you're gone.

Again, I get our past whiffs on OL in the 1st round, but I still think we manage to upgrade up front from where we were a year ago by kickoff this fall. And this year, it just wasn't going to come via the initial FA frenzy going on.

This forces our hand, and I think we'll be better off for it overall.

I agree 100%!
This is exactly the way I see it as well.
Clearly the front office has let these guys leave because, they suck. They suck, the front office knows they suck and are not worth re-signing, and they are planning on going out and getting BETTER players to replace them.

Seems so obvious to me. I cannot WAIT for the draft!!

BTW complete aside but, as a person from Fargo N.D., you guys should go do some research on Billy Turner, Offensive Tackle (will likely move to guard in the NFL IMO) from N.D.S.U.
You know how every year it seems the Seahawks find these guys who NO ONE had on their boards? Well, Billy Turner absolutely destroyed college football at the div1aa level for his whole career, and has all the makings of being a perennial pro-bowler at the next level, but no one is talking about him. (Well almost no one, I've found a few places where they have him ranked ahead of Joel Bitonio...which could just mean they haven't done their research on Bitonio, who I also believe is a LOCK to be a stud at the next level).
Anyway, if you guys want to have some fun watching an under-the-radar, "Seahawks type" of offensive lineman just completely DOMINATE, go watch him. You won't be surprised on draft day then, when Seattle calls his name in round two or sooner, and all the media has a hissy fit saying they've lost their minds again.

I'll miss him. While he struggled when he had to cover LT while Okung was out, he was a tough LG who brought his lunch-pale to work. I would have liked to have kept him a part of our O-Line - another guy to compete to start at LG, and at the worst a quality back-up. If there is one unsung hero on the 2013 squad, Paul McQuistan may very well be that guy. I wish him the best.

GO SEAHAWKS!!! WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!

Really? It was never the intention for McQ to start, he was the backup all along, but Carp and Moffitt under performed so insert McQ, who also happened to be the back up at tackle, which clearly was a mistake. Who said they are really looking for an upgrade over Sweezy? It seems like they are still high on him. IMO his weaknesses were impossible to hide with the other injuries on the O-line, making it hard to help him. There were games when he was the only 'starter' actually playing and he was a D-Tackle 2 years ago. Breno's issue was with salary and a lack of depth. Simply, IMO, the Hawks feel like they already have low cost options at that position, where they didn't last year. Combine that with his cap hit if released and there you go. It isn't always as easy as just finding a replacement, but when you feel like you have a low cost improvement on your roster letting them go is a no-brainer.

Not sure if the injuries had something to do with it, or continuity on the line, but of the 4 guards Seattle started last year on the line ( Sweezy, Carpenter, Bowie, and McQuistan) it was McQuistan that had the lowest grade of the bunch. I was fine with him as a backup, just not at 3.5 million he was earning. Obviously the rest of the league agreed as he earned more last year than he got for 2 years in Cleveland.

Agree, Simian.

I mentioned him in a Giacomini thread last week.

Billy Turner is a McNasty and might work at RT or RG.

But, he's not being overlooked.

Tagged as a late second or third rounder.

He fits, especially if Hawks go WR or TE in first round.

Is he really that well known?
Bummer LOL! Here I thought that maybe I was letting you all in on some local (for me) secret, that the Seahawks will no doubt be well aware of, and who neatly fits into that Seahawks type of lineman.
IMO, after watching him play the last three years (back to back to back 1aa championships!) I'm convinced that Cable would LOVE him.
So would Pete.
