Glad we kept Puna Ford, sorry to see Stringfellow go. No surprise really that we kept him but I was happy to see Mingo on the roster.

I hope we can keep Reynolds on the PS in case Baldwin has further problems. He showed some compatibility with Russ when they were on the field together.

Hopefully Stringfellow makes it to the PS. Great speed, good size....

I'm glad we kept Calistro and McKissic -- but surprised we only have 5 receivers since they seem to get beat up and miss a lot of games. I also would of liked to keep WR Reynolds. Great story behind him at the US Naval Academy.
Just saw that Desean Shead was released. I sure liked him better than Maxwell - and I wouldn't mind seeing us resign him. That B-backfield will need all the help we can get.

CBob, why do we Ifedi around, is it really worth it to keep a penalty machine on our roster?

Ifedi's problems are all from the neck up, if he can get a handle on his penalties he has the talent to be a pro bowl quality RT. He's huge and powerful and a road grader in the run game already. I guess they see him as still too much upside if he ever gets his head together to give up on yet.

Obviously that's one factor. Another is that the mere fact that he was a first round draft pick gives him value. Teams are more likely to trade for a former first round draft pick than some other random player with equal potential. Additionally, GM's and HC's do have egos, and they are reluctant to admit to themselves and others that they made a mistake.

At this point, our talent level on the OL is still very thin, so even if Ifedi loses his starting job, he still gives us some depth and experience. He can play either guard or tackle.

It seems to me that players who get a lot of penalties often get called for infractions that others wouldn't.
If he can keep it clean for a while, that influence might disappear. He didn't have a lot of penalties in pre-season, and a full off season and year with Solari's simpler scheme might make a big difference with him.
Like Bob said, he has all the physical tools a team looks for in a road grader type of RT, but just getting settled and confident is a big factor.

Of Ifedi's league leading 16 penalties, 9 of them were for false starts, which can hardly be attributed to an officiating bias. Take out his false start penalties and his other infractions aren't all that outrageous. For example, Ifedi was flagged for holding 5 times, and there were 12 other linemen that had at least 5 holding penalties.

So what Cbob is saying is exactly right IMO. Most of Ifedi's problems are from the neck up.

Ifedi is a 1st rounder. if he were a 3rd rounder or lower, he would be gone.

Thanks, Bob. Feels like a 9 or 10 win season. Lack of pass rush and a relatively weak Secondary bother me a little.

Offense might be better than defense this year. At least we can run the ball with who we have and, hopefully, cut down a little on those ineffective bubble-screens.

Has Bev got a job, or is he still unemployed?

He has the SB pedigree.

Thanks, Sista & Obi. Can't predict how you would feel until you go through it. It's tough. But that's life.

Thanks for your support. There's a kinship in this forum that you can't replace.

From the good to the bad:

I like the top-to-bottom quality at QB, RB, WR, C, OG, LB and DT. I think Dickson and the new special teams units will win us a game by dominating field position.

I'm okay with starters at LT and DE, but the depth doesn't inspire confidence.

In the secondary, I like McD, Griffin, and Coleman. The other 7 scare the bejesus out of me.

Ifedi gives me nightmares. Like, cold sweat nightmares. The fact that the depth is worse than Ifedi is...[shudders]

(And good to see you hox! I've never posted much, but I've certainly enjoyed your posts going back to the 20th century at the PI forum!)

Welcome back hox. Sorry to hear about your loss. My mother dealt with that and she's still grieving. Tough times to lose someone that close.

Glad to see you back posting. Always enjoyed reading your opinion.

It's back to that point where we see if Pete and John can build a defense even 3/4s as good as they did when they got here. LoB is gone. We still have a franchise QB in his prime to build around. I expect a year or two of solid drafting and team management before we're real contenders again. If Pete and John can't improve their recent drafting, not sure they'll be able to do it. They're missing a little too much on offense with the O-line at this point. I hope having Solari and maybe some improved scouting improves O-line talent acquisition. Next year's draft class will be the first one where we don't see Cable's influence on the choices. I hope that improves the choices. Cable wasn't very good at picking or developing O-line.

This year will be a "see who is hungry and can stay healthy" year. The new players have prove they hang in the NFL and the old players have to continue to show they can.

You have my condolences, my friend. It's tough losing our parents.

Glad to see you posting. Perhaps you can join our pick'em and survivor leagues, too!

Thanks, River. I will try to find time to at least read, if not say a few words from time to time.

Where is Irish? What about two dogs? Do they still pop in occasionally?

Irish Greg is alive and well. He'll poke his head in here once in a blue moon but spends most of his online time over at .net (he's Flying Greg over there). The two of us are going to meet up in London for the Hawks-Raiders game. Not sure about two dogs.

I hope you come in here often. This forum is less trafficed than others, but one of the things I like about it is that your posts always get a response from at least one poster as they don't get buried by a bunch of others.

McKissic placed on IR yesterday.....they signed linebacker Jermaine Grace from the Browns cuts to replace that spot on the roster.

For McKissic, he is not allowed to play now for at least 8 weeks, but he is eligible to return later in the year.
