I know it has been discussed, but for now it is not going away that we might do something outrageous, or at least startling. Who might we trade that will bring us such a draft pick? Sherman? Not likely to get that much coming off a serious injury at his age. Bennett, no, and he is more valuable to us, anyway. Jimmy? Might be just the ticket, but I am not the sharpest on the rules (speed limit? Officer? Who could have known?) He is coveted by some, reportedly by the Niners, so that could be a possibility. Earl Thomas. He still has value, and I fully expect that he will be playing at a high level for a few more years. His play and role for the team has been and can still be very good, but with the needs the team has, and the investments that have been made in the backfield (4 draft picks last draft) plus the a good fa signing as well, the position is not a position of need relative to other areas of the team. I've heard the position that we could do some kind of sign and trade with Sheldon R, but it is too close to calculus for me even to approach it.
My guess, is that we are going to trade Earl. It grieves me, and all my friends have turned away, but it just seems the most likely. We could get a 1st for Russell, but that is not going to happen. It is probably in stone that we will not part with Wags for any reason. And, in my mind, K J Wright is Wagner in another position.
Change can be painful, but attachment to players is complicating. Ask Bill Bellichek.
