OT HOW BOUT THOSE ACH WARRIORS!!!

Postby Hawktawk » Sun Nov 18, 2018 10:51 am

Yesterday on Lyons field in Moses Lake Almira Coulee Hartline 8 man football team hung up a HUNDRED BURGER on Joyce. They actually spotted Joyce an 8-0 lead and the game was tied at 8 near the end of the first quarter then all hell broke loose on the way to a 100-18 final, an obvious school record. ACH was playing second and third string by halftime but between the offense and a few defensive TDs it was a snowball rolling downhill.

Growing up in Coulee City I was part of the 1974 CC Rams state champs in B-11 with their fabled "Nightstalker" defense that surrendered 18 points in the regular SEASON. 44 years ago that team beat the #1 ranked Colton Wildcats in a blowout on the very same field on our way to a title. Good to see the dominance continue.Really brings back some great memories to this old guy :D :D :D

Man a HS team scoring 100 isn’t something I like to see- even in 8-man, hopefully they were doing everything they could to not score. Congrats on winning a State Title. I made it to the championship game as a player and lost. I am a coach now and I’ve never made it to the big game (although it is only my second season and I still have a shot this year).

8 man football used to be crazy to watch, but I've never heard of 100 points being scored. However, I did know a guy that had 300+ yards rushing in one game in 8 man. I've always felt that they should go to 3 downs in 8 man football.

As a side note, I'm not sure if you guys saw the same special report I did, but one of the networks did a feature story on the Cowboy's #1 draft choice out of Boise State Leighton Vander Esch, who played his high school football at Riggins, ID, that plays 8 man football. Pretty cool story.

I was very upset when he declared for the draft a year early. Loved watching that kid play on Saturdays. My sister used to work in Riggins and if you've never been to Riggins I'd highly recommend going someday. They have jet boat tours for 3, 4 or 7 day packages from the outfitters there. The 7 day package is where you jet boat up the deepest gorge on the N.A. continent (even deeper than the Grand Canyon), then raft down the river for 5 days. The last 2 days you take a horseback ride back up out of the canyon to Riggins.

Their rodeo around the first of May every year is pretty fun too. You sit on the side of a hill and watch the rodeo and then you can ride your cooler down the hill after it is over. Pretty funny watching some of the drunks riding their coolers.

I've been to Riggins as I did a lot of white water rafting in my younger days. We camped out and rafted the Salmon River a few miles upstream from Riggins. I've also rafted the lower Salmon, from Hammermill Creek down to Heller's Bar near Asotin on the Snake, and I've rafted Hells Canyon on a number of occasions, from the dam downstream to either Johnson Bar or Pittsburg Landing, and we've done jet boat rides up the big rapids at Wild Sheep and Granite Creek. Pretty cool area, impressive canyons, as much isolation from civilization that you'll find in the lower 48 (195 miles one way to shuttle cars from Hells Canyon Dam to our take-out point at Pittsburgh Landing).

I did some rafting out of Riggins years ago. Beautiful country. And yes that Vander esch kid is amazing. As for the ACH 100 point thumping they were actually kind of embarrassed. They had their second and third team out there but it was a snowball running downhill apparently. They made it plain that they were not out to embarrass anyone but with the abolishment of the mercy rule where officials stop a game they felt like they had to keep playing. Its a loaded school in terms of talent and they've got a lot of hardware, although our 74 team was the first of numerous titles. As an alumnus I gotta say I liked it. It means nothing unless they go all the way though.

Well good luck! I've only coached Grid kids and that was plenty of work. I wasnt too good at it either. My 5th grade team we could run on anyone and play filthy D and i insisted on running the WCO with 5th graders to the tune of 1-7

Thanks, we’ve got a tough one this Saturday but we’ll give em our best shot! Nice job on coaching the little guys, youth coaches are really important (even if you end up 1-7). The West Coast offense is tough, but I’m sure Coach Holmgren would be proud!
