Well this Sucks! KJ Having Knee Surgery

Postby idhawkman » Wed Aug 29, 2018 8:37 am

On the Seahawks main site, they put out the injury report and said that KJ is having his knee scoped. Not sure what's wrong, something just feels a little off he said. In the meantime, Shaqueem Griffin is the backup weakside linebacker.

Agree. I hope they don't find much on KJ and he is back in the lineup soon but just in case, Go Shaqueem! Show us that we are deep at that position.

Scopes can be relatively minor like a couple of weeks away from the field or much longer if they find something serious and have to replace it.
I hope it's just trimming some loose cartilage and they're out quickly and he's back on the field for the first or maybe 2nd game.

Heard about this surgery too many times with this "scopes don't take long to recover from" mantra, yet the person having the surgery usually keeps on degrading. When your knees are done, your career usually follows. Sad to see KJ reach that point, but even more than concussions the knees end football careers.

Their saying he will be out for only 3 weeks but I think more like 2 months.

Not good. He played huge his last preseason game. I love shaqueem but hes no KJ and his handicap will be a factor tackling on the edge in the highest level of the sport. I wish him well for himself, the team and we the fans and hope to be proven wrong but this sucks to start the season.

There's a silver lining in every cloud. If we're to have injuries, this is the season to have them as we're not expected to compete and we have a lot of newbies that we're going to be depending on in the next year or two that are going to need an opportunity like this to rise to the occasion.

I haven't watched very much preseason football this year, but has anyone in here seen any evidence of 'queem's handicap being a major factor in his tackling? I understand that there's bound to be a situation or two throughout an entire 16 game season where there might be a situation where he couldn't wrap up a ball carrier or receiver due to his handicap, but I haven't seen one yet.

The silver lining I see is that Shaqueem has a little more speed than KJ. He'll need it to make up for the experience drop.

Shaqueem played great. he lead the team in preseason tackles despite not starting with the first team. He might be just fine.

I haven't seen Shaquem have any issues tackling. He wraps up as well (and maybe better) than many players in the league.

Hes a player. Its hard to get past the visual of a stump and see how he can do what he does but I agree he's flying all over the field and has excellent instincts. I saw him as a situational rusher coming into the league but it appears he can do a lot more. He better because he will have some big shoes to fill.

What's the weakness of Shaqueem? Is it just lack of experience?

Pretty much. That and the fact that he one handed ...

But, Shaqueem is a quick-learner. We have never had speed like Shaqueem in a LB.

Bobby is 4.4, Shaqueem is 4.3. In short area, that will make a difference.

I love Shaqueem and his story and think he is an exciting special teammer but the drop off between him and K.J. is substantial. He is fast but his 4.3 forty has been disputed and was probably more like a 4.6 or 4.7, meaning his speed isn’t super rare but he is still fast. I still question how well he will be able to get off of blocks consistently at the pro level. IMO he is a below average replacement for KJ... with some experience he could be a good backup and special teamer, but I would imagine he will be a target of opposing offenses until K.J. returns

Shaqueem can cover better than KJ. We haven't blitzed with Shaqueem.
