Week 1

Postby RiverDog » Sun Sep 10, 2023 1:08 pm

I've been watching Red Zone on my big screen and alternating between two games on my tablet. The two games on my tablet are Niners-Steelers and Bengals-Browns, both blowouts.

Niners looked solid, beating a good Steelers team on the road. McCaffery and Brandon Ayuk had big games, Purdy looked solid, and the defense has held the Steelers to 7 points in the first 57 minutes. Anyone that was hoping that we'd win the division by default, in other words, that all 3 of our opponents would collapse, needs to reset their thinking.

One of the biggest upsets has to be the Browns and Bengals. The Bengals just threw in the towel, benching Joe Burrow and a few other starters as they're trailing by 3 TD's with about 4 minutes left.

Cards are going down, behind by 4 with 1:10 left and they just got the ball.

I'm really liking my Fubo TV app.

30-7. McCaffery had 152 yards on 22 carries including a 65 yard TD run. Steelers had just 41 yards rushing. Niners sacked Pickett 5 times, none of which came from Nick Bosa, who ended his holdout last Thursday and whose snaps were limited. It was a rout. They gotta be considered one of the favorites to go to the SB.

Rams had success early. Seattle is starting to lockdown. I hope they keep doing so in the second half.

This defense is still soft. No pressure on Stafford at all.

Yeah, and missing that FG might come back to haunt us. This one looks to go down to the wire.

Cross is out with a toe injury. Reminds me of Russell Okung.

He’ll need to get beat up a lot more to match Okung. Hopefully this isn’t a trend.

Injuries aside, this is embarrassing. At home and they are letting a 5th round rookie wr chew them up, pass rush can’t get home, and Stafford is allowed to scamper for an easy 9 yards

Yep. Pretty sad showing for a home opener versus a division rival.

Green Bay once again transitions to next Pro Bowl QB.

11 point deficit with less than 10 minutes left in the game. We'll see what Geno is made out of. Wasn't one of the criticisms of him was that he couldn't perform in the 4th quarter with the game on the line?

He’s not a guy that brings you back from the brink. Not that the defense is helping, but when that’s the case you have to keep pace with scoring. The Rams are having no trouble giving Stafford 3-4 seconds to throw and getting guys open in the middle of the field. We aren’t doing anything close to that

This is the most disappointing opening game I’ve seen in years. Could be a season and regime-defining loss. Especially bad if tackles are out. Geno looked horrible. And defense - what the hell?!

This defense is beat. Offense couldn’t make anything happen when they needed to. 1 first down this half.

We been doing this chicken and egg argument for quite a few years now. Is it a bad defense or a bad offense? Seems to be both at this point.

Take Metcalf out. He can’t be mature when they need him. Set them back 15 yards and killed what slim chance remained.

That was one of the worst Seahawk 2nd half offensive performances that I've seen, and I've been watching since the get-go.

Exactly my sentiment. Now he's on the sideline smiling and laughing like he's on the winning team. He hasn't learned any poise as a pro in what, his fourth year now?

Discipline has never been Pete's strong point. Remember, he's the "ra, ra" upbeat, positive motivator of the modern athlete.

Abysmal doesn’t do it justice. The topping it off with the poor sportsmanship just knocks the bottom out.

A bad showing for sure, but it’s only 1 game and I don’t think a team can be evaluated until about week 4.
As it stands, it looks like we’ll be 0-2 if the Lions play as well as last week.

turns out my not being able to watch thanks to Xfinity was a blessing. I did listen to some and what I heard when the Rams had the ball was "blown coverage" or missed assignments which told me the D wasn't very ready to play today. Pete why the hell didn't you play the starters more during the preseason. Over and out. NO one picked the Rams today, yet they ALWAYS play us tough, and as pointed out another home loss to a soft team. UGH!!!!

Yeah, and I didn't like the attitude I saw on the sidelines in that 4th quarter. They mailed it in. Metcalf might end up getting a suspension for his PF. It's not like he hasn't had this problem before.

It's obviously very early, but I got the sense that Pete doesn't have control over this team.

Some say that's the same thing that led to his parting with USC.

If Metcalf is going to behave like a spoiled child, discipline him like one. Don't just doc his check a few thousand bucks. Sit him on the pines. First offense, sit one quarter. Second offence, sit a whole game, etc. Make it concrete for him to understand his behavior is costing the team.

Your comments brought back some 60 year old memories. When I was in Little League baseball, if you threw your bat or glove in rage and if your coach didn't pull you from the game, the league president would.

I fully expect the league to issue a suspension and fine and will be disappointed if they don't. If they fail to, then Pete needs to sit Metcalf for at least a game.

And yeah, I heard the same thing about Pete at USC, and it's been a topic of discussion in this forum since he's been here as he consistently puts out some of the most heavily penalized teams, a stark change from Mike Holmgren's style. It's one of the downsides of Pete's managerial style and is arguably one of the reasons why the LOB broke up like it did.

At least they cared. Some of the others didn't seem to, including the coaches.
I don't expect Pete to go unless he pulls the trigger and it seems Jody is content to keep the same regime in place until the team is sold.

It's obviously premature to be talking about Pete's future, but I don't disagree with you, either. I'm biting my tongue until we're eliminated from or out of the playoffs.

Boy, great game on MNF last night! I got really tired and went to bed early, didn't watch the end but just got through replaying it. Josh Allen had the worst game I've seen him play, 3 int's and a fumble. That's been his big bugaboo since coming into the league.

Aaron Rodgers lasted all of 4 snaps before leaving with an ankle injury. Jets defense looked stout. There could have been a changing of the guard in the AFC East. What used to be the worst division in football is looking like one of the best.

The Jets fans are really jacked as they've been starved for a winner for a couple of decades. We'll see something similar from the fans in Detroit this Sunday.

I had a feeling that would be a pretty wild game, how could it not be??? But for Rogers to be carted off after 4 snaps, I did not think that would happen so fast, but still what a game!!

Yeah, except for the egg we laid, it was a pretty good start to the season IMO. The SNF game was a blow-out, but the Chiefs-Lions on TNF and last night's games were great and most of the other Sunday games were fun to watch.

The x-rays on Rodgers' ankle were negative, but the fear is that he's damaged his Achilles tendon. He's scheduled for an MRI today, but it could be a career ender for him.

An interesting note from last year was Josh Allen lead the league in turnover worthy plays last year where the ball was dropped (Geno was 2nd). Maybe the stats gods are going to even things up a little for Allen.
One of his issues has been too much faith in his arm talent and it came back to bite him last night.
