Sherm's return

Postby Agent 86 » Thu Nov 29, 2018 5:54 pm

So RS25 returns to Seattle this weekend, and saw the following article today as a reporter asked about his relationship with RW3.

Not surprising really that these 2 don't stay in touch. I know it's talked about alot, we all know the story of the apparent "rift" between some players concerning Wilson. And from what I have read, that might be directly related to how Pete treated Wilson, not so much Wilson's fault of any kind. But Sherm, from what I know of him, does not seem like the type to sugarcoat anything, and I think he was probably hard on Wilson throughout his time here. I think they were 2 teammates who respected each other tremendously and played together during a Super Bowl season, so you will always have a bond there no matter how you felt.

In the grand scheme of things, getting rid of Sherman (and Bennett) appears to be what was needed for the team to move forward, specifically for Pete to coach to his most effectiveness. I think we all hoped his coaching style and messages would get through again to younger, hungrier, less proven talent looking to get 2nd contracts, and I would say so far it has worked out.

I hope the team does a video tribute of some sort for Sherm and let's the 12's show their appreciation. He was one of my favourite players, regardless of how he acted sometimes, I will take a player on my team who will do or say anything to win, so long as it doesn't cross the proverbial line which I don't think Sherm ever did to an opponent. He probably went over the line moreso with his coaches the last couple years, you just know that play in 49 is something he never got over. Sherm fit this defense perfectly and is/was an incredible talent on the field with his smarts and skill.

Sherm strikes me as a guy who probably rolled his eyes alot and shook his head at what Wilson is as a person off the field and the attention he gets for it. I know that probably rubbed some teammates the wrong way and I get that, and I think that is probably why they really don't stay in touch. Two different people.

If the team did something to honor the entire LOB, I'm down with it. "They" deserve it. But, I'll wait for the 20 years and then maybe cheer for Sherman in the Ring of Honor. I lost all respect for him constantly publically ragging both on the field during games and off it with interviews and his writings on web blogs, basically chiding on Russell, the coaches, John Schneider and the team in general.

Not a teammate I'd want, no matter how good he is. Glad he's gone along with the others who feel it's too 'below' them to work with the kids, even they all went through the exact same process and remarkable as it is, can look at a lot of their success and that ring on their finger due to the very same process they blew off at the end.

Millions of $$$ for nothing...

I take zero issue with players wanting to win, or employees wanting to be held to the same standards as others....

Is interesting that Bennett and Sherman were brought up, in same paragraph as Wilson though, as they stood on opposite sides of that particular issue ( Sherman for accountability, Bennett against)...

No matter how people try to spin it, the loss of Bennett, Sherman and Thomas probably removes 3 possibly 4 wins from Seattle's record this season, and 9-2 or 10-1 in my book is worth a little on or off field heat compared to 6-5 and none...

I'm into winning though, not love affairs with players, or team harmony.

Who knew that Sherman could come back as well as he has.
They had a big salary of a player who might not play, and were up against the Cap even before talking about him possibly tuning out the coaches.
It's the sometimes sad business side of pro sports and the NFL in particular.

I agree, but as I said then, betting against Sherman has always been a losing proposition. I don't begrudge Seattle their move, just like I don't begrudge Sherman or Doug's feelings on the matter. Part of the business, I hope Sherman doesn't make us pay for it though, and I wouldn't be shocked if he does for several more seasons.

On the other hand,

We got rid of a cancer on the sidelines and in the locker room, whose 'relationship' (or lack of it) with Russell was negatively affecting the team.

Something changed in Sherman. He was always mouthy to opponents and very loquacious to the media but at some point he just got angry and petty and his chub for wilson is just hard to understand. It seemed they got along better the first couple of years. For all the praise heaped upon the LOB for the 8 points surrendered in SB 48 that d was helped by a flawless performance by Wilson with zero mistakes and an offense so efficient they didn't punt until late in the third quarter despite lynch being held to 38 yards.

He got a ring, something most players, even great ones never sniff and as bad as the "play" in 49 was the defense gave up a 10 point 4th quarter lead or it would never have come to it.

He's just an angry bitter dude . I'm with RD, Ill be there and Ill cheer when his name is mentioned. Whatever has happened since, he made the biggest play defensively this franchise has ever seen and gave us years of stellar play. But I'm glad hes gone along with Bennett who followed the same career trajectory personality wise from a funny dude to an angry malcontent. If the Hawks can make the tournament while they sit on the couch watching all the better

Bennett lost it when he accused the LV police of treating him wrong at the MGM. Once the multiple camera angles played and we saw him running away and hiding like a coward and then publicly complaining... "why oh why would the po-lice want to stop and hold me", his career as a activist was over.

He is a good family man, with a nice Hawaiian wife and takes care of all the local kids when he comes home in the summer, but damn, don't lie about it. Vegas has more security in each hotel than the White House.

Agreed. Videos also showed him shaking hands with the cops that supposedly mistreated him.

That's where I got off his bandwagon, too. The guy is a race baiting whiner, making up chit in an attempt to play the victim and stir up emotions. Except for his role in contributing to the best period of Seahawk football we've known, I have zero respect for the man.

Thanks cockroach. Hey I hope we cut
a real huge load of salary cap lol. Sherman has a chance to be the greatest at his position , CB then any other CB . Depending upon the number of years he plays, and the pd's , int' s, tackles, sacks, ff, assists and anything else you want to list he accumulates. I Will wish him all the best and I too hope we can have a show this Sunday with him in it for the fans.

That being said I hope we beat their ads Sunday. I Am probably going to going to the Minnesota Vikings game with a friend. Yeah rock and roll !!!!
