Pete, Geno, and the Raiders

Things aren't going too well for our former quarterback and head coach down in Sin City. I didn't see much of yesterday's game, but one look at the stat sheet is all it takes to see just how ugly their game vs. the Chiefs must have been yesterday.

Just a preface. The Raiders won on the previous weekend in beating the now 1-6 Tennessee Titans, breaking a 4-game losing streak, somewhat quelling fans calls for Pete and Geno's heads as it's an understatement to say that Raiders Nation has been disappointed with their progress. But yesterday the ship hit rock bottom as the Chiefs shut them out 31-0, dropping them to 2-5 on the still young season.

The Raiders offense, at least statistically, had to have turned in one of the worst performances of any NFL offense in at least several years. In addition to being shut out, the third time this season that the Raiders have scored fewer than 10 points, 6 or fewer points in two of their last three games, the Raiders had just 3 first downs, ran just 30 plays, only the 2nd NFL team since 1950 to run that few plays, gaining a whopping 95 total yards, and were 0-8 on 3rd/4th down. Their deepest drive ended at the Chiefs' 46-yard line. Their place kicker made one trip onto the field, that coming on the opening kickoff.

Geno's numbers were 10-16 for 67 yards with 0 TD's (no duh!) and 0 INTs. His QBR was 7.9, the lowest I've ever seen for any quarterback. passer rating 71.6. He was benched midway through the 4th quarter and replaced by Kenny Pickett, who didn't fare much better.

Although the Raiders have always been one of my least favorite teams going back to the mid 60's, I'm certainly not wishing either of those guy's ill fortune, especially Pete, of whom I'll always be grateful to for bring us the best period of Seahawk football in franchise history. But Holy cow, I'd sure hate to be in either of those guys' shoes right now. Any bets on how long Pete lasts? Next week is a bye week for the Raiders, so they'll have that bad taste in their mouths for at least two weeks. Does Pete bench Geno? If he were inclined to do so, it would be the best time for him to pull the trigger as it will give Pickett two weeks practice with the first team offense before facing their next opponent.

If Pete were younger, I'd be looking forward to the next draft as a Raider. Geno was only ever going to be a bridge QB. Seattle fans understood that, most of the sensible ones. He was never going to be a competitive Super Bowl QB.

The Raiders are a bad team. They weren't going to be rebuilt in a year. I imagine if they think Pete is too old to do the job, then he may be gone. Maybe the Raiders can draft their next QB with that high draft pick.

It will be interesting to see if they let Pete stick around and see what he can do with the high draft pick. I can see his age playing a factor in letting a new coach pick a QB and then develop them that isn't at the age when they should be taking cruises and relaxed on the back porch.

Chip Kelly has had in the past creative Offenses in both College and the NFL. It makes me wonder if Pete put his finger on the Offense and turned it into what we had here in Seattle that was so out of date with today's reality.
In I think it was 2019 we started the year off with a bunch of wins because of Shottenheimers Offense and with a terrible Defense on pace for a record of futility. Pete then said this was football he didn't understand and scaled back the Offense. So I wonder if something akin to that has happened in LV. For reference, our Offense the beginning of that year looked similar to the Dallas Offense of today.
